23.01.2022 To celebrate National Archaeology Week #2020NAW in Australia, today we introduce Lego Dr. Margaret OHea. The real Dr. Margaret OHea is an archeologist and Sen...ior Lecturer in Classics, Archaeology and Ancient History (Classics at Adelaide University) at the The University of Adelaide where she also directs the Universitys Museum of Classical Archaeology and one of her specialities is ancient glass. I met Dr. OHea during International Lego Classicism Day earlier this year when she gave me a personal tour of the Museum and its interesting collection, which includes a rare Greek Corinthian- type bronze helmet. It was a surprise to find such a wonderful collection of antiquities tucked away in the beautiful Museum there, and to hear Dr. OHeas stories about them some of which she unearthed herself. As an archaeologist, Dr. OHea has co-directed the Pella Hinterland Project in Jordan, worked as an historical archaeologist on urban sites in Sydney, including First Government House and now teaches an archaeological field school in Jordan as part of her co-direction of the ancient Nabataean town of Zoara in the Ghor es-Safi. She says, As a glass specialist working in the Eastern Mediterranean world, it is a great privilege to be responsible for the glass collection in our Museum. The earliest we have are some Mycenaean flat blue beads, probably once sewn onto special clothing for the dead in Late Bronze Age Greece (14th-12th centuries BC), and the most recent in the case are medieval Ottoman bracelets, some retrieved by a survey which I co-directed in the 1990s in the north Jordan Valley There is always something very powerful about University Museums and teaching collections as you can feel the relevance of each and every artefact and what it teaches you. Often there is always one strong piece that surprises you in its straightforward honesty that a big museum might drown out in its grandeur, so its in these small collections you can see these gems of history shine. I highly recommend a visit to the Museum of Classical Archaeology if you happen to be in Adelaide and you can find out more about it here: https://arts.adelaide.edu.au//the-museum-of-classical-arch Welcome to the LC family Dr. Margaret OHea and National Archaeology Week! (Artists note: I have given Dr. OHea an observant yet far off lost in thought face because when she was giving me the tour of the Museum, I could tell she was still problem-solving in the back of her mind while simultaneously enthusiastically explaining the importance of the collection to me).

20.01.2022 Following the latest announcement by the Prime Minister advising on the banning of events with more that 500 patrons we have been inundated with queries about the "fate" of our main event the ZEIBEKIKO concert. As the venue capacity is a little more than 500 the number of tickets allocated so far needs to be verified so we are monitoring the situation very closely. If the concert needs to be cancelled an announcement will be made early next week.

10.01.2022 Pier Paolo Pasolini's film versian of Medea draws on Euripides's play and is now considered one of the great masterpieces of classical cinema. Visually astonishing and much underrated at the time of its release in 1969, this richly complex film presents an entirely new perspective of the myth. At its centre is the extraordinary performance of Maria Callas as Medea in her only film acting role. The film will be introduced by Joanna Tsalikis who will provide a brief analysis of Pasolinis approach to this powerful and enduring myth.

01.01.2022 To say the short films of MAGNA GRAECIA presented today were fantastic would be a definite understatement. The Messinian Association is humbled to have connecte...d with Billy Cotsis and we feel privileged to have had the opportunity to promote his films and the Greek culture at large, which as demonstrated tonight, lives on all over the world. We would like to thank Festival Hellenika for their support and everyone who attended today. We hope you all enjoyed the films and the hospitality provided by our Association. See more
