19.01.2022 We will soon be planning classes for next year and need to know if your child/children will be leaving Fernbrooke State School. Everyone has received a form to complete and return to the school office if your child/children are NOT RETURNING in 2021. Please return this to the office as soon as possible. If you are planning on an extended holiday over the Christmas break and will not return to school by the start of the school year, please come to the school office and collect a form to complete. These forms need to be returned to the office no later than Friday 27 November.

10.01.2022 Have you ever written a poem? Writing poetry is a genre that many students find difficult. An acrostic poem is a simple poem whereby each letter of a word or phrase begins a new line in the poem. Younger students can start off with something simple like their own name or their favourite pet. Write the word vertically down the page. The words don’t need to rhyme but try and link the words written to the theme of the focus word. You might like to start with words like: Summer, ...Perry, Dogs, Mummy, football, tennis, weekends Reading poetry can also be a fun thing to do. Find a poem and enjoy it together.

03.01.2022 Using prompts to starts writing: A collection of imaginative prompts and story starters can be used to spark your child’s imagination. Use one of the writing prompt images to write what happens in the story. Maybe your child would like to draw a comic strip and then write the speech marks to tell the story. The prompt can be used to describe what they see, build a story or continue the next chapter. Talk with your child about what they might like to write about before they start writing. Oral rehearsal is a great way to make connections between what they have read or experienced and incorporate this into their writing. Encourage your child to read their story aloud to promote the link between reading and writing.

02.01.2022 Don't forget tomorrow's P and C Dress up Day! We can't wait to see what our students are aspiring to be in the future!

02.01.2022 We keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves and resolve conflict without aggression. ALWAYS!!!!!! Be like Perry and be Respectful every day! Staff are also continuing to positively reinforce with students the steps for solving problems peacefully. Consistent and continued focus in this area is making a difference. Students are being taught and encouraged to use the steps and language below when presented with a conflict or problem.... Stop Name your Feeling Calm down (using respectful words) Ignore and walk away if the problem persists. Report to an adult if the problem persists (The language of report is important to dilute the concept of dobbing) Families can support their children to solve problems peacefully by encouraging them to practise these skills at home and in public places. Reminding them of the steps when faced with a problem will go a long way to helping them use the steps automatically. Your assistance in this area is very much appreciated. Thank you.
