07.01.2022 We know that preventing injuries is more than just an exercise program. In addition to updating the 11+, a key element of the Football Australia Player Availability Model is the addition of contextual information specific for coaches. 06.01.2022 The best exercise is the one that gets done consistently Understanding that there is poor compliance to the 11+ injury prevention program universally, Matt ...Whalan and colleagues set about modifying the 11+ program to see if they could make a difference on injury rates in football. And they did. They discovered, amongst many things, that performing part 2 of the 11+ program during the cool down that compliance to the 11+ program increased and severe injuries (28+ time loss days) decreased compared to its usual prescription. I reviewed this article, and another by Matt Whalan, for issue 2 of The Learn.Physio Research Reviews. 05.01.2022 A great infographic with all the possible symptoms of a concussion. Remember most people won’t have all of them and some people just have one! This is why - if in doubt, sit them out! is the best strategy for player and athlete concussion management.

05.01.2022 A very interesting new study looking at the role of arthroscopy for the management of meniscus injury. Key findings: At five-year follow-up participants in the intervention group (who had a partial meniscectomy) had a very slightly increased risk of radiographic knee osteoarthritis.....they did not appear to have gained any additional benefit from their surgery on their knee pain, other symptoms or function compared with placebo surgery.... The result of this study suggest that clinicians should exercise caution when considering referring older players for an arthroscopy. It is however important to highlight that this study does have some limitations....It does not include younger people (age range 35-65 years) or those with a traumatic meniscal tear. As a result, the results of this study are not likely to be generalisable to elite players or many younger players.

04.01.2022 Some excellent information here from these legends

Great resource for all working at any level of sport and components are relevant to most sports. Please share with any clubs, teams and athletes that you work with.

03.01.2022 As many are aware, we have been a big advocate for reducing injury risk in sport for many years. Over that time, it has become clear that injury reduction requires a multifaceted approach. One such element is footwear. That is why we have been supporters of Ida Sports boots - designed specifically for the female player. We receive no financial reward for endorsing this boot - we just strongly believe in the concept. Check them out! ... More info here https://www.theguardian.com//football-boots-designed-for-w
