17.01.2022 Lots to tell...!! All is abuzz as we settle into our new premises at 59 Maud Street, Maroochydore (Cnr. Dalby Street and right across the road from the new town centre entrance). Access and parking is SUPER easy. We're also excited to welcome Theresa Carpenter as our "super-dooper" Client Services Manager. Theresa will be busy getting to know all of our clients over the next little while, so drop by and say hello (she's well prepared for her new role with the bottle of Shira...z within easy reach...) Also, thanks to Derby Cross for providing a unique addition to my own office - it certainly is a talking point...#derbycross Happy 2019 to all...!!! www.fergusonfp.com.au

06.01.2022 Last night the Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, delivered the Federal Budget for 2019. And if theres one thing to say about this budget its inoffensive. A nice tax cut for voters (erI mean low and middle income earners) that hits the back pocket pretty well immediately tick! The $1,080 low and middle income tax offset applies to the 2018/19 financial year, so the money will hit wallets by July.... Small and medium-sized business gets an increase to the instant asset write-off, up from $25,000 to $30,000 tick! Age pensioners, veterans and those receiving parenting payment will enjoy a one-off energy payment of $75 (for singles) and $125 (per couple). A nice sugar hit for those who are eligible, which wont include Newstart recipients. And of course, the seemingly obligatory changes to superannuation although this time around they appear sensible. Finally, we are moving toward alignment between our retirement age and our Age Pension age. And the age for superannuation spouse contributions looks to be lifted to 74. SMSFs will see more streamlined treatment of their exempt current pension income, and the Government will remove the requirement for an actuarial certificate where all members are in retirement pension phase (some would suggest a bit of a no-brainer). Also being introduced will be a Single Touch Payroll system so that information can be directly passed on to Government agencies like Centrelink; set to save more than $2 billion over the next five years. Are your eyes glazing over yet?? Note the additional money allocated to ASIC and APRA for implementing the Governments response to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. Consisting of $404.8 million to ASIC over 4 years, and more than $145 million to APRA in the same time frame, all to reinforce their supervisory and enforcement capabilities, it looks like interesting times ahead for financial services. Overall, this really does present as an election Budget and of course we dont know how much of it (if any) will be legislated. But theres definitely nothing controversial to see here. Im sure well all be watching with interest when the Opposition responds on Thursday. www.fergusonfp.com.au #budget

04.01.2022 WHEN THINGS GO PEAR SHAPED...(2 minute read...) In recent months Ive worked with 3 families whose lives have been impacted by serious illness; and this has prompted me to post this article. When it comes to personal insurances, Australians are pretty relaxed. The old shell be right mate comment gets thrown around a lot. Its an endearing trait of ours but one that doesnt cut it when things go pear shaped. And, as we knowthings go pear shaped all the time! So the massive...Continue reading
