25.01.2022 Our community is the best. Matthew James Fagan & Kellie Grattidge generously donate their time to come and entertain our guests at Fernlea Community Care throughout the year. Everyone had a great time singing and dancing and then enjoyed a magnificent lunch prepared by Lisa, our chef.

25.01.2022 Dementia Action Week - DAY 4 tips are about finding the right words to communicate with people living with dementia. Communicating with others can be one of the most frustrating and challenging issues they face. Each person with dementia is affected differently but some of the most common ways communication can be impacted include:... Having trouble finding the right word Struggling to keep up with conversations or to fully grasp what is being said Forgetting some of the normal conventions of conversation and interrupting or ignoring people when they are speaking.

20.01.2022 National Carers Week 2020 is coming soon! 18.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? Fernlea made a submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality & Safety recommending our model of care be adopted across aged care, to bring better outcomes. The exact type model of care was recommended by the panel of industry leaders in aged care on ABC’s ‘The Drum’ episode Monday evening August 17. A model of care that is person-centred, employs a ‘community-participation’ approach and provides services in smaller home-like settings. https://www.fernlea.com.au/our-model-of-care

17.01.2022 Carers provide 2.2 billion hours of care each year, with a value of almost $1.5 billion per week. Visit the Carers Australia National Carers Week website and tell us why you care about unpaid carers and help build a carer-friendly Australia: http://www.carersweek.com.au/

14.01.2022 It was reassuring to hear Industry leaders validate a future aged care model of care, that reflects how our organisation Fernlea Community Care already delivers its day respite and in-home care service, a model that is the way forward to delivering better outcomes for older Australians. The panel on ABC’s ‘The Drum’ episode August 17, discussed the need for the model of care in aged care needs to change to being more person-centred and not profit driven, to employ a ‘community-participation’ approach and to deliver services in smaller home-like settings that ageing people are familiar with. http://ow.ly/QWcS30r57k0 #ABCthedrum #fernlea #fernleacommunitycare #carers #agedcare #inhomecare #dayrespite

07.01.2022 People with dementia should be given space to do things on their own, so they can retain independence and self-worth. If they need help with something, they’ll ask for it. Instead of trying to take charge, try to consider how you can give a person with dementia more space in the following scenarios.
