24.01.2022 Life with Colin, is a life of forever half-passing around teddy bears in my arena

22.01.2022 Fun, yet cold weekend up at the Tatura Classic - one of our favourite events of the year! Took the two young boys this year. Seamus was a trouper, he hasn't competed anywhere but Boneo, and hasn't been out at all since January, but after only 5 weeks back in work following a 3 month surgery break (my shoulder reconstruction, his gelding operation), he pulled out four super tests, including his very first try at Novice. He's not the most energetic horse, so that is a lot for ...him, but he handled it like a pro. Placed 4th & 5th in the Prelim and 6th & 7th in the Novice, all with qualifying scores. Seamus just has the most delightful attitude, I'm really excited about our future together! Poor Perfect however, definitely does not like competing on grass - I wondered after last year, but this year confirmed it. He did two quite nice tests on Saturday, for 4th & 3rd in the Prelim, he felt a little unsure, so we took it easy, however with more rain overnight he had a few slips in the warm-up on Sunday & got quite overwhelmed. After a difficult ride in the 2.1 I decided to withdraw him from the 2.2, instead we had a few minutes in the sand warm-up where he was back to his usual, perfect self. Perfect did however finally receive his rug from being the highest scoring Young Horse or Pony from last year's event (he was in the indoor for that class!). It well worth the wait, he was very proud of himself & we got some lovely photos of him in his swish rug! A big thank you to Sue Terry for running this great event - I'm already planning my team for next year! Thank you also Katy for being our wonderful groom for us and freezing with us all weekend, and Skye of course for the lovely photos :-) See more

12.01.2022 Bittersweet feeling returning home from my final Victorian Youth Dressage Championships. This event was my very first championship 10 years ago & has been my fa...vorite ever since. 11 championships, all but one of them were with BB (he was sick in hospital the other year) & together we have competed in every level from Preliminary to GP at this event, including Pas De Duex. BB's freestyle was the very last test of the competition & he put everything into it for me. What a journey it has been. I was tears leaving the arena for the last time at a YR championships & couldn't have asked to do so in a more fitting way - riding my beloved BB who has been with my since the beginning, at the end of the GP freestyle wearing my beautiful Tsarvorite Kevin Hitchens & Hamid Bros. stock pin that BB & I won at this event two years ago, capitalising the spot light of being the final test of the competition and being judged by Luciano D'Elia who has judged us at many Youth Championships & Judy Alderdice who was team manager of the NZ team when we traveled over to NZ for the trans-tasman Youth Championship in 2017. Being my last year & I wanted to make the best of it, so BB was accompanied by Thorn who was competing in the Advanced. Changes are slowly improving, still a low point for us but we got respectable scores in both tests - placing 6th in the 5.2 & easily qualifying for our freestyle. Thorny thought the freestyle was very thrilling & after some initial over-zelousness did some lovely work to finish 2nd. Perfect also made the trip down with us & was an angel for his tests out back, placing 2nd in the participation Preliminary 1.2 with over 70% & 3rd in the Pony Preliminary 1.2 with just under 69%. Unfortunately his other two tests were in the main arena right next to the freestyles, which proved a bit much for the baby of the team. He tried terribly hard to keep it together for me, however couldn't quite cope with the loud noises - causing us to retire from one of the tests. Second try went much better & we were able to mostly work through the tension with only a few little melt downs near the end. Very proud of how hard he tried for me, he hates to disappoint, but those are incredibly difficult conditions for a 4yo stallion with his limited exposure. Seamus was my 4th ride & a complete legend! Only his sixth test onwards & he put down two foot perfect tests in the participation Preliminary to finish 1st & 6th & Runner-up overall of the senior division. Next day I lost his attention a little on the main arena, resulting in a miscommunication & a bit further down the order, however finished with another lovely clean test to place 7th in the open 1.3. He has such a big heart & will be a lovely horse to take through the levels as he continues to develop more strength. A busy 3 days with 4 horses & 14 tests, plus Skye's two horses. Thank you Bridgette for coming to help us out/photograph/video over the event - we couldn't have managed without you & congratulations on your results on Sunday. Also thank you Katy, Skye, Ronnie & Justine for your help & photography skills too. Thank you to all the organisers of the event for having us, especially Jan Smith for allowing me to borrow the mic to say farewell to this chapter of my life - and thank you everyone for your overwhelming support afterwards! Thank you to the sponsors, riders, judges & volunteers for making this special event what it is, I look forward to watching this event continue in the years to come! Thank you Katy & Dad for your support over the years, thank you Carol for being my long suffering coach & helping me to achieve my riding goals! Most of all thank you to all the horses & ponies in my life - each with their own quirks & challenges, but most of all my wonderful BB for carrying me around a staggering 10 Youth Championships, bringing home many championships, including Big Tour champion the last 3 years in a row - no young rider could ask for a more incredible horse!
