23.01.2022 Please see our response to the recent Parafield Gardens Cluster outbreak of Coronavirus: Be assured we are monitoring the situation and applying increasing monitoring to our existing COVID Management Plan. At this time our clinic and appointments are operating as normal with an increase in screening vigilance. We ask that those patients who may be travelling from the affected area do not attend the clinic but ring us for directions, and please do not attend the clinic if you ...have any respiratory symptoms and we encourage everyone experiencing symptoms to get tested. We will provide updates as the situation develops and will respond as per recommendations from the SA Government and Department of Health.

20.01.2022 There are many inherited conditions that can affect a developing embryo, most are very rare. However there are a number of inherited conditions such as Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Fragile X Syndrome, Spinal Muscular Dystrophy and Haemophilia that could affect a developing embryo if you or your partner are the carrier of the gene. Here at Fertility SA, we have information regarding the tests available and our team of fertility specialists, nurses, counsellors and embryologists are able to support you through the decision making and the process of undertaking screening. If you have any questions, please call us on (08) 8100 2900.

13.01.2022 We know that the challenges of Father's Day are significant and whilst we still want to recognise and celebrate the fantastic Dads in our lives, this day brings many feelings to the surface. It is understandable to feel a mixture of sadness, anger and envy and that's okay. We want you to know that you are not alone. We hear you, we see you, and we are committed to supporting you. We encourage you to be gentle with yourself during this time. Give yourself space to have all of your feelings on this day. Try to allow for the sadness, as well as the appreciation of others. It is important that you give yourself whatever care you need during this time and if you need our support, we are always here to help. If you would like to speak to one of our Counsellors, please contact us on (08) 8100 2900.

08.01.2022 A healthy baby starts with healthy sperm and healthy eggs. The good news is that the effects of smoking on eggs, sperm and fertility are reversible. Whether it’s the male or the female (or both) who smokes, quitting will increase the chance of conceiving and having a healthy baby. It doesn’t matter how long a man has smoked for. As soon as he stops smoking, his sperm will become healthier. Men who quit at least three months before conception will have much healthier sperm wi...th a greater chance of fertilising an egg, and creating a healthy baby. Quitting improves the chance of getting pregnant. Stopping smoking can improve natural fertility and some of the effects of smoking can be reversed within a year of quitting. Women who quit smoking before conception or within the first three months of pregnancy, reduce the risk of their baby being born prematurely to the same level of risk for non-smokers. Women who stop smoking early in their pregnancy have babies with similar birth weights as babies born to non-smokers. Women who quit before their third trimester can avoid much of the effects smoking has on birth weight.

08.01.2022 Chromosome variation is a common cause of miscarriages which can turn your fertility journey into a painful and emotional experience. Genetic testing enables chromosomally healthy embryos, or those unaffected by a specific disorder, to be selected for transfer during an IVF cycle, increasing the change of a healthy baby. Testing is an option if your fertility specialist has reason to believe that there is a specific risk, or if you want to optimise your chances of a healthy p...regnancy. The following cover the range of testing options that exist: - PGT-A tests the embryo for the correct number of chromosomes. - PGT-M tests for a known single gene disorder. - PGT-SR verifies if there are any structural chromosome rearrangements. Here at Fertility SA, we have information regarding the tests available and our team of fertility specialists, nurses, counsellors and embryologists are able to support you through the decision making and the process of undertaking screening. If you have any questions, please call us on (08) 8100 2900.
