25.01.2022 Being CEO can be a bit of a juggling act sometimes. At this point every year when we are on the cusp of announcing the grant winners, Kath doesn’t get time to stop, have a coffee, a chat or reflect on the latest news at Feed Appeal. So hang tight our next couple of editions of Coffee with Kath will be spectacular as she reflects on the impact of the 2019 grants and proudly announces the 2020 Grants!

24.01.2022 One of our grant recipients from 2019, ASRC are doing some amazing work in the community to help support those families who are feeling the affects from COVID- 19. 24.01.2022 FEED APPEAL IN ACTION It’s been a tough week in Victoria with the state in a snap lockdown, but charities like this one kept their doors open - in a COVIDSafe way - to ensure no Melburnian would go without. Come rain, shine or global pandemic, Combined Churches Caring Melton has served its community with tireless dedication - but it relies heavily on donations to survive. Manager Denise Morris said a Feed Appeal 2020 grant of just over $10,000 will allow the charity to re...place vital, but old equipment before it becomes an expensive problem. We need to be as frugal as possible and new equipment is sometimes out of reach. We make do with substandard equipment until we have the means to replace them - which usually means when they break down, she said. Half of the grant will enable the charity to buy an energy efficient freezer - to replace the old one and help keep power costs to a minimum - while the other half ensures it will be able to buy culturally appropriate food for its diverse community. The PFD credits are like gold to us, especially in the task of supporting culturally and linguistically diverse groups with their dietary needs, Ms Morris said. #feedappeal2021 #feedingthecommunity #supportingthecommunity #feedafamily #feedappeal #feedappealinaction #feedvictoria #feedmelbourne #melbourne #victoria #melton #combinedchurchescaringmelton #lockdownheroes #community #nourishingcommunities #charity #dogood #foodrelief #makingadifference #foodrescue FareShare Paul Newman's Own News Corp Squeaky Gate Olive Oil Woolworths

23.01.2022 FEED APPEAL IN ACTION This Queensland charity saw such a sharp rise in demand they’ve had to borrow fridges to store food. At times ADRA Pine Rivers had to refuse much-needed fresh food donations, simply because they couldn’t store them. That’s all going to change thanks to a $14,700 Feed Appeal grant, which will enable the Dakabin charity to - finally - buy a new cool room.... Over the past two years I have seen ADRA Pine Rivers grow in strength, despite limited resources, ADRA South Queensland regional director Irena Pule said. This generous Feed Appeal grant for a new cool room will go a long way to continue the sustainability of ADRA Pine Rivers in the storage and delivery of fresh food supplies to those in the community who are doing it tough. 23.01.2022 WHY WE CREATED THE RURAL SCHOOLS GRANTS PROGRAM Having 500 000 kids go to school without breakfast or lunch- is NOT ok! When we discovered this fact we knew we had to take action. We set to work raising funds specifically to support rural school communities. We designed a grant program that empowers rural school communities to support their students through a sustainable and long term solution, rather than teachers having to buy individual lunches for students or see t...hem go hungry. Just another step we are taking to work towards our mission of seeing an Australia where no one goes hungry. 16.01.2022 FEED APPEAL 2020 IN ACTION Things are a lot cooler at this Port Macquarie charity, thanks to a Feed Appeal 2020 grant of $7975. Mid Coast Care was able to buy new fridges and freezers to help them operate more efficiently and effectively. It has also allowed them to extend their welfare program to Wauchope.... The charity’s Hope Shop Cafe provides support to people experiencing homelessness, financial hardship or disability. The kitchen also provides training and skills for people with disabilities, broadening their opportunities for employment and independence. #feedappeal #feedappealinaction #feednewsouthwales #feednsw #newsouthwales #nsw #portmacquarie #midcoast #midcoastcare #communitysupportservices #community #nourishingcommunities #charity #dogood #foodrelief #makingadifference Squeaky Gate Olive Oil FareShare Woolworths Newman's Own News Corp Australia The Mid-North Coast News

15.01.2022 Why we work so closely with News Corp: The Feed Appeal (formally Feed Melbourne Appeal) was launched in 2009, co-founded by Leader Community News and FareShare. It grew out of a Maroondah Leader campaign in 2008 to raise money for a Croydon food relief charity, enabling it to expand its free lunch program. FareShare and Leader observed that many food charities throughout Melbourne could not keep up with demand because they did not have the facilities and equipment to take on ...and store more food. Fast forward 2020 and we are now a national charity that supports grassroots charities in every state! The image below is from around 2009- with one of Feed Melbourne's first fundraising campaigns. 09.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... It is unclear as to where April Fools’ Day originated, however popular belief stems back to when France moved from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. The Julian calendar new year began on the 1st of April, whilst the Gregorian calendar began its new year on January the 1st. So, the people who were slow to catch up or failed to recognise the new calendar became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called April fools

03.01.2022 BEHIND THE SCENES: We love visiting our charity partners to better understand how they support their communities. 01.01.2022 The Kogarah Storehouse was one of our grant recipients in 2019 and the support they offer their community has been outstanding. Thank you for doing what you do!

01.01.2022 Hearing the statistics that 1 in 8 kids arrive at school without breakfast and/or lunch, we felt we needed to do something. Further research demonstrated that for as little as $1`we could provide a nutritious breakfast or lunch for a student. This is one of the main reasons we created the Rural Schools grants programs. A little goes a long way for these kids to feel happier and more confident about going to school. #feedappeal2021 #feedingthecommunity #supportingthecommunity #feedafamily #supportingruralschools #ruralcommunities #FeedAKid
