25.01.2022 This is my team. No $100,000 campaign budget, no PR company running my campaign, just me, a real imperfect person, friends, family and 2 rescue doggos working hard to fight for our fair share! A reminder there's always one member of the team thinking about smoko break #VoteLocal #VotePokarier

25.01.2022 There has been a plane crash at Heck Airfield in the cane districts. Road is closed. Please avoid any travel at all to prevent further build up. Praying for everyone to be okay

25.01.2022 The Northern Gold Coast is home to some incredible War Memorial and ANZAC Day committees made up of local volunteers who put on a wonderful event to respect our fallen soldiers and the sacrifices made for our freedom. This year in the current circumstances, join me in making the pledge to #lightupthedawn to honour our current, former and fallen servicemen and women. We may not be able to stand together as we usually would, but we can still stand united in spirit. #ANZACSPIR...IT Learn more at bit.ly/rslanzacspirit

25.01.2022 The Gold Coast City Council will meet for the first time since election next week. The ABC Gold Coast reported Donna Gates thinks Councillors should 'consider' taking a pay cut. Looking forward to seeing her move a motion at the first meeting next week and put words into action on this, would be good to see our Councillors donate the cut to local charities!

24.01.2022 POKARIER'S PLAN for Public Transport 1. Fight for a new daily loop bus service from Pimpama City to Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Woongoolba, Alberton, Stayplton, Ormeau and back to Pimpama. 2. New high frequency bus route in Ormeau connecting local homes, retirement villages, workplaces and shops, together.... 3. Turn the new Pimpama Train Station into a Hub for new bus routes and fight for it to be fast-tracked. 4. Lobby the State Gov to scrap a Merrimac Station and instead build a new Yatala Train Station to better connect the City with the 40,000 jobs in the Yatala Enterprise Area. 5. Fight for a new Ormeau North Train Station inbetween Jacobs Ridge and Ormeau Village (alternate trains stopping between New North and Old South Ormeau Stations). 6. Increase bus frequency along the current routes to stop the 2 hour gaps between services and fix routes to include services in Waverly Drive (Western Pimpama) and Yatala. 7. Build the missing bus shelters that should've been built in the first place across Division 1. Northern Kids and Elderly residents shouldn't have to wait for a service in the rain or heat. 23.01.2022 This morning, our Northern Community lost a good egg in absolute tragedy. Graham was a well known Gold Coast bus driver and a larger than life, big heart kinda guy. Many of us had the pleasure of knowing Graham who loved his rugby and people. He knew the local kids and teens that would get on without being able to pay by name. Knowing Graham runs a tight ship, they would wait to get on last, each stopping to talk, apologise and ask permission to board without paying. None of... them that I witnessed dared to ignore this process. Graham was all about respect and helping others. He cared deeply and made an effort to get to know all his local riders. He will truly be missed. Rest In Peace big man.

22.01.2022 General waste, Recycling and Green Waste Bin Services will be collected. The City will communicate with you directly if this changes. Ignore the false information spreading. Flick me a message if yours is missed or if you have issues and I'll help re-arrange.

22.01.2022 *UPDATE - Unfair Ormeau Free Fruit Fine* You'll remember my previous advocacy for Damien who parked his truck and gave out 200 CRATES of FREE fruit to young families in Ormeau. Instead of fixing our roads, spraying for mosquitoes, connecting shared pathways, cleaning and improving our parks... Council threatened to fine Damien almost $700 for parking his truck and giving out 200 crates of fresh fruit otherwise thrown out. Damien received that update from Council and they've... deemed what he was doing was operating a business?!?! This is an absolute joke and reflects how out of touch our southern focused city bureaucrats have become down in Bundall. Here are families in need, kids going to school hungry from Breakfast and here's a living Ormeau legend giving out free fruit otherwise thrown away. Council has missed the mark on this 100% and it's pretty disappointing. The person at fault for causing damage to the turf was the real issue and Council unnecessarily overreacted on Damo on this. Thanks to local business All Things Pets, Pool and Produce who came on board when I reached out and offered Damien their private carpark for this in the future. Disgusting that crates of free fruit had to be thrown out in the first place because of this mess. Interpretation indicates it won't be possible either on private property. But Damien won't be defeated and has a plan for the next one! From now until the 28th of March, you have the chance to #VotePokarier - a fighter and a local out in the trenches and on the ground for the past 6 months proving I will 100% be in your corner. With your vote, I'll be relentless in fighting for your fair share from Council!

