25.01.2022 Thankyou Chasing the Essential for championing new Australian indie pop sounds all the way from Connecticut USA

24.01.2022 In early 2001, Richard Kingsmill invited us to record a live P76 set for Triple J’s now long-defunct Australian Music Show. P76 had been a bit of a revolving lineup up to that point and our drummer Geoff who had played on the then-recently released 'Sunliner' EP, couldn't do this one. With a couple of days' notice, I called on an old friend Andy Strachan who was playing with Violetine at the time. Andy knew the songs pretty well but he'd never actually played them. ... After one very quick run-through, we recorded this set. One of the recordings was released on a USA/Swedish compilation called 'Pop Under the Surface 4' (2001) while the other have remained in the vault.

22.01.2022 Sweet Sweet Music blog in the Netherlands has curated this wonderful playlist packed full of power pop gems, all made in the last 20 years - including a song I recorded in 2001, which just scraped in

22.01.2022 16 years ago in the spring of 2004 we made this record out the back of the original Off The Hip record shop in Preston, Melbourne. They were fun times made special with some pretty amazing contributions from my talented friends Mick Baty, Pauly Inglis, Ernie O, Ashley Naylor, Ian Wettenhall and Paul Thomas. http://ow.ly/Bupk30rcHi2

19.01.2022 All the way from inner suburban Melbourne up the southeast coast to the sleepy township of Lakes Entrance. What a fabulous piece of nostalgic magic my dear friend Scotty Thurling has curated here to lift the collective Victorian spirit during these COVID times - and how lovely it is to see and hear a long lost song I wrote and recorded a quarter of a century ago finally released. If you were there, you’ll love this release. If you weren’t, now’s a great time to discover this pretty special era in Australian music history. Still some copies available on limited edition individually numbered CD from the good folk at Sound As Ever - link in bio

17.01.2022 This album turns 20 next year. ‘Into the Sun’ was something of a concept album for me. I was obsessed with making a record that felt and sounded like the Australian summer at the time, and I think I managed to achieve that. It was produced by an old friend Dom Mariani (The Stems/DM3) and his magical fingerprints are all over it. ... I’d always imagined a yellow vinyl release but it hasn’t come to fruition so far - maybe next year will be the year. For now, you can listen to the album on Spotify (link below) or download it from my Bandcamp page. Or, you might be find a copy of the reissued CD at Off The Hip records. http://ow.ly/40ps30qL8Ua

16.01.2022 Here’s a long lost and forgotten track I wrote and recorded with my old band Jericho way back in 1995. ‘Sunday morning’ was recorded during one of many demo sessions we did at the original Birdland Studios in Chapel Street Prahran during the mid 90s. It’s been collecting dust in Scotty from Sound As Ever’s shed for a long time and was recently (quite remarkably) remastered by Ernie O from a second generation cassette for the new SAE compilation ‘Stuck on the 90s’. ... You can download or order a limited edition CD version of ‘Stuck on the 90s’ at the link below - it’s a wonderful snapshot of the Australian indie music scene from the era, full of unreleased gems.

13.01.2022 Pre-sales have opened today for this wonderful collection of rare Australian recordings from the 1990s - including a never-before heard Jericho demo we recorded way back in 1995 at the original Birdland Studios. http://ow.ly/4ghM30r86EO

12.01.2022 These two singles were produced by my talented friend Nick Batterham back in 2017. Both have been offline for a while having some new mastering sheen applied by Ernie O and are available once again on all the major digital platforms - check them out at the links below. 10.01.2022 My song ‘Me & her, the road and our EJ’ from the 2001 album 'Into the sun' has been rated the fifth greatest power pop song of the century by Dutch-based Sweet Sweet Music Blog. Patrick from the blog very kindly asked me to put a few words together about the song, which you can read at sweetsweetmusicblog.wordpress.com They’ve also assembled a fantastic accompanying Spotify playlist, which you’ll find at the above link.

08.01.2022 Around 28 years ago, my dear old friend Bill and I started writing and recording pop songs on a Tascam 4-track recorder in his Mum and Dad’s lounge room down here in Gippsland. We made a few of those early recordings, changed band names a couple times and played a heap of gigs before eventually settling on the name Jericho (named after a Painters & Dockers song) along with some other old fiends Leigh and Geoff. As Jericho, we signed to the now long-defunct Mushroom Distribu...tion Service, toured frenetically, made four EP’s and eventually released a posthumous compilation of recordings through Popboomerang Records called ‘Retrospective 1995-98’, which you can still find on Spotify, Bandcamp and the like: http://ow.ly/baUN30qLuli Here’s a picture of me and Bill onstage in Melbourne 1997. Not long after this photo was taken, we moved on to other things. Bill started his career as a pretty bloody impressive winemaker and I formed my next project P76. They were good times @williamdownie

07.01.2022 Three years ago this month. What a stellar contribution the folks at Live at Spectrum made to the Gippsland and greater Victorian indie music scenes over a pretty short period of time. Big thanks and respect for having us on the show.
