20.01.2022 Rescue and rehabilitation groups have been extremely busy with many dehydrated, malnourished bats displaying unusual behaviour and falling from the trees. Flying-fox have been recently sighted in back yard trees for days, because there is such a shortage of food, so when they find a tree that provides food (flowers and/or fruit) they are staying as they do not have the energy to return to their roosts. Flying foxes should NEVER be found solo in a tree. If they are, they are i...n trouble. If you notice a bat roosting in a back yard tree more than three metres high, keep an eye on it. If the bat does not fly out at dusk and remains in the tree he could be suffering from dehydration and starvation. If you find bats that are low in tree (ie lower than 3m), or on the ground, please DO NOT TOUCH, call Bats Queensland on 0447 222 889 or RSPCA on 1300ANIMAL for assistance.
