24.01.2022 BREAKING: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dean Claire Annesley admitted at today's online Town Hall meeting that 7 out of 70 course offerings for Term 2 in the faculty have been cut because they were taught by casual academics. That is, regardless of enrolment numbers, the courses were cut to protect the bottom line of the university.... Further courses were cut because of low student demand. But here at Fight Course Cuts UNSW, we think any cut is unacceptable. Since when should students have to abandon the education of their choice because it doesn't draw the revenue? If we continue down this path, there will barely be any Arts courses left in a few years time. The university has ample cash reserves, assets and investments, as well as a bloated executive. Why should students have to pay for the funding shortfall with their quality of education? A full report from the FASS Town Hall meeting to come.
24.01.2022 UNSW is recklessly cutting courses, reducing our quality of education and leaving casual staff without an income. They say they don't have the money to pay because they can't hyper-exploit as many international students. But we know that when UNSW cries poor it is nothing but lies. They have almost a billion in reserves, money they have taken in the name of providing an education only to stash away in the as budget surplus. We call it what it is, profit. We oppose any attack ...on staff and students that attempts to make us pay for their crisis. We call on UNSW: To end all subject and course cuts. To reinstate previously cancelled courses. To end job cuts and reinstate staff with the indefinite continuation of their employment. We need to fight these attacks by the Ian Jacobs and his cronies and do so with a radical student movement that demands justice not only when it comes to our education, but in every sphere of society. 22.01.2022 Follow this handy step-by-step guide to promote the campaign to Fight Course Cuts in your classes! Our special Education Collective meeting this week discussed how we can best get the word out about course cuts during the pandemic and online learning. Luckily students are still getting together for lectures and tutorials, a perfect opportunity to get the word out. We recommend passing a motion in your class! Email your tutor or lecturer beforehand to let them know you want to... take a few minutes to explain the course cuts and get student support. Chances are they will be on board! Fight Course Cuts activists have written a sample motion you can find here: https://docs.google.com//1B4kHbMRIp5yMCxb032JYT9fRS5/edit and here's a sample of what you might say in a meeting to support it: https://docs.google.com//1qEjMkvMPIvEsCw1Y31KiiDfvF2/edit And you can find an email template for contacting your teachers here: https://docs.google.com//1waCLUv49-RdL428MN2hk9OJ4fv/edit

20.01.2022 The very last course in Latin American studies has been cut at UNSW. This popular course was cut while enrolments were close to full earlier this month because it was taught by a casual academic. Subjects like these are vital to maintaining the breadth of options available to students. ARTS2750 is an early casualty of the cutbacks to our education and an indication of what will happen if we don't fight back. Be at Tomorrow: Education Collective Meeting: Fight Course Cuts! at ...12! And come to the Campaign Launch: Fighting Education Cuts! next week!

13.01.2022 It’s carnage over at the University of Sydney. Courses are being cut left, right and centre, leaving some students unsure whether they’ll even be able to complete their chosen degrees. USYD might be setting the pace with massive course cuts, but UNSW won’t be far behind. UNSW expects to lose $600 million in revenue this year and will be desperate to make up for this in staff cuts. Management has already shown itself to be willing to attack students even when times aren’t tough for revenue. Trimesters were introduced purely to increase the bottom line. Students at USYD are fighting back and we’ll be right alongside them.
04.01.2022 FASS "TOWN HALL": NOTHING MORE THAN UNSW PROPAGANDA Activists from Fight Course Cuts: UNSW attended the FASS Town Hall meeting on Friday morning. This was pitched as a chance for students to ask questions, express their views and join the conversation. Considering the university has been so secretive about changes to course offerings this term, we attended to get some answers. We asked via submitted questions why management is sacking casual staff and cutting courses to co...Continue reading
