25.01.2022 Jubee is on his training journey to be a doggo who looks to his people for guidance when out in the world. But before we start outside we need to ensure he checks in before leaving the house. This lesson was all about door manners, place and focus. He's a smart guy who loves to learn.... 25.01.2022 YES!! I have had this conversation with many people in the last couple weeks! Using a lead inside seems a strange concept for some but the benefits to training are endless. If your dog can't hold a sit when people arrive, put them on lead so you can stop them from jumping on guests or rushing out the door.... Using a lead inside sets them up for success so they can't continue to do the things you don't want them to do and shows them what you do want.

15.01.2022 Molly is growing into a lovely young lady. She is loving her training and melting hearts along the way. Our last lesson was all about nice leash manners, being patient at the gate and calm meetings with other dogs. She did very well meeting Ash. She was interested but not too intense. ... 11.01.2022 Isn't Iggy just the cutest?!! This gorgeous little man is learning all about his new home and life with his family. With Iggy's coat he is going to need grooming often so we are getting him started on being ok with everything to do with grooming.... When you have a dog with hair that needs trimming around the face it's super important to teach them to hold still while the sissors are near. To do this we pair food with a light muzzle hold as well as teaching a chin touch. Teaching both these skills will help him be the perfect grooming client and feel confident at the salon. We've also put a plan in place to find a groomer and start taking Iggy in before he gets his first trim. His family can also get to know the groomer and get expert advice on to best maintain his coat. Along with muzzle hold and chin touch we of course worked on the basics of brushing. Iggy is a little star and took it all in his stride. If you have a pup that is going to need frequent grooming like clipping and trims you need to work on these skills everyday, for just 5 minutes so it becomes the norm. If you are struggling to groom your dog or your groomer has said they need help then get in touch. 07.01.2022 I've had a few conversations with greyhound owners who are worried about their hound growling and barking around other dogs. What we need to determine is the state of mind of the dog and the situation that it happens. A lot of the discussion is around play and excitement when they see other hounds so I wanted to share an example of play that involves growls and barks.... If you watch the video with the sound off you'd see hounds having a play. There are: play bows quick dodges to encourage play chasing If you watch the video with the sound on you might think something terrible is about to happen. There is a lot of vocalisation but it is nothing more than how they play! Some hounds are quiet and some are vocal! These three are also trying to figure out each other's play style, which you'll see towards the end when the play stops. But they stop, have a shake off and continue on their way. No bad feelings, just the end of this play session. Hearing your hound bark and growl during play can be scary but you need to read the situation and watch the body language to put the noise into context. Look for: playbows relaxed body chase me, chase you moves When to intervene: a dog is turning away and trying to avoid the interaction a dog tries to use their mouth to nip a dog has their tail between their legs a dog is being backed into a corner Finding doggy friends that enjoy a play together is fun but it's important to make sure both dogs are enjoying the interaction.
