19.01.2022 We’ve been a regular stall holder at Candelo market for about 3 years now. But with the bushfires and then the pandemic, we have not had the opportunity to sell at a market for months. And so we introduce to you the farmgate stall! Our good friends at @cowsnestfarm community built this little beauty and installed it outside our farmgate (an easier driveway to stop in than theirs was). We share the stall - Cows Nest providing their delicious jams, relishes, sauces and other pr...eserves, along with plants and farm-grown veg. We provide our two popular sellers at Candelo market - seaweed concentrate liquid for the garden, and our SCOBY starter kits of sourdough, komboucha and kefir. We’ve also added lacto-fermented veg such as sauerkraut and kimchi, nutrient-dense veg from our garden, and feather art from @yemaya_alix_art. We even made some gift packs for Mother’s Day which sold out. We’ve had a really supportive response from the local community, which is heartening after all everyone’s been through. I hope you get a chance to take a drive to Candelo- visit our farmgate stall and others that are popping up such as the awesome Karma Farm seedling stall, not to mention the beautiful Candelo cafe and General store who have stayed open right through. Here’s to new opportunities, new beginnings, and the positives that come out of adversity. See more
19.01.2022 Our pasture-fed beef finally have pasture to feed on again. The drought has broken....for now at least. What makes a drought over? Average annual rainfall? Anyway, it’s a relief, after years of drought and months of fires....to have green paddocks for now....a great relief. . . . .... #pasturefedbeef #smallfarms #droughtrelief See more

18.01.2022 When we dug this pond two years ago, right in front of the house, we called it a ‘fire protection dam’ not realising it would really grow into its name during this crazy bushfire season. It has also been a great way to cool off when the temps hit the 40s. Now it’s back to the drawing board on landscaping and plant species around the house- some to be removed, and more fire resistant species to be grown. We will be looking to learn from friends who lost so much this season. Ou...r hearts are with you. We also want to continue the community bonds we saw flourish amid the mayhem. And we look forward to seeing the blue sky again when the smoke shroud goes.... . . . #bushfireseason #holisticmanagement #regenerativeagriculture #soilhealth
13.01.2022 Don’t you hate it when people post those photos groaning with veges and talk about how they have so many zucchinis they don’t know what to do with them? ....Well here’s mine! Oh well have to make more delicious lacto-fermented pickles..... (2nd photo). Cucumber or zucchini works. Different recipes and techniques though . . . #gardenabundance #homesteading #growyourownfood #lactofermentation #wildfermentation

06.01.2022 After such a severe drought and years of bare trees it’s a delight to have the sweet abundance of a fruit harvest- apricots and plums are currently being picked and put under various preservation methods by creative family members (jam, fruit leather, freezing, dehydrating, and just plain eat-em-until-full). I love that my kids get to experience the seasons this way- both the four seasons of the year, plus the macro seasons of drought and abundance. It’s a dance. . . . #permaculture #homesteading #growyourownfood
02.01.2022 We are rocking the Xmas goodies at the farmgate stall. A customer messaged me from the stall yesterday and asked if we had chilli jam. I said we have plums already picked, and home grown chillis, we will give it a go! .... So limited edition organic chilli jam at the stall today. Plus heaps of other goodies including rum balls, decorated gingerbread cookies, and more zucchini’s freshly picked . . .#farmlife #farmgatestall #farm #homesteading #freshveggies #xmas #organic #plumjam
02.01.2022 After ten years of resisting making sauerkraut and kimchi to sell, instead preferring to teach people how to make their own through fermentation workshops, along came a global pandemic and orders to stay at home. So along with @cowsnestfarm we opened the farmgate stall and the number of people who have sampled our range of vege ferments has been incredible! And not only sampled, but returned to buy again and again. Thanks to our locals and passers-through, who have supported ...our stall and given me such great feedback on the ferments. Some have been surprised when their kimchi popped out if the bottle when they opened it (it’s very young and full of pep!) and others have loved trying new flavours like the Japanese pickle and the red cabbage/ginger/seaweed ‘power-kraut’. The main reason for my delight is that I know that gut floras everywhere will be relishing this boost, this little kick to help digest food and make the immune system strong. It’s the perfect time to be keeping your body healthy and the lurgies at bay. It is Saturday- the best day to roll on down to the stall and check out some new goodies. I think most of the beautiful hand-dyed textiles have already sold. But you will find a new range of perfumes, lemons, honeycomb, steak rub, garlic salt, green tomato chutney and watercolour bird postcards. Hope to see you there. . . . #farmgatestall #candelo #homesteading #fermentedfoods #wapf #buylocal
01.01.2022 New at the farmgate stall today - flavoured second ferment milk kefir!! If you want an immune boost this is it. Couldn’t get higher on the diversity of probiotic bacteria scale..... tastes great too- fizzy and tangy. Let me know if you want the recipe. #farmgate #milkkefir #immunesupport #homesteading #farmlife #fermentedfoods
01.01.2022 After a few months without milk (we dried off the cows so we could take a family break) Amber has calved and we are back in the flow! Such a relief, as while we loved supporting the local dairy by buying their beautiful Jersey milk, it was hard to see the constant flow of plastic bottles going through our home. Back to making raw milk yogurt, delicious and healthy milk kefir (great for the immune system), plus labneh, feta and other cheeses. The dairy building work is coming along, and soon we will start up cheese workshops and milk-a-cow experience again. Can’t wait!
01.01.2022 Crocus Saffron bulbs at the roadside stall today
