21.01.2022 An article in the Guardian by Emine Saner, Return of the rhythm method how natural contraception went digital, https://www.theguardian.com//return-of-the-rhythm-method-h talks about an app (Natural Cycles, developed by particle physicist Elina Berglund) which allows women to use their phones to employ the (Basal Body Temperature) fertility awareness method. The article goes on to equate fertility awareness methods with the rhythm method. Certainly 70% of menstrual c...harting apps are based on the rhythm method and are not reliable. But modern fertility awareness based methods of family planning do no rely on rhythm, they accurately chart a woman’s pre-ovulatory infertility, change to fertility and ovulation. Modern fertility awareness methods do not rely on what has happened in the past to predict the future. They give women control of their fertility as it is actually happening. At Fertility Fundamentals we only teach modern, effective fertility based methods to help couples achieve or avoid a pregnancy and help women monitor their reproductive health. 15.01.2022 An article by Michael Cook in BioEdge, Are sperm counts declining around the world? https://www.bioedge.org//are-sperm-counts-declining/12651 says that a number of studies have reported a significant decline in sperm concentration and total sperm count among men from Western countries. Moreover, given recent findings that reduced sperm count is related to increased morbidity and mortality, the ongoing decline points to serious risks to male fertility and healthSperm c...ount has previously been plausibly associated with environmental and lifestyle influences, including prenatal chemical exposure, adult pesticide exposure, smoking, stress and obesity. Therefore, sperm count may sensitively reflect the impact of the modern environment on male health across the lifespan and serve as a "canary in the coal mine" signalling broader risks to male health. At Fertility Fundamentals we understand the impact of poor health on fertility, for both men and women. We assist both partners to gain better health to improve immediate conception goals as well as prevent long term ill health. Contact us today to see how we can help you.
13.01.2022 An article from ABC news, IVF: Financial incentives may be driving decisions and advice of some fertility doctors, by Wendy Lipworth, Brette Blakely and Ian Kerridge http://www.abc.net.au//ivf-are-financial-motives-i/9111402 says about one in 25 Australian babies are conceived using assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). These interventions are almost all offered in private fertility clinics, backed by a thriving fertility ind...ustry. Women who are deemed eligible for IVF can have an unlimited number of cycles subsidised by Medicare, but out-of-pocket costs can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars per cycle. Our research, published today in the journal Human Fertility, suggests the money being made from IVF could be subtly changing the advice doctors giveInterviewees (professionals involved in ART in Australia) said financial motives were influencing ART practices in Australia, with some women offered IVF who don't actually need it. Others are offered repeated cycles of treatment, even when they aren't likely to succeed. This dynamic was seen to be facilitated by the current Medicare system. The safety net protects patients by limiting the amount they have to pay out of pocket once they reach a certain threshold. But it can also potentially encourage over-servicing and over-charging. There is no cap on the number of procedures that can be offered or the fees that can be charged. At Fertility Fundamentals, we diagnose and treat underlying causes of infertility. Our success rate is comparable to other natural fertility clinics throughout the world and our cost per pregnancy is 75% lower than that of ART. Contact us to find out how we can help you. See more
12.01.2022 An article in The Guardian by Eva Wiseman, Breaking the cycle: women are learning to love their hormones, https://www.theguardian.com//breaking-the-cycle-women-lear says that women are turning away from hormonal contraceptives in order to reclaim some autonomy over their bodies; that, according to psychology researcher, Martie Haselton, our hormones guide us through uniquely female life experiences, from feeling desire and pleasure to choosing a mate, having a child (...if we would like to), raising a child and transitioning to our post-reproductive years. The article goes on to say, Where once women were encouraged to combat the effects of hormones with the Pill and HRT, stamping down wobbly moods in order to be in control of their bodies, today their daughters are turning away from hormonal contraceptives in order to reclaim some autonomy over their bodies. And that it’s not just younger women who are changing the conversation: as we learn more about menopause, the taboo there is lifting, too People are no longer framing menopause as an illness, but something that, with care and knowledge, can be managed. Martie Haselton was also quoted as saying that women’s rights are enhanced, not diminished, by an increased understanding of how our bodies and minds work. At Fertility Fundamentals we work naturally to help women understand their cycles in whatever their phase of reproductive life. We work to nurture their health and improve their understanding of themselves and their fertility. Call us today and find out how we can help you. See more