21.01.2022 Science is incredible! Australia is the frontier for science breakthroughs and innovation. I'll forever support this community and work to foster young people into careers in Science. With your vote on March 28th, I'll establish the Division 1 Science Fair for kids to compete from our local schools and help cultivate innovation from young aspirational scientists. I will also support the creation of a Science and Technology centre in the City of Gold Coast. Who doesn't love paper mache Volcanoes?!

20.01.2022 These are the faces of our frontline heroes right now. When we move onto the road to recovery and we're awarding Australia Day Honours next year, these are the faces I want to see on the awards list. Alongside the people who right now, are on the other end of a lifeline, beyond blue or headspace call convincing someone they matter. They could be talking to your neighbour, your friend, your favourite local business owner, your family. This crisis will have a big impact on mental health. Don't forget to be kind and look out for one another and if you're struggling to cope, tell someone. Don't bottle it up.

20.01.2022 For many locals, young and old, 2020 will be our toughest year. The sacrifices, challenges and harships that will be placed on all of us, will break our hearts in the months ahead. But we must resolve that this Coronavirus will not break our Australian spirit. Be kind. Reach out. Support your neighbours.

19.01.2022 *Northern Gold Coast Crime* Over the past 24 hours we've seen brazen acts of crime across Ormeau, Pimpama and Yatala. The below is a picture sent through of a ute stealing a Jetski from Jacobs Ridge in the middle of the day yesterday! Over the past 6 months, I've been taking our community safety seriously. With your VOTE, I'll roll out fixed and mobile Council CCTV, introduce Council patrols and increase lighting and crime preventative design measures.... Now is the time to come together as a community and nothing could be lower than stealing right now. We need to get these grubs off our streets. If you see this ute around or jetski for sale, contact police.

18.01.2022 Our local School communities do crucial work for our local area. With 85% of households young families, working hard to fight for our fair share of services to support them and the work that they do is vital. I've been involved in many of our school P and C groups across Pimpama and Ormeau and I'll fight to deliver and support the work they do for our kids and local community in Pimpama, Ormeau, Yatala and the surrounding cane districts and coastal villages. #VotePokarier to put raising our kids here on the northern Gold Coast as our top priority. Well done to these local legends for volunteering to better our local community. These guys and girls are our #LocalHeroes in my opinion!

17.01.2022 Polling has now closed for the Gold Coast City Council. THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart for your support to fight for our fair share! To my diehard volunteers, my friends and family, the hundreds of locals willing to put a sign in their yard, the businesses, community groups and sporting clubs who supported our goals, and most importantly, you, the voters of the forgotten North. ... Over the past 222 days we've had some awesome local wins, made some great commitments and helped set the tone and policy direction for the entire campaign here in Division 1. Regardless of the result, my fight for our fair share won't stop here!

17.01.2022 POKARIER's Plan for Koalas & Bushland I'm calling on Council to apply to the Federal Government's Bushfire Recovery Fund to help build a NEW KOALA SANCTUARY in Pimpama. We need to preserve and protect our Country's national icon and do everything in our power following the devestating bushfire season to keep our Gold Coast Koala Population thriving. ... Earlier this year, I met with the then Life Sciences GM, Al Mucci. A wealth of information and understanding of how we can plan our communities better to incorporate and protect our wild Koala population. The City now needs a long-term site for recovered wild Koalas and I'll be fighting to see it delivered in Pimpama with your vote. #VoteLocal #VotePokarier #VoteKoala

17.01.2022 The Northern Gold Coast is tired of being forgotten. The fight for our fair share continues and I made that clear this week. The Queensland State Government, the Minister for Transport Mark Bailey announced 2 years ago, 2018, that work was commencing on the Ormeau Train Station Carpark upgrade. Here we are, over 500 days later and not a single shovel has been turned. ... You can't fatten a pig on market day and this is another prime example of the north being treated as mugs.

