24.01.2022 Beginner toys can often be big and bulky, taking up a lot of room in your house when they aren't being played with. Borrowing them instead of buying them means you don't have to worry about storing them and also means you are reducing your child's impact on the environment. 23.01.2022 Some clarification on the common questions women may have regarding their monthly periods. How long is my menstrual cycle supposed to be? Normal menstrual period can be anywhere from every 21 to 35 days.... How long should my period last? The usual length of menstrual bleeding can range from 2 to 7 days. What is normal menstrual bleeding and what is considered heavy? The usual amount of blood loss per period sis 10-35ml. You can measure this by assessing the frequency of sanitary products changes. For example, each tampon or pad holds around 5ml of blood. So it is normal to soak 2 to 7 tampons or pads during the whole period. Blood loss more than that may be considered heavy (menorrhagia). For example, flow of more than 80ml / 16 soaked sanitary products &/ periods lasting over 7 days. Long term this may lead to anaemia or iron deficiency in a woman and other problems. Is it normal to have clots? It is normal to see some menstrual clots, which are a mixture of blood cells and the lining of the uterus. However, there are medical conditions that can cause large blood clots, that come with very heavy bleeding and pelvic pain. This requires further investigations. If any of the above aspects are outside the norm, a specialist advice should be sought. #menstrationproblems #pelvicpain #painfulperiods #hormoneimbalance #heavymenstrualbleeding #periodgirl #menstrualeducation #menstrualblood #periodawareness #periodtips #menstruationcycle #empoweryourself #menstruationmatters #menstruation #womenshealth #periodproblems #menstrualawareness #menstrualflow #endometriosisawareness @nicolemjardim

20.01.2022 Can you relate to this? Life is so busy that we sometimes get lost in what is important. Health, family and happy moments are the real wealth in life. 14.01.2022 What a gorgeous image Justine has shared of her full-term bump on her 37th birthday! Pregnancy is empowering, nurturing and a blossoming stage of any womans life. She is right in her post to say that in the medical world pregnancy over the age of 35 years old is called geriatric pregnancy or advanced maternal age pregnancy. This unfortunate term is used due to increased complications (eg. gestational diabetes) associated with giving birth later in life. However, the ri...sk profile is individual to each woman, with many over 35 having successful pregnancies and healthy babies. @justine_rawiri_ #geriatricpregnancy #pregnantover35 #fulltermpregnancy #pregnancyisbeautiful #instapregnancy #pregnancycomplications #enjoypregnancy #maternityphotograpy #pregnantbelly #healthypregnacy

11.01.2022 Some great BF tips from @biancamaycheah Hes sleeping 4.5 hour stretches at night now I cant explain how sleep deprived and depressed I was. Every night Id be feeding him every 1.5-2 hours during the night and during the day hed be sleeping 4 hour stretches. Then everyone kept telling me to see a lactation consultant, so I did and she totally changed everything! So we found out that Oliver is only taking in 28-36 mls in total each breastfeeding session when he should... be eating 60mls for his weight. After 5 mins he would fall asleep and do these butterfly sucks which apparently are not nutritious for Bub I thought they were so left him on the breast for like 40 mins per breast. If I pump, my breasts produce 60 - 80 mls per session. This is why hes always CRYING and wanting to feed every 1.5 - 2 hours cause he was still HUNGRY. I had no idea he wasnt getting enough food . The tips from my lactation consultant: 1. Nurse on demand at best 8 times in 24 hours 2. Wake him up every 3 hours during the DAY to feed him (I was letting him sleep through till when he wanted to wake up). By waking him up and feeding him, I am filing him with calories so he sleeps longer at night. 3. Once he falls asleep at my breast and does those butterfly sucks (which are not nutritious for him), I am to do breast compressions on my breasts (massaging lumpy bits and pausing while he gulps down milk) so this forces the milk into his mouth. Im to do this till I empty my breast. This way I know Im giving him a good 60mls. I am then to swap sides and do exactly the same thing. 4. Once he pulls away and becomes milk drunk, I then pump my breasts for 5 mins each side so I am not only totally emptying them, but also triggering my breasts to produce more milk for him every time. 5. As Ive been so sleep deprived, I am to do no more than a 5 hour stretch of sleep myself at night as I still need to empty my milk during the night, which also prevents mastitis this is when my husband takes over to feed him using my bottled breast milk in the other room. 6. Oliver is to do no more than a 4 hour stretch of sleep per night 7. She taught me the proper way for him to latch. See more

