24.01.2022 Congratulations to all of the Faculty of Health graduates!

22.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day. Here's to diverse women and all that we do and bring and are. Today we stand with diverse women all over the world, as they wit...hdraw their consent and participation from systems that do not recognise their immense worth. We also acknowledge that for some people, because of employment, personal or political circumstances, it is not possible or safe to strike. We also stand with and for them. At IWDA, the doors will remain open as we continue our work for women’s rights. We believe International Women’s Day is a day when more people are listening to diverse women’s voices and we see this as an opportunity, from our privileged position in the movement, to continue our own work and support the work of others. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2017 #daywithoutawoman #womensstrike #womensmarch #womensmarchmelbourne

13.01.2022 Researchers from FedUni have been awarded a Victorian Government grant to research medical emergency management and the use of defibrillators in sporting environments. Sudden cardiac arrest can occur in people of all ages and it is a leading cause of sport-related fatalities. A rapid emergency response, with automated external defibrillators and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is currently the best way to save lives. See more at: http://ow.ly/JKZC308hRrj

13.01.2022 Meet Sally Bromley. Sally represents both FedUni’s School of Health Sciences and Psychology, Faculty of Health, and The Australian Institute of Sport as one of... our Women in Science. Sally has a background in strength and conditioning, both as a combat sports athlete and a coach, and her industry links with the AIS allow her to work with Australia’s Olympic athletes involved in judo, boxing and taekwondo athletes. When the opportunity to combine her sporting passion with scientific rigour through an industry-sponsored PhD scholarship came up, she jumped at it. Her PhD research project is ‘Helping Olympic combat sports athletes to perform at their best. Safely’, of course! The popularity of combat sport in general is on the rise. I am interested in tracking injury and illness in Olympic combat sports athletes, so that prevention programs can be developed which will have far-reaching impact on these athletes and their ability to successfully compete in their chosen sports. My work is setting a foundation for sports medicine and sports science practitioners and researchers alike, so that they will be able to collect high-quality data about injury and illness trends across combat sports. My work will produce best-practice data collection approaches that are prospective in nature and use tools which capture the most relevant information about health and safety issues. In doing this, injury and illness trends can be uncovered across the sports.
