25.01.2022 Hi All, getting in some practice with custom roms for some older Android devices. Two Samsung Galaxy 10.1's upgraded from 4.2 to 7.1 and some junk removed makes them run so much better than before and an Asus Transformer TF300T from 4.2 to 7.1.2

17.01.2022 Cheap Laptops "" IF "" and i repeat "" IF "" you need a cheap laptop here is an example of one that is great "" IF "" you do not need more that internet access to check your email and look at web pages. It has a good CPU and screen but with only 4Gb or ram and 64Gb of hard drive space both of which are NON upgrade-able you limit what is possible to do on it. WHY did i post this ??? because i have been asked to upgrade one and the customer was pissed off at me when i told him ...it was not possible and that he had wasted his money on something that clearly was toooo cheap to do the job he wanted it to fulfill. Don't buy a Mini if you intend to tow a 40' caravan behind it ! https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-a114-31-c014-14

14.01.2022 SSD's in older laptops ( or desktops ) Yesterday i was testing a msata drive to see if it was still working and could be reused. I have used and tested 2.5"... Sata SSD's in systems that are i3 i5 i7's and can tell you that they all perform much better than the standard 5400rpm or even a 7200rpm mechanical drive, they even beat the hybrid drives. BUT WHAT ABOUT OLDER DUAL CORE CPU's well i had a Dual Core T4200 to try it on. Testing on a lenovo 4446 laptop Intel Dual-Core T4200 , 3Gb ram Win7 64bit SP1. The drive was cloned to the mSata drive to keep the install identical except for the drive itself and drivers for the mSata drive and connected by the Sata connector as was the mechanical drive Seagate Momentus Laptop ST9250827AS Form Factor 2.5" x 1/8H Interface Type Serial ATA-300 Spindle Speed 5400 rpm Average Seek Time 12 ms Average Latency 5.6 ms Data Transfer Rate 300 MBps mSATA LMT-128M6M Read speed540MB/s Write speed320MB/s ( NEW SSD's have faster writes ) Mech. 12.01.2022 It's Spring and with the first few warm days we need to remember that out laptops and desktops need to have a clean as well. The fans that keep them cool and alive, collect dust and fine fibers , this reduces the effectiveness of the fan . The fan then runs at a faster speed to try and keep it's cool, creating more noise, using more power and sucking in more particles to increase the problem. High temperatures inside the laptop or desktop will cause problems, from failures of the motherboard and hard drive are most common , not the CPU because it is designed to shut down when it becomes to hot and that can be too late for the other parts. Drop it in for a tuneup and service or call 0477 323 000 or 03 5332 9556
