25.01.2022 As an actor, the worst thing you can do is hold your breath. That's why Robyn Nevin, star of stage and screen, values the Feldenkrais Method. Through Feldenkrais lessons, she has learned how to breathe, speak, move and feel calm on opening night, rather than feeling panic. Robyn is Patron of the Australian Feldenkrais Guild. Here she speaks with Sydney-based practitioner Margaret Kaye about why she chooses to promote this method.... And you can gain further insight into the Feldenkrais approach to voice and breath in the Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit 2020. The Summit kicks off today with a conversation featuring Georgi Laney and Brad Thompson. If you've registered, check your inbox, including promotional emails, for today's discussion on Voice and Breath. If you haven't, registered, you still can ... for free. Phew! 25.01.2022 It’s all about improving.. including the way you’re moving!

25.01.2022 You have the opportunity to sit in on a chat with four members of the thriving Perth-based Feldenkrais community, examining Embodied Resilience. A central tenet of the Feldenkrais Method is that attitudes and abstract ideas translate into posture and acture. Fleshing out the idea of how we take resilience into our ways of moving, thinking, sensing and feeling are this dynamic West Coast group:... Molly Tipping combines expertise in dance, Pilates and Feldenkrais, to bring sensitivity, clarity and joy to learning. Molly lectures in Alignment and Kinesiology at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in the dance department, as well as lecturing in Performance Anxiety and Somatic Optimisation. Molly also runs training workshops for such organisations as the Royal Academy of Dance, and the Australian Pilates Method Association. In her Feldenkrais practice, Infinite Movement, Jenny d’Cruz brings more than 25 years’ experience as a physiotherapist in the private and public health systems. She has taught Ante-Natal and Post-Natal education and exercise programs. Jenny believes that empowering her clients with knowledge and self-awareness results in improved self-management and less dependence on others for treatment. Lynda Johnston became interested in movement as a mother observing her children and others as they grew and developed. She has worked with preschool children in a Kindergym program, trained in Stott Pilates and Fitness, and most recently Feldenkrais. Annemarie de Heus has decided to make the Feldenkrais Method her life work. An experienced physiotherapist, she found the Feldenkrais Method when recovering from neck, back and shoulder injury following a car accident. Annemarie has learnt to move freely and without pain. She brings an intuitive nature, knowledge and experience to her practice. Meet this Perth powerhouse discussion in the Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit, 1-8 September. 24.01.2022 What can horses teach us about ourselves? You can find out, from Catherine Hamber, a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Assistant Trainer and registered physiotherapist. Catherine's experience as an equestrian coach has seen her working with horses and their riders at elite levels as well as for rehabilitation.... At her practice on the outskirts of Sydney, Catherine works with those who’d like improved posture, greater ease of movement and an increased sense of vitality, as well as those who seek to recover movement after difficulties related to injury, pain or neurological conditions. "My interest in human movement and aliveness has been life-long. My physiotherapy training taught me the 'what' but not the 'how'. Feldenkrais has opened a door on how moving, feeling, thinking are entwined in perception and action in the world. I am learning the way movement and attention direct progress. Finding my growing point has led me to explore new and interesting aspects of living. My intent is to live a potent and open-hearted life." Hear from Catherine, in conversation with Shona Lee, in the Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit, 1-8 September. Starts Tuesday! 21.01.2022 Did you know that the Feldenkrais Method is about much more than movement? Discover the deeper story behind the method, as we dive into the rich world of scientific theories, philosophies and cultural heritage that coalesced with a man called Moshe Feldenkrais. Feldenkrais, a high-level scientist, Judo master and humanist, formulated this method to improve a debilitating physical injury. However, his vision looked toward human potential, both the potential to self-actualis...e and the potential to become more at home in the human collective. Unpacking this topic at the upcoming Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit are host and Feldenkrais Practitioner Shona Lee, in conversation with Zoran Kovic and Anna Yeatman. Zoran Kovic is a philosopher, historian, martial artist, professional dancer, cognitive scientist and long-standing lecturer in somatic education in university performing arts programs. Zoran now applies his eclectic knowledge and experience as a trainer and educational director in Feldenkrais training programs. Anna Yeatman is a retired academic who has held professorial positions in women's studies, sociology and political science at a number of universities in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. She completed her Feldenkrais training with Jeff Haller, and is interested in exploring the philosophical and spiritual basis of Feldenkrais' work. 14.01.2022 BREATH & VOICE: So many modalities tell you: Take a deep breath. And you make yourself take a deep breath. However, making yourself take a deep breath doesn’t necessarily teach you how to change your habits of breathing at a deeper level. The difference with the Feldenkrais Method? Often, you are invited to breathe just as you are, to be just as you are, without judgement.... The key is awareness. We use awareness to meet your movements where they are, and to create powerful change, that reaches beyond the ribs, the muscles. Awareness brings you back to your whole self, your nervous system, your brain, your neural connections, your thoughts, feelings and emotions. To learn more about this extraordinary approach to breath and its effects on voice, join us for the Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit, 1-8 September. 