22.01.2022 * PRINCIPAL'S END OF YEAR UPDATE * Dear Parents/Caregivers, I would like to express my gratitude for the support Ferny Grove State High School has received from the families and broader community throughout 2020. Your understanding and compliance with our regular emails and requests during COVID enabled us to navigate your child’s learning through very challenging times. ... I would also like to express my gratitude for the dedication and commitment of our entire school staff extended to every student during 2020. During times when staff had personal concerns for their own health and safety, they continued to put the interests of student academic, social and emotional welfare ahead of their own. I would like to express my appreciation for the support the school has received from the School Council and P & C throughout the year. Their dedication to the ongoing support of families during stressful periods, and providing financial assistance where necessary, was truly commendable. Whilst we lost many opportunities during 2020 with regard to school events, I look forward to their return in 2021. With renewed optimism, the school community can look forward to a more normal school year with numerous opportunities for our students to participate in the richness of extra-curricular events. On behalf of the staff of Ferny Grove State High School, I wish all families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to welcoming our students back on Wednesday, 27 January 2021. 19.01.2022 The Junior SRC (Natalie, Chloe and Adele), along with the support of many keen Year 11 students, ran a snow cone fundraiser last Friday, to support 3rd Space - a charity that helps the homeless community of Brisbane. The snow cones were a massive success the spring heat giving us a helping hand. To everyone that enjoyed a snow cone, thank you! All you have to do is interact with the entry you think embodies the requirements most (this can be liking, reacting, commenting etc) and the design with the most love at the end of Design Week WINS! ... 19.01.2022 Good afternoon Parents/Guardians, Today the school received a bomb threat via email. News reports indicate this has occurred across Brisbane. Student safety will always be our number one priority. We took the threat seriously, contacted the police and evacuated students to the oval, as outlined within our Emergency Response Plan.... The Police have subsequently conducted a thorough sweep of the school and declared the school safe for students to return to class. I can confirm that all students are safe and have been briefed about the incident. Year 12 students who were sitting their external assessment have also been briefed, and the school is in consultation with QCAA to determine the necessary course of action to ensure no student is disadvantaged. You can purchase these via Flexischools, along with our other merchandise, or come by the Auditorium Foyer on Friday December 4 at second break to purchase. These would make a great Christmas gift!

11.01.2022 This morning, our International Student Team farewelled Kiana Kiani and Miyako Uchida who will be returning to Japan in the next few weeks. Both students have been wonderful additions to the Ferny Grove community and we thank them for their contribution to our school. 08.01.2022 Yesterday the Year 7 German Immersion class had their End of Year / Christmas celebration. They shared their German Christmas tradition presentation, did Secret Santa, played games, enjoyed some yummy food and, in Period 4, their Year 9 buddies joined us for some more fun. The students had a great time. Thank you to all the parents and carers for their support not only with this celebration but throughout the whole year. The Year 7 Immersion class and myself wish all families a healthy, safe Merry Christmas and a great start to 2021! #fernygroveshs #germanimmersion

08.01.2022 The Drama staff and students would like to acknowledge Jonathan Becker, who works as a master teacher in Europe, Asia and United States. In addition to performing and teaching Jonathan creates masks for the international theatre community. Early term one we ordered a range of comic and tragic masks to be used in our Senior work units. Covid impacted upon the delivery of the Greek masks and for many months they went ‘missing’. Jonathan spent hours on the phone to postal serv...ices around the world trying to find out where they were. So we were all very excited when they arrived at Ferny last week. Thanks Jonathan and Ana, our Teacher-Aide, who persistently chased their whereabouts. Jonathan when reflecting upon the impact of the pandemic on his work stated, As artists we pivot and recreate when the world changes around us. #fernygroveshs #drama #theatre #mask

03.01.2022 Congratulations to the Year 10 Drama students who performed to an audience of family members and significant others. This was a very celebratory community event which showcased the excellence of our young actors. With feedback being one of the school’s focus points Ms Ray Roborg Sondergaard and Ms Melissa Rowse would like to thank the parents who remained after the show to share their reflections as well as the comments which have been emailed such as: Thank you for a wonderf...ul performance last night. We laughed and laughed - just what we needed. It was so lovely to see the kids enjoying themselves and doing what they love. This was such a fun way to end what has been a roller coaster of a year for the students. Thank you for all your hard work, commitment and support over the year. _______ has thoroughly enjoyed your lessons. I just wanted to tell you how amazing the performance was and how much I thoroughly enjoyed tonight! The entire class was fantastic and I thought you had a number of particularly strong students that absolutely shone! The skits were hilarious (my grandma couldn’t stop laughing) and I thought the whole class had really good physicality and were really committed to the performance. #fernygroveshs #drama

03.01.2022 Congratulations to our Ferny Grove State High School Minecraft team on winning the Interschool Minecraft Tournament this year. Special thanks to Golden-Valley Lions Denise and Paul, Mr Damien Green from Ashgrove State School and Mr Ferdinands for judging this tough competition.