10.01.2022 Tips on the best time to conceive during the menstrual cycle. The highest chance to get pregnant is to have intercourse within a day or two before ovulation (release of the egg from the ovary). The ovulation day may vary from woman to woman. As a guide, in a 28 day cycle ovulation is usually on day 14 after the first day of your last period. On average, the female egg survives 12-24 hours after being released, whilst sperm survives in a womans reproductive tract for up to 3 ...days. It takes the sperm few days to travel up the reproductive tract to the fallopian tube, where it meets and fertilises the egg. In other words, if you have sex after ovulation, the sperm will not reach the egg in time to fertilise it. All of these factors create around a 6 day fertile window each month to get pregnant. The general advice from fertility specialists is to have sex every 2nd day during this time. The second picture is ovulation test display, which tests for the LH surge during the ovulation. As you can see the second line is getting progressively darker as the woman approaches her ovulation. This is a good method to pinpoint your fertile window, particularly if the length of your cycles varies. There are many fertility apps that may assist in recording your cycles in order to identify this window. @wishfulwomban #fertilewindow #fertility #fertilityjourney #tryingtoconceive #ttc #tryingtogetpregnant #fertilitytips #ovulationtest #pregnancytest #ttccommunity #tryingforababy #menstrualcycle #fertilityawarness #fertilityapps

08.01.2022 Kids bite issues

08.01.2022 The Australian Dental Association (ADA) published a recent report that raises fears over Australias dental hygiene and adults and children. It was found that only half of adults brushing their teeth twice a day, as recommended. The report showed that women 18-35 year bracket are the most likely candidates to brush teeth twice a day, and it drops off significantly after that. Most children (3/4) are eating too much sugar, which has been contributing to a lot of tooth decay. A...s many as 1/3 of 5 year olds have decay in their baby teeth, leading to extraordinary number of hospitalisations due to tooth decay and tooth issues, which according to ADA is completely preventable. Children 5-9 years are the most likely category to need treatment for teeth issues. As children become preschoolers (ages 3 to 5), most become responsible for brushing their own teeth. Whilst it is a great task to get off every parent's list every day, most children have to be still nagged about doing it regularly and well. This is one of the reasons Australias peak dentistry body has suggested a radical new advice in order to stop the childhood tooth decay: for parents to brush their children's teeth until the age of nine. This is because youngsters dont have the required dexterity until a certain age, and tend to brush only the front teeth. The biggest problem for tooth decay are baby molars, which children have from the age of 2-12 and are hard to reach. Tips for parents to prevent tooth decay in kids: With dental care prevention is better then cure. Your child can start visiting a dentist/ hygienist for a check up from the age of 2.5 years. Have a dental check up at least every year and twice a year if possible. Brushing teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Parent to either supervise the correct brushing technique of a child up until the age of 9, or assist in brushing the childs teeth yourself. Using dental floss at least twice a week, particularly in the area of tooth crowding. Consuming less refined sugar products. Be a good example to your kids of looking after your own teeth well. * * You can find more information @australiandentalassociation @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

07.01.2022 Another article in @bodyandsoul with my commentary about how a routine gynaecological procedure to treat abnormal cervical cells, may negatively affect sexual f...unction in rare cases. Treatment for precancerous cells are not recommended lightly by gynaecologists, but are done in order to prevent a possible progression to cervical cancers. My main message here is that all women are anatomically and physiologically different, and all procedures carry risks. The least invasive methods will be offered first, due to a favourable side effect profile. Large loop excision of the transformation zone (LEEP) / Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LLETZ) procedure is common, and it should be a priority to investigate its effects on sexual function. 05.01.2022 Surrogacy - is an arrangement, where a woman agrees to carry and give birth to a baby for another person or a couple, who will become parents for that child. There are two types of surrogacies: 1) Traditional - in which the surrogate not only the carrier of the baby, but is also an egg donor; 2) Gestational - where the surrogate carries the baby genetically related to the prospective parents. We have seen many examples of Hollywood stars (Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker...) having their children by such arrangements, with ease in USA, but how achievable is that in Australia? In contrast to US, Australian laws limit surrogacy arrangements to altruistic agreements only, and there is a shortage of such volunteers in Australia. Commercial surrogacies, where the surrogate is compensated above what is considered a reasonable cost is allowed in some countries: Ukraine, some USA states etc. In other words, dreams of parenthood are possible, but hard, expensive, and in the setting of international commercial surrogacy, the legalities in Australia may be murky with regards to babys citizenship and parenteral rights. As a consequence, surrogacy, whilst an extraordinary gift for childless Australians, can easily become a legal and ethical nightmare. What do you think about this situation in Australia? Do you think we need a legal reform? #commercialsurrogacy #altruisticsurrogacy #traditionalsurrogacy #gestationalsurrogacy #donoreggs #surrogacyagency #infertilityjourney #surrogacy #kimkadashian #sarahjessicaparker #australianlaws #childlesscouples #artificialreproductiontechnology #infertility #donorsperm #gaymarriage #ethicaldifficulties #australiancitizenship #surrogacyukraine @surrogacybiotexcom & @fetility_consulting_services @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

03.01.2022 Preschoolers can be challenging when it comes to teaching them a good behaviour. So instead of nagging them with lectures, try education through games. For example, the hot or cold game. One child is the Finder and the others are hiding the ball. The Finder opens his/her eyes and starts looking for the ball, whilst the other players shout out hints: hotter or colder, until the ball is found. This game teaches cooperation, and encourages kids to learn how to help each other in a fun setting. #preschoolers #kidsbehaviour #educationalgames #educationalgamesforkids #parentingtips #kidsgames #kidsdiscipline
