20.01.2022 ICSI vs IVF YES there is a difference and not many people know that our scientists have many different ways of creating life! IVF, the one most of us know about, see's the egg and the sperm put into a test test tube (in vitro). Our Embryologists then wait for the egg and sperm to do the tango and if they merge to form a single cell (AKA an embryo), if it then splits into multiple cells, the embryo is transferred back into the cosy uterus AND provided all the necessary parts ...are present, a tiny life begins. ICSI is slightly different in that the science becomes even more mind blowing (we didn't think it was possible either), with our Embryologists actually injecting the sperm into the egg!! We make it sound simple, but they first have to catch the sperm and then inject it into the egg! No tango in sight! For more info, call us on 1300 899 850 or send us a private message and we'll get in touch

19.01.2022 At Demeter Fertility, we use a natural IVF technique that reduces the doses of medication while focusing on collecting the best quality egg that your body has naturally selected. Its an approach that prioritises quality over quantity. . . We use this technique for women who: Have low egg reserve... Had a previous poor response to stimulation drugs Are in the older reproductive age group . . As with all our approaches, Natural IVF offers a less invasive approach and the use of very low fertility hormones leads to fewer potential risks and side effects. To find out more about this technique and whether it may be suitable for you, please get in touch with us. #ivf #ivfsydney

19.01.2022 We are currently offering our Over 40s Program and other fertility services including IVF and ICSI under specific guidelines. You may NO LONGER need to put your PLANS ON HOLD. IVF patients can access egg collection procedures under local anaesthetic with no hospital or anaesthetist fees.*... *Conditions do apply. Please get in touch with us to discuss further. 1300 899 850 #demeterfertility #over40s #IVF #ICSI #eggcollection

18.01.2022 With a majority of the world is self isolation, this is a great time to nurture or develop skills and talents that may have been put aside with the hustle and bustle of life. Always wanted to bake that intricate cake but couldnt find the time? Needed to re-organise your wardrobe space but never got around to it? Those dreams of jamming out on the guitar? Those with kids home from school may feel that they have even less time than before. Why not set the kids up in the back...yard with a game and picnic and soak up some sun. Things may be different to what were used to but there is so much beauty still to be had. Appreciate every moment and be thankful for this opportunity to spend time with your loved ones and recharge your batteries. #ivf #ivfsydney #demeterfertility #nature #patience #love #kindness #compassion #selfcare #fertility #lifeisajourney

18.01.2022 PR - Convo’s with an Embryologist HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO CHECK ON GENETIC MATERIALS AFTER FREEZING? Liquid nitrogen is used to keep these all frozen (they are essentially snap frozen at about -170 degrees, that's cold!). Tanks are monitored every day, but because liquid nitrogen evaporates, the tanks are filled once per week, which is what Embryologist, Emma is doing in this image... Now THAT is what you call high maintenance!

16.01.2022 During a time of a global pandemic, its hard to picture starting a family. Whilst its obviously not an ideal situation to bring a child into the world, we want to reassure you and inform you about some things you may have been having thoughts about. Whilst there is still uncertainty, there is no evidence that COVID-19 increases the risk of miscarriage. ... Pregnant women do not appear to develop more symptoms of COVID-19 than the general population. Women should remain reassured, that there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 will harm your baby or cause abnormalities. Its an uncertain time, but we are here to help you. 16.01.2022 PART 2 Convo’s with an Embryologist x EGG ?... WAIT!! WTF is Follicle Fluid??? It’s what the embryologist extracts when they do an egg collection. Did you know follicles are what hold your eggs and keep them safe? They don't just float around solo in your ovaries? But back to Jenni, our Embryology manager and the answer to our question "What you are looking for is the cumulus complex (it’s like a fluffy cloud) and inside that you want to find the cells that outshine the others. When eggs are not yet found you are also looking for granulosa cells (even we had to google this one) which are darker and come from the lining of the follicle and indicate an egg could be present in the follicle So in a nutshell, folks, finding your eggs is actually a sh*t load more complexed than any of us would have thought, they can be found in a couple of different areas AND they float in follicles! SCIENCE!!!

