25.01.2022 Congratulations to Scott Bell, the 2021 Fraser Coast Volunteer of the Year. This is a new category this year, and Scott is a very worthy recipient. Scott is t...he secretary of the Happy Valley Community Association and was instrumental in the protection of the Happy Valley township during the K'Gari (Fraser Island )fires last year. Scott established the Happy Valley Community Association in 2019 and has been the driving force of the organisation. He has been relentless in his negotiations to get Island stakeholders to understand the danger from fire the Valley has been facing. With a determined committee of supporters, he has lobbied to get approval for serious bushfire hazard reduction and mitigation in and around the Valley. Under his stewardship, the HVCA has brought together residents and landowners into a resilient, passionate, highly prepared, and supportive community. Scott recognises that everyone has different strengths and abilities and building on those strengths, he has enabled the township to achieve outcomes that would not otherwise have been possible. When the fires roared towards Happy Valley in December, Scott co-ordinated the engagement of the HVCA with QFES , QPWS, and the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation, ensuring there was effective two way communication from the incident controller, across all levels of government and through to absent property owners concerned for their homes. He instigated regular briefings in the town and ensured written progress reports were issued to all stakeholders every couple of days. Thank you Scott for your hard work, commitment and community spirit.

21.01.2022 MY HOLY GRAIL! As many of you guys would know I’ve been chasing this tailor for literally over 20years. I would have caught 1000’s of choppers over the years, b...ut never managed to land the trophy greenback I’d dreamt of. At 6:30am last Friday on Fraser Island whilst filming with Creek to Coast for BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing that dream came true. The stickbait I was casting got smashed and an unseen fish was taking some solid runs and dragging me down the beach. 5mins later and still no positive ID I had him swirling in the shore dump. Then it jumped. I don’t think I have ever been more stressed in my life. Secretly I had it pinned for a good GT but to see a monster tailor get airborne trying to shake my lure free definitely got the hands, knees and voice shaking! A couple more lunges and the right wave came and I dragged him up the beach. 80cm and 4.33kg A fish I’ve worked incredibly hard for, one I’m eternally grateful to have caught and one I’ll never forget. 03.01.2022 Now THAT'S a sight you certainly don't see everyday over Visit Fraser Island And no, that's not the #SSMaheno Shipwreck either! Located about 4-kilometres no...rthwest of Waddy Point off the east coast of K'gari #FraserIsland, lays the remains of ex-steel steamer, the SS Marloo. Shipwrecked in 1914, she now sits in about 8-metres of water, making her one of the island's best-kept secrets. Have you spotted her before? Gayle Kee spotted the SS Marloo from her light aircraft on a particularly calm day earlier this week on K'gari #visitfrasercoast #thisisqueensland #goodtogo

01.01.2022 It was a bit smokey up here yesterday as the bushfire made it to 1.5km's north of us before the winds died down last night. We could see blue sky again this mor...ning, but as the winds pick up the front is forecast to reach us today. Guests have been evacuated and those due to arrive today have been contacted. A huge thank you to the Rural Fire Service and Queensland Parks and Wildlife services who have a huge amount of trucks, equipment and manpower onsite helping us get ready. See more
