24.01.2022 Due to the office closing for my maternity leave from September to January, appointments are filling up in the months leading up to the closure. A reminder that if you are an existing client, you are welcome to email or mail or your documents through to us and we'll call you when the returns are ready. No need to come see us for an appointment.

22.01.2022 For all my FIFO clients, from 1 July 2015 (2016 tax year) you can no longer claim zone rebate unless your usual place of residence of your home is also in a remote area.

22.01.2022 Good article but there are many rules that can restrict your claim to random expenses. Remember, when the ATO says, "No substantiation required", it doesn't mean they can't audit you for an explanation of how, when and why you claimed those expenses!

12.01.2022 To my lovely clients. Lately, some of you have been receiving ATO correspondence very late. I have been in contact with them directly, and the only explanation I've been given is that the correspondence were defaulted to the myGov accounts, then once realised were then sent periodically weeks and months via mail afterwards. Unfortunately, I was only afforded an apology and a reassurance that it was a random event. My sincere apologies for this inconvenience!

11.01.2022 For my existing clients, you would have received a reminder letter in the mail letting you know of some changes to Fidelis appointment policies. For those who aren't aware: * The Fidelis office is now virtual, meaning that all documents must be sent in and I will let you know when they are ready for signing. * We are no longer available for physical appointments. If one is deemed necessary, I will discuss other arrangements with you. ... These changes have been made in order to make the practice more efficient and convenient for our clients and to ensure that we keep up with current CPA practices. It's also more environmentally friendly transacting with electronic documents, and saving a few precious trees!

It's a free service and all documents will be uploaded into a secure cloud, and is ideal for large files. We're continually trying to make tax time easier and more convenient for our clients. 08.01.2022 While it is possible to now claim your handbag as a deduction, you will still be required to substantiate that it is used to carry workpapers and / laptops etc to and from work. Please bear this in mind before you go out and buy a new handbag for this purpose!

05.01.2022 Theres been a bunch of questions about the new LOW AND MIDDLE INCOME TAX OFFSET announced by the government. Depending on taxable income level, you can receive between $255 and $1,080 which REDUCES YOUR TAX PAYABLE. This DOES NOT automatically entitle you to cash in your hand. If youve paid no tax or are under the tax free threshold, youll receive nothing as theres no tax to reduce. If you have a taxable income over $126k, youll also receive nothing as the offset phases out completely after this amount.