15.01.2022 What an incredible community we have full of organisations like Nightlight still doing what they can within the current limits to extend that helping hand to those desperately in need in our northern community.

14.01.2022 Happy Easter Northern Gold Coast! Stay safe

13.01.2022 All Division 1 candidates in the upcoming Council Election have decided to put politics aside for a moment, because our communitys health and safety comes first. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we have come together during this unprecedented time and made a decision that we will no longer be putting our volunteers health and safety at risk by allowing them to attend pre-polling stations at Ormeau Centre. As of today, we are standing all our volunteers down, howeve...r voters can still pick up information on candidates at the pre-polling station and speak with candidates if they choose to. In solidarity, we are also calling on the Queensland Government and ECQ to work together and introduce special legislation to do the same. This pandemic is a one-in-100-year moment in global history, where we need to be looking out for each other above all else. Lets act now quickly and decisively - and do what we all know is the right thing, so Queensland can do its bit to #flattenthecurve and importantly keep our people safe. Please like and share if you agree!

12.01.2022 18 DAYS!!! That's how long it took for a response from Main Roads Director-General about why their key "Northern" Gold Coast Study for mobility and public transport EXCLUDED the suburbs of Ormeau, Yatala, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point & surrounding Cane Districts but INCLUDED the Southern suburb of Carrara as a northern suburb?!? ... Another classic response that doesn't recognise us fairly up here. The North is tired of being forgotten and not getting our fair share. I'll be responding outlining my plan for Public Transport which you can read about in the following link: https://www.facebook.com/108584973832927/posts/216130099745080/?sfnsn=mo

11.01.2022 Grubs have smashed up the local Ormeau All Stars club. I'm tired of waking up to these grubs causing needless damage, we need more Council CCTV to deter and catch them. A Vote for Pokarier over the next 2 weeks will mean a safer and better northern community. It's also the first day of Pre-Polling over here at Ormeau Community Centre and an important reminder of why I've waken up everyday for the last 200+ days to fight for our fair share! Here for the next 2 weeks if you want to chat and cast your #VotePokarier early!

11.01.2022 Tomorrow is the final polling day and 222 days straight of my fight for our fair share. If you haven't voted yet, make the grassroots choice! I have a plan to fix our roads, keep rates low and support local businesses in this tough time.#VotePokarier & put a | 1 | in the top box next to POKARIER. Together, we can continue fighting for our fair share! #VoteLocal

11.01.2022 A very different ANZAC Day this year compared to last. Thousands are replaced with solitude personal reflection at the Memorial and gatherings at the end of our driveway to pay our respects. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. See more

10.01.2022 New Citizen in October First Election Voted Pokarier #1 The support to fight for our fair share and #VotePokarier has been humbling over the first week of Pre-Poll. Come see me tomorrow! ... Your vote will be for a real person. One who has lived paycheck to paycheck, had a loan, been through hard times and was raised in a modest defence force family of battlers. But now I have financial management qualifications, experience in Government, working for the community and holding positions with Non-For-Profits. I'm a genuine local, one of you, fighting for our fair share everyday! #VoteLocal