09.01.2022 An article in the UK Catholic Herald, We need to talk about the Orwellian world of IVF, by Francis Phillips, http://www.catholicherald.co.uk//we-need-to-talk-about-th/ said that, Human embryos are treated as 'objects' that can be declared 'less good' and left to perish People hostile to the Church see its teachings on sex, contraception, marriage, IVF and so on, as typical of its killjoy approach to life (but)if all human beings are made in the image and likeness of Go...d from the first instant of conception (when, biologically, new life begins), their dignity has an intrinsic supernatural dimension When you read about what couples have to endure when agreeing to IVF and to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), you enter an Orwellian worldIVF proceeds as if the human embryo were simply a mass of cells to be used, tested, selected or discardedWhere is respect for the dignity of the couple in all this, or the reverence and respect that is owed to a unique, irreplaceable human embryo? At Fertility Fundamentals we respect the dignity of all human life. We look at the couple holistically and we work to achieve a pregnancy only through natural means. We do not refer for IVF. 06.01.2022 A Bioedge article, Hormonal contraception boosts risk for breast cancer in Danish study, https://www.bioedge.org//hormonal-contraception-boo/12546 by Michael Cook, says that researchers found that in about 1.8 million women studied, the risk of breast cancer was 20% higher among women who were currently using or had recently used hormonal contraceptives than among those who had never used them. And the risk increased with longer duration of usemany doctors believe that newer versions of the Pill are safer. Sadly, this appears not to be the case. At Fertility Fundamentals, do not prescribe hormonal contraceptives, we teach couples how to understand their natural fertility and how to avoid or achieve a pregnancy using effective fertility awareness based methods. 03.01.2022 According to an article in the Telegraph, Spermageddon: Why the human race could be infertile in 50 years by India Sturgis, (m)ale fertility is dipping, and fast. Sperm may prove to be the greatest casualty of modern lifeLast summer, scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem found that male sperm counts had fallen by almost 60 per cent in 40 yearsNo generation of human being has ever lived under the type of stress that people are now experiencing in developed coun...trieswhich has a detrimental effect on sperm production. It’s estimated that around one in six couples have problems conceiving and, of those, the split between male and female cause is roughly 50:50Male infertility can be caused by testicular damage, congenital defects, hypogonadism (low levels of testosterone) and ejaculation disorders, among other thingsTo be successful, (sperm) must swim 15cm from the vagina to the egg, avoiding vaginal acids that will kill them if they’re not quick enough. At Fertility Fundamentals we understand that sperm need a protected environment to successfully reach an egg to fertilise it, which is why we teach women to chart their fertility so that couples can time intercourse to optimise their chances of achieving a pregnancy naturally, even if sperm numbers are low. We also work with couples to help improve their diet and reduce their stress to improve their general health. We also offer a full male fertility assessment and provide treatments to improve sperm counts if needed. 03.01.2022 According to an article, Heavy periods could soon be a thing of the past https://www.independent.co.uk//heavy-periods-menstruation- by Sabrina Barr, heavy periods may soon be a thing of the past thanks to a pioneering new study into the causes of heavy menstrual bleedingshedding of the endometrium (the womb lining) is linked to dropping levels of oxygen during menstruationIn order to reduce the amount of blood lost, the surface of the womb that has lost its lining must... healwhen hypoxia occurred (lowered levels of oxygen), the body produced a protein called HIF-1 (hypoxia inducible factor one). Production of the HIF-1 protein speeds up the healing process of the womb liningwomen with heavy periods typically had lower levels of HIF-1 in comparison to women with a lighter flow. At Fertility Fundamentals we keep up with the latest research and work to help women who are struggling with menstrual problems of any sort. Call us to see how we can help. See more
