19.01.2022 Earlier today the ACT Government announced further easing of COVID-19 restrictions in the ACT. Timing for return for non-contact and contact sport training and ...competition have been announced today. From Friday 19 June 2020 Non-contact sports can recommence competition play Up to 100 people, indoors or outdoors, with 1 person per 4 square metres, can participate. Sports requiring full contact permitted to start full contact training. From Friday 10 July 2020 Full contact sport can recommence competition play What is full contact sport? Full contact sport is any sport that allows non-incidental contact within its code. For example, netball rules do not allow for contact other than incidental contact, so it is a non-contact sport, where basketball and rugby league do allow for contact, so it is a full contact sport. Clubs might have already been in touch with their members with their indicative start dates so make sure you get back in contact with your clubs to be clear on their start dates following this announcement. Other easing of restrictions for sport from 19 June are: Group size for participation is increasing to 100 - physical distancing, good personal and respiratory hygiene must continue. Communal facilities such as changerooms and canteens may now be reopened provided food service requirements are met, along with general hygiene and physical distancing principles. Aquatic facilities in the ACT may have up to 100 participants in a venue, with up to four swimmers per lane. Spectators should not exceed the total group gathering size of 100. The number of spectators allowed in indoor venues should remain inline with the 4 square metres per person requirement with no more than 100 people. Individuals are encouraged to continue the Get in, Train/Play, Get out mindset. Please continue to follow the personal hygiene and distancing measures to keep COVID-19 suppressed in the ACT.

11.01.2022 The ACTFA committee has discussed the feasibility of hosting the National Championships and after due consideration of all the factors, we have decided the risk... is too large for us this year. Factors include: - The AIS Arena is closed for the rest of this year at least - The AIS basketball courts are not available - The next best option is half again as expensive - We are concerned about the entry numbers being affected by travel restrictions and people being understandably cautious Hopefully the situation will become such that regular travel and events can occur in 2021, with ACT again hosting the National Championships.

04.01.2022 What challenge can you set yourself to achieve in 3 weeks?

03.01.2022 Phase 2.1 has been announced to start midnight on 29 May 2020. The highlights pointed out in the webinar today by Rebecca Kelley, Executive Branch Manager of Sport and Recreation: Small group size increased to 20 participants +1 coach (plus 1 parent spectator for each minor participant) indoor sport venues can operate with 1 group in each discreet space (must have walls that limit airflow between spaces- curtain dividers don't count) continue with the "get in, train, get out..." approach maintain 1.5m physical distance & 4 msq per person keep up hygiene practices be careful of communal areas clean equipment after use consider how people will enter and exit the training space write a Return To Play plan ACT Sports are happy to help with writing the plan publish the RTP plan on website, social media, and email to members Phase 2.2 is expected to go ahead on June 19th, bringing group numbers up to 50. Phase 3 could be approved in July, which will allow for competitions to occur. What does this mean for ACT fencing? Clubs need to write a Return To Play plan, indicating how their activities will fit within the ASC framework, and have it approved by both ACT Sports and AFF. The ACTFA committee and ACT Sports are available to help with these plans. After your plan has been approved, you can publish it and recommence training activities.

03.01.2022 Following yesterday's announcement of restrictions on informal sport been carefully eased, sporting organisations (including peak bodies and individual clubs),... activity providers and venues are asked to prepare a ‘Return to Play in a COVID-Safe Environment’ plan to support the resumption of sporting activity in their specific context. This plan should detail how, in a sport-specific setting, activity will be delivered under this first phase, and any subsequent phases. This framework should provide clear and consistent guidelines for participants, coaches and volunteers, while also providing confidence to participants that their activity is being conducted safely and in accordance with requirements. To support your organisation's development of a "Return to Play in a COVID-safe Environment" plan please access a framework for community sport linked here: https://bit.ly/3buAfkb

02.01.2022 ACT Fencing community. Due to demand, Sports Medicine Australia and St John's Ambulance are unable to provide first aid coverage for the ACT open on the weekend. We are therefore putting a call out if anyone is willing to be or knows someone who would be able to be first aid co-ordinator on Saturday and Sunday. Requirement is to have a first aid certificate and be a central co-ordination point and if required treat minor injuries eg strains cuts etc and co-ordinate the calling of an Ambulance if required. Attendance would be required from 9:00am until event end (around 5:00pm each day). A first aid kit, ice and strapping will be provided. We would provide a suitable person $200 per day allowance. If you or someone you know is interested email [email protected]

02.01.2022 The ACTFA committee would like to extend thanks to all the volunteers who help keep our sport going through good and bad circumstances. Though there has been little activity in recent times, we know that, with the amazing volunteers we have, we will get back on the piste as soon as we can safely do so.
