25.01.2022 Coming up this Monday!

25.01.2022 OUR PLANTS ARE THRIVING! Our new management team toured our planting last Saturday and our July planting is thriving. The Fernies know how to make a success of restoring for our Squirrel Gliders. Good on you all!!!! (photos courtesy of Fiona van der Helm)

24.01.2022 Our Squirrel Gliders got great coverage in the Newcastle Herald and Fern Creek Landcare are Hunter Heros https://www.newcastleherald.com.au//fern-creek-landcare-c/

22.01.2022 A message from Fernie Naomi Jones Hello dear friends! Could you take a quick selfie with a #CleanUpCoalAsh sign and send it to me?? I've just started working for the Hunter Community Environment Centre and they have been working tirelessly on a campaign to get the NSW gov and power stations to clean up the heavy metal pollution they are causing in our beautiful waterways due to the leaching from coal ash stored in dams on the shores of Lake Macquarie, the Hunter River and ot...her places around NSW. We want the environment minister to commit to remediate the polluted ecosystems and to safely re-use the coal ash. HCEC are about to release a new report Out of the Ashes II which outlines the extent of this pollution and urges action. We'd loooovvvee some help spreading the word of this report and in asking the environment minister Matt Keane to take action. One easy way you can do this is to make a #CleanUpCoalAsh sign, take a selfie with it and send it to me at [email protected] (or DM me, whichever is easiest). We want to cover social media with #CleanUpCoalAsh. Check out the attached flyer for more details. Thank you thank you thank you

22.01.2022 Fern Creek Gully Landcare has a history. It all started in 2004 with about a dozen friends who thought it would be good fun to re-establish a rainforest in the upper creek line. And it was fun. Now the team is a great mob transforming the whole valley. "From small things big things grow".

22.01.2022 The rain has cleared and it’s a beautiful morning to get down in the valley. Come on down!

22.01.2022 Meet Gabi our in-house plant guru! This Saturday she will be guiding an exploratory walk through the Awabakal reserve. See the wildflowers in bloom including squirrel glider feed trees and nest boxes from our Squirrel Glider Project! Swipe left for more details message to book in for our walk. 21.01.2022 These photos show how much the Fernies transformed the central valley with their planting in July (compare with the video below). The blackend tree stump in the middle is the same blackened one in the video.

21.01.2022 MORNING SUN, THE DAY'S WORK BEGINS, ANOTHER DAY'S WORK SHINES. BUT STILL "I HAVE WEEDS TO DO BEFORE THE DAY IS THROUGH. I CANNOT SIT WITH THE CORMORANTS AND BASK THE DAY AWAY. THE BITOU WILL NEVER LET ME REST". (photos courtesy of Nell Robertson)

20.01.2022 Come along to our next Work Session, October 17th

18.01.2022 Hi Fernies. A little post to ease you into our next critical task - EXHAUSTING THE WEED SEED BANK! Easy work but absolutely critical. Not to overwhelm you but a "relaxed walk in the park" every 3 or 4 months for the next 5 years. Then we will have probably achieved a 90-95% exhaustion of the seed bank. Wacko!!! Our Squirrel Glider planting will then be reasonably safe from the "NASTIES!!!!" Won't the Gliders be happy. Flowers galore!!!!!!

11.01.2022 Come and weed to help our Squirrel Gliders

11.01.2022 Here's our delightful Ninon who brought the best glider photos to our screen. Shame she's not with us to see the success of our glider planting boosted by the recent 100mm plus of rain.

11.01.2022 SNAKES ARE MOULTING Although we don't often see snakes during our Landcare events, finding a snake skin, is a timely reminder that they are around, especially as the weather warms up. It is essential that all volunteers wear appropriate boots and long pants during our weedings and tree planting. If you are lucky enough to encounter a sighting of our slithery friends, then it is best that you stand absolutely still, until it moves away. Great opportunity to practice mindfulness and relaxed breathing techniques to stay calm. (story and photo by Fiona van der Helm)

10.01.2022 This should be compulsory reading for every politician, every citizen and every landcarer: https://www.abc.net.au//relentless-drought-captu/12753788

09.01.2022 For those who didn't see the valley full of bitou before Toolijooa sprayed it all in February and our "Strong Team" slashed it down in June and our great volunteer team planted it out in July this video will give you some idea of where we started and the photo (separately posted) of what we have achieved. Something the Fernies should be really proud of.

09.01.2022 T H A N K Y O U! To all of our awesome volunteers who showed up on Saturday We had an epic time and can’t wait to see you again at our next work session. Stay tuned for details #landcare #conservation #community #dudley #discoverdudley