16.01.2022 - ‘Convo’s with an Embryologist’ / ? A normal healthy ejaculate can be expected to have around 40 million sperm (so a lot!). But it varies from person to person.... Not all of those sperm are moving and so what we do is run the sperm through a gradient and spin in a centrifuge (a giant machine that spins really fast) that takes out the other cells and debris within the ejaculate and also the non moving sperm (so everything but the sperm) so that what you have at the end for use with the eggs is a concentrated sample of all the good motile sperm (science-y term for they are moving organisms!). HUH? So basically they seed out all the duds from the good swimmers in a giant spinny machine all ready for your cycle! (I told you we’d have to translate!) MIND. BLOWN! SCIENCE! See more

15.01.2022 The Myth: Men stay fertile forever. The Facts: Men over 51 (this is also the average age of menopause for women) have a significant decline in success with infertility therapies. 15.01.2022 Male Infertility Did you know that 30-50% of infertility is actually contributed by the male? A common misconception, and unfortunately seldom spoken of, is that approximately 7% of men will experience a form of infertility caused by genetics, trauma, low sperm count etc. That’s why at Demeter Fertility, we take the time to test both parties and find the cause of your infertility, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ treatment approach

13.01.2022 2020 has forced upon us a rearrangement and re-adjustment of our day to day lives. For most people, routine is of paramount importance in juggling numerous responsibilities. Although you may be working from home and have your children home from school it is still extremely important to implement a new routine to accommodate for our new mode of functioning. Some tips are: -Go to bed and wake up at the same time as you otherwise would ... -Have set mealtimes and avoid snacking between meals whether due to boredom or proximity of the kitchen to your home workspace -Limit screen time as you would normally. It can be easier to binge watch Netflix or scroll on your phone for hours at a time. However we all know that this is not ideal for our physical or mental health -Make time for exercise! Whether it be a short walk before work or a ball game in the backyard with the kids. -If on weekends you would usually go out to a restaurant for dinner make a show of preparing something that you would normally eat out and is completely outside of your comfort zone. Sushi anyone? -Just because you are spending extended periods of time with your loved ones, spending QUALITY time still needs to be accounted for. #demeterfertility #infertility #ivf #fertility #miraclebabies #health #demeter #inspiration #strength #overcomingchallenges #goodvibes

10.01.2022 A study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that women who regularly ate servings of refined pasta and rice went through menopause earlier, while women whose diets focused more on fish, beans, and other legumes started menopause at a later age. Each daily serving of oily fish, beans, and other legumes that a woman ate was associated with an average 3.3-year delay in the start of menopause. And for every additional serving of refined pasta and rice a woman ate each day, menopause was on average 1.5 years earlier. #dietandconceiving #IVF #fertility #menopause #health

08.01.2022 Until recently, the only way to make eggs or sperm was the old-fashioned way: in the ovaries and testes. In the not-too-distant future, it may be possible to use cells from almost any part of the body to create these germ cells, also known as gametes. This process, called in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), raises the possibility that babies could be made using muscle or liver or blood cells. While not yet ready for prospective human parents so far it has only been accomplished ...successfully in mice it raises major ethical and legal questions that we should start thinking and talking about now. 06.01.2022 PR - ‘Convo’s with an Embryologist’ 's? Eggs and embryos are frozen using a process called Vitrification. This means the eggs and embryos are moved through a series of liquids which remove the water from within the cell and replace it with cryoprotectant which allows the cells to freeze without crystallising (like when water turns to ice). ... The crystallising can cause the cells to crack open. The eggs or embryos are then placed on a device under a microscope in around 1ul (tiniest amount) of fluid and then dunked into liquid nitrogen. Vitrification is often referred to as snap freezing. So what's in this image? These are Mini Incubators! This is where eggs and embryo's can be kept at the right tempreture enviroment of around 37 degrees. Here the embryo can sit and grow or wait to be transferred or frozen! SCIENCE

06.01.2022 Egg Freezing There are a multitude of reasons why a woman may need or want to freeze her eggs. From medical issues affecting future fertility (cancer treatments, early menopause), through to those women who are just not ready to have children in their current life, frozen eggs can be stored for years with little affect on egg quality.
