25.01.2022 After the 2019/20 summer fires our Mountain and Alpine ash forests needed some tender loving care. That’s why we carried out one of the largest forest restoration efforts in Victoria to re-seed our alpine ash forests. We’ve released 4.5 tonnes of seeds out over 11,500 hectares to bring these forests back to their former glory. To prepare for similar events in the future we’re now collecting 7.5T of seeds to be ‘banked’ to enable a fast recovery for any future forest restoration efforts. Protecting our forests for years to come.

04.01.2022 Ignition of the planned burn at Upwey between Hughes Street and Tremont Hill Track is now underway. Tremont Hill Walking Track in the Dandenong Ranges National Park will be closed for the weekend. This 3.4-hectare burn is a critical part of our program to reduce the bushfire risk in the area. Weather permitting, the burn will be complete by Sunday 22 November. Crews will remain on site throughout the night and in coming days to patrol the burn. Planned burning is one of the... many strategies used by FFMVic as part of an integrated approach to protecting life and property from the risk of bushfire. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure operations are carried out safely. We understand that smoke from planned burns can cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. This is a small burn that is not expected to generate large amounts of smoke, but the poor ventilation forecast means smoke is likely to settle rather than be immediately dispersed. We are taking every opportunity to burn while conditions allow, and it is safe to do so. For more information on this burn please contact 1800 226 226 or visit www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns.
