25.01.2022 Todays #MahonySmile is Joshua Joshua sought a second opinion against the extraction of teeth to make room for his dental crowding. Dr Mahony used a combination of an upper jaw expander and a lower jaw advancer, so that he was able to correct Joshua’s deep bite, and his dental crowding without the unnecessary extraction of premolar teeth. 24.01.2022 Today’s #MahonySmile is Zara This case illustrates the benefits of early treatment. When Dr Mahony graduated 32 years ago he would never treat children unless they had all their adult teeth. Unfortunately, this meant a lot of unnecessary extractions. Now Dr Mahony treats in the mixed dentition so that he can develop the jaw and make room for the adult teeth before they erupt. Zara is a classic case of this and she now ends up with a broad beautiful smile and gets all her adul...t teeth. 21.01.2022 Early Intervention of Malocclusion by Dr. Elina Castro and Nada Malik-Karnib

21.01.2022 This Weeks #MahonySmile Is James. James was a severe mouth breather and snored at night. Our early intervention of expanding the upper jaw had improved the airway and also avoided the unnecessary extraction of teeth as part of the orthodontic care. If you have a child who has similar breathing issues with a narrow palate please visit Full Face Orthodontics for an early assessment to improve sleep and achieve an ideal orthodontic outcome. 18.01.2022 This Weeks #MahonySmile is Bailey This young man presented to the practice with a deep overbite and was advised, by another doctor that the problem was due to the upper teeth. The previous treatment plan, offered by another clinician, was to pull the upper teeth back. Dr Mahony immediately realized that the lower jaw wasn’t in the right position and he treated this young man without any upper teeth extractions, but rather by bringing the lower jaw forward using a MARA applia...nce. Both Bailey and his mother are extremely happy that A; they didn’t have to take teeth out, and B; Her son's profile has improved dramatically. 16.01.2022 Todays #MahonySmile is Huxley Huxley is a classic example of why parents should bring their children in early for correction of an anterior crossbite i.e. upper and lower teeth, biting in reverse. By fixing the problem, at this age, we minimise the need for jaw surgery, as the face matures. If you or a member of your family are seeking orthodontics, and someone else has recommended extractions, please always consider a second opinion. 15.01.2022 Todays #MahonySmile was Jack This young man had a severe underbite, as a young boy, and the use of a Myobrace at the appropriate age was able to guide his jaw into a more favourable position, reducing the need for full fixed braces. If you have a child of a similar age (7) who would like to minimise future complex orthodontic treatment please consider the use of a Myobrace appliance. 15.01.2022 Today’s #Mahonysmile is Stanley. Stanley came in for a second opinion regarding the removal of four teeth before he had braces. Using the #Damon system we were to correct his bite by widening the upper jaw, giving him a broader smile and avoiding the need for unnecessary dental extractions. 13.01.2022 Today’s #Mahonysmile is Rachel This young lady had a Class III jaw pattern i.e. a severe underbite. The traditional approach would be to wait until she was older and then perform orthognathic surgery. We at Full Face Orthodontics, however, believe in early interceptive treatment for this type of bite. Rachael was treated very successfully using the McNamara protocol of a Hyrax and face mask therapy. Both Rachel and her mum are extremely happy with the treatment outcome, whic...h has avoided unnecessary extractions and the need for jaw surgery. 11.01.2022 I am very proud to be a contributing editor for the JDO This issue features two conservative treatments, respectively for a severe skeletal Class III openbite and for a case of gummy smile and a deep bite; a Class III camouflage treatment involving differential space closure; and two clear aligner therapies, one to resolve a bimaxillary protrusion with a gummy smile and the other to extrude crowded and rotated maxillary lateral incisors. The full text can be viewed and downlo...aded from the JDO website at: http://iaoi.pro/archive/post/id/341 I hope that you enjoy the issue as much as I do, and that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy, during these crazy times!

11.01.2022 Todays #MahonySmile is Arlet This young lady presented to Dr Mahony with a bad overbite and crowding of the upper teeth. She also has small second teeth (lateral incisors). The team at FFO, in conjunction with her general dentist, were able to improve the smile and then utilise composite bonding to help the small lateral incisors blend in with the wonderful new smile. 10.01.2022 Today’s #Mahonysmile is Alex Alex presented for a second opinion against the extraction of four premolar teeth, as part of the overall treatment plan, presented at another office. We, at Full Face Orthodontics , look at the face to determine whether extractions are required. In Alex’s case the use of the Damon System meant that we could align his teeth, on a non-extraction basis, to give him a fuller profile. Both Alex and Dr Mahony are extremely happy with the treatment outc...ome. 07.01.2022 Today’s #Mahonysmile is Katerina This young lady was told that her only treatment option would involve jaw surgery, when she was older, or the extraction of upper teeth and subsequent retraction of the incisors. Dr Mahony was able to treat her without surgery, or extractions, using the MARA appliance. Both Katerina and her father are extremely happy with the treatment outcome. 03.01.2022 Todays #MahonySmile is Moe Moe had a Class III jaw, i.e a narrow palate and a strong underbite. He’s seen many other clinicians who had discussed removing teeth or waiting till he was older and performing surgery. Using the John Lin technique we at Full Face Orthodontics were able to treat Moe on a non-surgical, non-extraction basis. He and I are both extremely pleased with the treatment outcome.