13.01.2022 When you discover the power of your pelvis in movement, everything becomes easier. The pelvis is both centrally positioned and central to our wellbeing. It is the engine room for movement. However, in a sedentary and sometimes sex-negative culture, and in cases of trauma, the pelvis can be forgotten.... In the upcoming Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit 2020, Ralph Hadden will bring sexual and pelvic wellbeing into focus. Ralph has more than 40 years’ experience in movement and body therapies as a practitioner, teacher and trainer of teachers. He is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and Assistant Trainer. He was editor of "Feldenkrais Australia", the national publication of the Australian Feldenkrais Guild, from 2012 to 2018. 12.01.2022 The Feldenkrais approach to pain doesn't place all of the focus on the problem. It gives you the space to rewrite your story. It meets you where you are, looks for what you can do, and builds your learning from there, gently, without forcing, and without preconceived ideas of right or wrong. The effects can be life-changing for people whose journey with chronic pain has left them feeling disempowered and hopeless. ... 11.01.2022 PAIN: How is the Feldenkrais approach to pain so different to that of other modalities? Why do people with chronic pain find it so empowering? And why would a client call it a "revelation"? Find out in this meeting of minds, a conversation between two Australian Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners, in our upcoming online summit.... Sophie Fraser (left) is a Feldenkrais Practitioner and physiotherapist who has been working in private practice and pain rehabilitation programs since 2000. Sophie has done extensive study in the area of persistent pain and is a senior clinician at North Eastern Rehabilitation Centre’s pain program in Ivanhoe. Here, and at the Feldenkrais Studio, she has helped countless people in chronic pain, who had previously plateaued in their recovery, to recover lost movement abilities. Sophie has welcomed science’s neuroplasticity revolution, which supports the Feldenkrais approach to movement re-education. She runs specialist workshops for physiotherapists and occupational therapists working in the field of chronic pain, relating current pain and neuroplasticity research to therapeutic practice. Tali Plotnik (right), also a Feldenkrais practitioner and physiotherapist, is the founder of Movement Wisdom, and has worked for more than 15 years in several areas of rehabilitation including Neurology, Chronic Pain Management and Musculoskeletal Disorders. She has studied extensively with leading experts in the Feldenkrais Method both in Australia and Israel. She is currently completing a Masters of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) through the University of Sydney. 08.01.2022 Experiencing stroke and head injuries, people often lose their independence. Helping these people learn how to regain their independence is a passion of Adelaide-based Feldenkrais practitioners Susan Hillier and Jane Searle. Susan Hillier is Professor of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation, and Dean of Research at the University of South Australia (Sansom Institute of Health Research, Division of Health Sciences). She is also an Educational Director of Australian Feldenkrais Pr...actitioner training programs. She maintains a small clinical practice working with people with neurological movement disorders. Jane Searle has an extensive background in Neurological Physiotherapy and Feldenkrais, and worked hands-on with stroke survivors in a recent pilot study. Their conversation in the upcoming Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit explores the Feldenkrais approach to learning, and how this translates into massive improvements for people with neurological challenges. In this snippet from their conversation, they discuss the pilot study at the University of South Australia. The randomised control trial worked with a group of stroke survivors, and studied how, through Awareness Through Movement lessons, they began to overcome major frontiers: the fear of falling and the ability to move independently on the floor. See their full interview in the Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit 2020. Registration is FREE. 06.01.2022 True learning happens when we remain in the process, and allow curiosity to lead, rather than rushing toward an outcome. In developing his method of somatic learning, Moshe Feldenkrais employed not just biomechanics, but also the imagination, to explore how we can be more at home in a process of constant change. Expanding on this holistic approach, Feldenkrais practitioners Zoran Kovic and Anna Yeatman will share their understanding of many of the ideas and principles that fo...rm the basis of the Feldenkrais Method. 06.01.2022 Thank you #MadelineRogers for sharing your comments on this article: "Those readers who observe that the mind cannot be separated from physical functioning are absolutely right! The Feldenkrais Method, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist who was also a martial artist, employs many of the principles articulated in this article, but with an emphasis on LEARNING a function of the nervous system. Using mindful movement, usually done lying down on the floor, the Method g...ently retrains the student to use the whole self in movement. In the hundreds of delightful lessons, which Moshe devised, the Feldenkrais Method engages every part of ourselves in pursuit of better skeletal and neurological organization, which ultimately results in better balance and improved spatial awareness and coordination. The so-called core is just one part of ourselves involved in the miracle of uprightness and balance: we also need the critically important eyes and ears (teleceptors) to guide movement; the feet to sense the ground; and an awareness of the spine, which connects our two power centers the pelvis and the head. In group Feldenkrais classes, called Awareness Through Movement, I teach seniors to use their heads (literally), their feet, their pelvises, even their lips and tongue in short, their whole selves. Without learning balance explicitly, they begin to relearn what every toddler learns naturally: the ability to balance over their own two feet with ease." https://www.nytimes.com///live/elderly-balance-falls.html See more