09.01.2022 *ELECTION UPDATE* After days of delays, we are still awaiting official results from the ECQ and won't know final numbers until probably next Tuesday. We ran a strong, grassroots and low spend campaign that will fall short of winning this time. Leading from the front, we set the policy agenda, highlighted your local issues and rolled up our sleeves to speak directly with you, not at you, fixing hundreds of issues along the way.... *THANK YOU* To my family, friends, volunteers and supporters. We waged a policy driven campaign to fight for our fair share and I thank you all for your support. From those who put signs on fences, to letterboxing, to waving at cars, it all meant so much to me. To the other candidates, Renee, Mark, Andrew and Pat, well done on taking part in democracy and for putting your names on the line. I wish you all the very best for your future. Most importantly, thanks to YOU, the voters. The messages of support and encouragement have truly been humbling, thank you for putting your faith in me. *PRELIMINARY RESULTS* This election will go down in history as the most challenging in a generation. As candidates said weeks ago, the Premier should have taken more serious action and delayed it for postal vote extensions. Right now the ECQ is reporting JUST 56% voted here. If this total doesn't increase substantially (through postal votes yet to be received) it means 10,000+ people didn't vote here from understandable fear of COVID-19. The turnout will likely be the lowest since wartime for our area. These locals who wouldn't risk it shouldn't be fined because the way this election was conducted jeopardised our community. With almost 44% of votes not counted or listed, it's still likely on current numbers that Mark Hammel will become our new Councillor. I have sent him my congratulations and best wishes! He has a big 4 years ahead of him and as a community, we will help him to deliver our fair share here in the north or hold him to account. Mark ran a professional campaign using a PR firm and one of the highest divisional campaign spends in Gold Coast history ($100,286.59). This shows he will have a good understanding of the big economic spending measures needed to keep our city and community afloat through these tough times. A city-wide residents rates freeze and waiver for business rates should be top of the agenda. SO WHAT NOW? I'm not going anywhere. This page will stay in some way, shape or form and so will our campaign to fight for our fair share in the north. We'll share any wins our Councillors deliver for our north and equally fire up when they don't. The north is a great place to live, let's make it even better by fighting for our fair share, together! Again, thank you to the thousands of you for your support and faith. As one chapter closes, another starts. Alec

09.01.2022 *HOW TO MINIMISE CORONAVIRUS IMPACT* During these uncertain times it's important we come together as a community. As stories of violence and unnecessary hoarding at shopping centres go viral, it's important we remember who we are northern Gold Coast and set an example for our kids. Also below is the most up to date and accurate information on the unfolding Coronavirus situation. I hope that you will find this information useful on how you and your family can best prepare to m...inimise the impact of coronavirus. This will be a challenging time, but it will be temporary. Working together is the most important part. The link below will take you to the most recent information from the Federal Department of Health. I encourage you to check for updates frequently either online or the dedicated hotline on 1800 020 080. https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea To find out more information about the economic stimulus provided by the Federal Government, or to check if you're eligible for financial support, click this link below. https://www.pm.gov.au/media/economic-stimulus-package Finally, I have included short clips with information to assist with stopping the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the comments below. Please follow the advice of medical experts and look out for your family, friends and the elderly in our local community.

08.01.2022 Yesterday, I outlined my plan for Council to respond to COVID-19 and it's impact on our local economy and small businesses. I'm pleased to see many of these policies announced today as part of our city's economic stimulus plan to help combat this. After talking these through with many local business owners and the Northern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce, I called for the following measures to ease the economic burden on Gold Coast residents and businesses:... - BAN all council-related interstate and overseas travel for 12 months for all elected members and city staff. - FREEZE rates from any increase for the next 24 months. - REDUCE small business red tape and relax non-critical city regulation action. - CUT rates for small businesses giving local owners a rates "holiday" until the end of this financial year at least. - BRING forward as many capital expenditure work projects planned in the next 4 years and ask for a no-interest loan from the State Government to pay for them upfront. Supporting construction jobs and avoiding a collapse in the industry. - CALL ON Federal MPs for the Gold Coast to ensure some of the thousands of new roles announced by Centrelink are based here on the Gold Coast. It's time to come together as a community and while our fantastic health workers fight to defeat the spread of this virus, our new Council needs to come out of caretaker mode swinging, pushing through these swift and effective measures to help combat the local economic downfall of COVID-19. Let's get through this together Gold Coast.

05.01.2022 **Council Hotline For Potholes** Last week, Jacobs Well resident Sharni hit this absolute shocker and blew a tyre needing a tow truck. She had to cancel her afternoon appointments and the Towy took hours. I stopped to talk with her before taking the evidence needed to get this fixed up. Over the past 212 days I've been on the ground proving how hard I'll work for you. I won't just be another voice that falls on deaf ears of Southern Councillors. I'll be in your corner every d...ay fighting for the basic services we deserve on the Northern Gold Coast just like this pothole. It took over 30 mins to get through to Council hotline to report this as a seriously dangerous pothole that could damage countless cars. The response time from officers was much more impressive with repairs and the tunnel to China was filled in beautifully.

