24.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to Kathleen and Sarah, who join the Fighting Chance team this week as Office Assistants. Kathleen and Sarah have both been through the Jigsaw Academy and worked at Jigsaw as Paid Trainees. Having gained the soft skills and work experience necessary to thrive in mainstream work, we are delighted that they have now transitioned to Fighting Chance. They have joined our Office Administration team and will be responsible for the smooth running of day... to day administration tasks. Kathleen will work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Sarah will work Thursday and Friday. Kathleen comes to us with a varied professional background and loves to crochet in her free time. Sarah is a self-confessed tech enthusiast and avid illustrator and joins us seeking new experiences after four years at Jigsaw. Image Description: A photo of Kathleen and Sarah standing side by side with computer screens and an office environment in the background. Kathleen is wearing a cream and green floral shirt and Sarah is wearing a navy floral shirt. Both are smiling broadly at the camera. There is a white banner along the bottom of the photo with a Jigsaw logo bottom left and a Fighting Chance logo bottom right. #SocialEnterprise #SocialEntrepreneur #SocialEntrepreneurship #SocialGood #SocialChange #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion #AbilityNotDisability #InclusionMatters

11.01.2022 What matters most to #Autistic people and their parents / carers, so that they can lead a 'good life'? What services and supports are important to Autistic people? A #research study conducted by ARCAP in collaboration with Prof. Liz Pellicano from Macquarie University is looking to talk with any autistic person aged over 10 who lives in Australia, and also with the parents/ carers of any autistic person of any age. People can talk with them either in a video or phone intervie...w, or they can write or record (by audio or video) their answers to questions. Participants will receive a $100 gift card as a thank you for their time. Your feedback will help set their future program of research to ensure it focuses on services and supports that are important to Autistic people and their families. https://www.autismspectrum.org.au//priorities-of-autistic-.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to the Avenue Botany team who have opened the doors today to their fabulous new space at 13 Lord Street. It has been a huge amount of hard work but no doubt worth it to see how much the participants are LOVING it!
08.01.2022 Fighting Chance is taking a moment to remind you to ask "Are you OK?" to the people around you. R U OK Day is asking all Australians to learn what to say if someone in their life says they are not OK. By asking, listening without judgement, encouraging action and checking in, you can help someone you care about through a tough time. Learn more about what you should say after "Are you OK?" here:... https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day #RUOKDay #RUOK #theresmoretosay
06.01.2022 Did you know Fighting Chance has an accommodation enterprise? (Soon to be named, watch this space!) We currently operate four homes under an innovative family governance model and aim to open 15 more in 2021. Two of our homes have just celebrated anniversaries - Casa Mia is 2 and Rosevilla is 1 - congratulations to housemates and support teams! We believe that people with disability should have unrestricted access to homes, not just houses. Homes where housemates and their f...amilies choose who supports them, how they want support and when they want support. Homes that are welcoming and don’t feel like workplaces or institutions. Homes where residents are supported to live full and enriching lives on their terms. Image Description: A teal square background with a photograph in the centre. The photo is of Robbie sitting in a wheelchair smiling broadly at the camera. In front of him is an iced chocolate cake. #SocialEnterprise #SocialEntrepreneur #SocialEntrepreneurship #SocialGood #SocialChange #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityRights
06.01.2022 Today we celebrate the start of NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week. The theme this year is: Always Was, Always Will Be. We are proud to share the spirit of this year’s NAIDOC celebrations and embrace the expansive history of this country a history which dates back for more than 65,000 years. This week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.... For more information visit: http://ow.ly/qPw850Cf01h #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe Image description: The background of the image is part of an artwork designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. 04.01.2022 For the 18 - 25-year-olds in our community who have aspirations and goals to be future leaders. This is a great initiative from Children and Young People with Disability Australia which is completely free and online. Check out below for more details.
02.01.2022 Friends of Fighting Chance, The STaR Association is asking for parents of young adults with disability (aged 18 -30 years) to complete an anonymous online survey about their child's post-school experiences. It will only take about 10 minutes and will help The STaR Association and researchers at Macquarie University identify how post-school services for people with disability in Australia could be improved. Such important research! We'd be grateful for your time and insights.

01.01.2022 One of our Avenue Parramatta order fulfilment partners Thread Harvest is seeking $ donations for a crowdfunding campaign to launch an incredible initiative they've created with Parramatta Mission called Second Chance Partnership. Check it out: https://startsomegood.com/the-second-chance-partnership... By donating to their crowdfunding campaign you will be helping Parramatta Mission reach and serve the most vulnerable in their community, plus Avenue will be their fulfilment partner to sort, wash, shoot and tag the clothing donations.
