23.01.2022 Testimonial by Angela Darch (August 2019) After being recommended by a friend I went along to Fern Leaf Pilates. Andrea’s passion for Pilates and helping people achieve optimal wellbeing is apparent the first time you meet her. She has an extensive working knowledge about how our bodies work, is skilled and approachable in how she communicates this knowledge and is compassionate, patient and generous. She also brings her wonderful sense of humour and light-heartedness to s...essions, which is extremely helpful! When I first began working with Andrea her expertise in complex presentations was immediately apparent. Seven years after sustaining a severe spinal injury, and the three major surgeries that kept me on my feet, debilitating back spasms were still a major issue. I had also been living with endometriosis and its associated challenges for over 35 years. Within a few minutes working with Andrea I noticed a shift in pain levels and knew she would be able to help me. Six months ago we began weekly one-on-one sessions, with serious impacts! My back and body are now stronger, general pain levels are lower, and the spasms that were once daily companions are now a rarity. I am so grateful for Andrea’s help and cannot recommend her highly enough. Thank you Andrea!

21.01.2022 Testimonials I have been participating in Andreas Pilates ABC (After Breast Cancer) group for just over 3 years. Andrea’s approach is both warm and professional. The classes are comprehensive, promote strength and flexibility and vary with the use of different equipment, e.g. fit balls, resistance bands. Andrea adapts exercises to suit individuals, according to their abilities. I now find that my balance has improved, my flexibility increased and that I have a better range ...of movement in my arm and chest. Maree Gerven ( Pilates ABC, 2018) I have been coming to Andrea’s classes for 2 years and I really enjoy them. I have a much better understanding of my body particularly in core strength and control of individual muscles. I feel that Andrea has a really good understanding of each person’s needs and varies exercises in the class to suit those needs. She also makes the classes fun. I come away from her classes feeling more flexible and with improved muscle strength. Dianne Carrington Smith (Pilates ABC, 2018) I have been a member of a small group who have benefited from Andrea’s expertise for over 3 years. I had heard about the core and core stability and our first classes were devoted almost entirely to locating the core and turning it on. We have all improved our posture, our muscular strength and our balance while switching on our core before we move. Andrea is endlessly patient and skilled at adapting exercises to suit people with physical limitations. Alex Tanner (Pilates ABC, 2018) My experience with Andrea is through Chair Pilates in a retirement village. In addition to her clearly demonstrated expertise in the field, a major strength is her patience, and her ability to describe and adapt exercises to individual needs and capabilities. Rae Stewart (Chair Pilates, 2018) I am fortunate to attend Chair Pilates classes with Andrea and have done so for the last six months. I am finding the classes extremely beneficial and can highly recommend her capabilities as an instructor. Bob Wilkie (Chair Pilates, 2918) Andrea’s Chair Pilates sessions are ideal for ‘Seniors’ wanting to improve core strength and maintain flexibility. Her ability to select exercises that cater for individual differences means that all participants are working at their own level, and get maximum results, and thus enjoyment, from doing the exercises....Chair Pilates provides an ideal workout for Seniors, and I thoroughly recommend to others to join the classes. Gai Cross (Chair Pilates, 2018)

20.01.2022 Seniors Week Chair Pilates has kicked off today with a great session all about catching your breath. There are still places available for the morning sessions for the remainder of the week. So if you feel adventurous about exploring your core or finding your feet check out the program and ring or email Andrea to book your place.

18.01.2022 How to Lift a Heavy / Light Object? For a long time, we have wanted to make this video but some other project always demanded our attention. What is special a...bout this video is that it is compulsory viewing not only for professionals who engage in movement but for everyone. And mainly those who bend a lot during the day to raise objects whether light or heavy. We did this for you for free a lot of work days just for you. The only thing we ask in return is that you share it with your friends. In this way, we will help as many people around the world as possible! Forward bending - some kinesiological aspects | Dr. Gill Solberg With regard to this video, I would like to add a few more important kinesiological aspects (that are fully explained in our Muscle & Motion Posture comprehensive app. Bending forward is not a contraindication in our daily life. It is a very important movement to be kept and maintained. However - In daily function, the way to bend forward depends on the task. In many occasions in life, we need (and should) use segmental rounded bending (in healthy back cases) such as in tying shoelaces, picking a light object off the ground etc. But this should be done gently, with bent knees, and getting lots of joints to join in the entire movement. (In cases of various back pathologies, this pattern should be avoided due to inter-vertebral disc problems). In general - elongation of the spine before moving into a forward bend, combined with exhalation and core muscles contraction (Transversus abdominis and the pelvic floor muscles) is a safe way to bend forward (if the Hamstrings are very short, I will recommend staying with bent knees in order to decrease pressure on the lumbar spine). So, just to summarise the idea: there is no one way to bend and we should teach our students various strategies of bending allowing them to choose the right way according to the specific functional demand. Thanks! The Muscle and Motion team. Try our Strength Training app or Posture app. Choose the best app for you! http://www.muscleandmotion.com/free-trials/