05.01.2022 Local Skatepark Improvements For Our Kids! The North is the choice location for the new generation of Gold Coasters raising a family. 85% are young families and 25% of people living here are under the age of 15. Our skateparks are an important asset for our local kids growing up to spend time socialising and enjoying our community actively. Council CCTV and shade are critical for every skatepark and should've been done. I'll review our local parks and youth spaces and get th...is fixed up. We're still waiting for Council to come up from Bundall and replace a number of basket ball nets worn out beyond repair. Getting the little basics right helps build respect and appreciation for our community. #VotePokarier today, tomorrow or Saturday and let's get these shade sails sorted for sun safety!

04.01.2022 STOP PASSING THE BUCK UPGRADE ORMEAU ROUNDABOUTS #VotePokarier this week and you'll be voting for change, honesty and transparency.... No endorsement from sitting Councillors, no secret successor plans, no group campaigns and no ties to any blocks or mayoral candidates. The buck passing between the 3 levels of Government has to STOP. I'll fight to get our fair share no matter who stands in the way! The Peachey/Tillyroen M1 roundabouts are a perfect example. Years of congestion, bottleneck and chaos but the only action was a blame game and a ridiculous set of peak hour traffic lights. I have a plan to upgrade the Council roads feeding into this State owned roundabout by putting in slip lanes to allow some of the traffic to bypass even using the roundabout. #VoteLocal #VotePokarier to get this done.

04.01.2022 11/02/1984 Dad's first day of service to Australia in our Royal Australian Navy, little did he know he would go on to serve for another 24 years. Today, we pay homage to the incredible men and women who served and continue to serve our nation. ... Today, we pay our respects to the fallen. For they payed the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Those who bled for us, those who cried for us and those who died for us on foreign soil will now and forever be our saviours. Today is not about who we were fighting.Today is about thanking over 100,000 Australian men and women who serve our nation today. We thank them for their service. Today is about paying our respect to over 100,000 Australian men and women with graves now lying in foreign land and who drew their last breaths on foreign air. Lest we forget.

03.01.2022 Great news for the Northern Gold Coast today with the City of Gold Coast budget handed down and some great capital work projects ahead for the northern Gold Coast. Lots more work to do but credit due to Mayor Tom Tate and our Councillors for this fantastic start, it will make a big dent in the transport gridlock of our north.

03.01.2022 Mayor Tom Tate has rightly launched an investigation into an odd fireworks display in Surfers Paradise last night, investigating whether ratepayer funds were used by the Surfers Paradise Alliance (SPA). With SPA getting closed down and merged into a new body, this must be investigated to ensure ratepayers money hasn't been wasted to spite the Council who made the call to close them down. While we fight for our fair share in the North, it would be a disgrace to see our hard earned rates wasted because of a bitter dispute down on the glitter strip.

01.01.2022 As a northern Gold Coast local of almost 20 years, I've seen the area change and grow. I have a plan to fix our roads, improve public transport and build the active transport pathways we need to bust congestion. My top road priorities with your vote will be:... Fix Exit 45 Ormeau Roundabout Chaos 4 lanes for the long overdue Yawalpah Rd Creek St and Mirambeena Dr T-Section Fix Fast Track Western Ormeau-Pimpama Service Road If the State Government wants to come to the table on these roundabouts at Exit 45, I'm happy to work with them about my slip lane plan to take more traffic off the roundabout itself. The State should be focusing on increasing the number of on and off ramps to the M1 in Ormeau as the current system is outdated and not working. A peak hour traffic light isn't fixing the problem, it only makes it worse.

01.01.2022 2020 Local Government Elections With 7 days to go the Electoral Commission of Queensland has changed the last six days of early voting. No handing out How to Vote cards. ... No canvassing for votes. No candidates available to meet. If you would like to help, I would very much like supporters and friends to consider sharing this digital copy of the How to Vote card through your own social networks. Your personal share and support will help amongst the Ormeau, Pimpama, Yatala, Jacobs Well, Woongoolba, Cabbage Tree Point and surrounding Cane District communities. Vote | 1 | POKARIER in the top box Please share
