16.01.2022 View from camp site. Dale

16.01.2022 The view this morning from our tent door. Last night with conditions wet and cloudy(We were inside the cloud!), road visibility down to less than 10 metres. I wasn't willing to keep riding in that weather...We put up camp in the mountains. Super pretty but:. Last night it was sad to not hear the sounds we expect in the night in the mountains. No rustling of animals or their calls...but this morning there is the sound of birds returning to the bush here. Everywhere we look we ...can see regeneration after the devastating impact of the fires. Tree ferns have amazing canopies of fresh growth, trees have green growth along their trunks and branches, and the undergrowth is fresh and green. We can only hope that some of the animals survived and can return. For us the final leg to home is without Dale as she continued on alone last night. She is home safe thankfully. We will so pack up and head home from this amazing adventure. We have experienced all weather types (except hail and snow), we saw dry lightening strikes and smoke from the fires (in the distance), have gone from 12 degrees to 50 degrees in a few days and then to wet and 23 degrees the next day. We have seen amazing beautiful things and have had some rides through incredible places. Dales bike has hit over 6000kms and mine is now over 20 000kms. More than 6000kms on this trip alone. I have more photo's and will add them from the computer at home. Keep following! Kate See more

Next i guess ill be talking about the heat. Stay tuned peps. Dale.

12.01.2022 A refreshment stop.

12.01.2022 The Blue Lake. Mount Gambler SA. Formed by a volcanic explosion! See all the basalt rock and the layers in the walls of the crater where the limestone is below the basalt rock. The tower and rock walls were built by community working bee 11 days after the end of world war 1. With over 2000 people helping, men, women and children and 700 visitors. Not all of them added their names. Incredible feat! Kate

12.01.2022 Blackened scorched, ashen, as far as the eye could see. Homes ringed by black yet still standing, saved only by a fine line and the sweat and hard work of the fireys... very brave souls. Many with melted metal of what used to be sheds and outer buildings. Sadly so many people have lost everyrhing, yet we passed many homes with signs out front in their driveways thanking the CFA for saving their lives and homes. These people need support...I hope the donations make it to them on the ground where its needed not into the bureaucrats pockets! I saw one sign that said: "together we stand stronger". Let's ensure that those donations get to those who need it! Kate

11.01.2022 49 degrees! Nearly made me pass out! Omg... too damned hot..We will hole up here in the aircon and ride later when the heat is only in the 30's. Last night it was a seemingly cool 30 degrees overnight. The record high in Bourke is apparently 51.6 degrees! Kate
