24.01.2022 Cheeky Bella looks a bit sad in this photo- we had to make her vomit after her mum caught her snacking on the laundry.... Luckily for Bella and her family, we managed to get her to vomit back up the offending items- the sock and pair of undies she’d eaten had the potential to make her quite sick! We wish we could say Bella won’t be this silly again, but labradors will be labradors!!

24.01.2022 Poor Dylan had an unfortunate experience with the laundry detergent! Dylan enjoys playing with bottles however, this time the bottle contained detergent which is caustic, and after a lick he injured his tongue! Poor Dylan was rushed to North Shore Veterinary Clinic for emergency treatment and a feeding tube placement! Fortunately Dylan is now healing very well and is due for his tube removal very soon at our clinic!

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the Figtree Vet family to yours. Our adorable friend Rocket sent us some festive cheer in his elf costume- let’s hope he gets some special treats from Santa today for being such a good boy!

22.01.2022 We had the pleasure of spending the day with Banjo recently! As you can see here with nurse Rachael, he really looks after his gorgeous fluffy hair style! To find out more important information/advice, have a chat to any of our wonderful Vets & Nurses and we will happily assist and book your pooch in!

19.01.2022 When even a Vet needs a Vet Acupuncture and Physiotherapy for pets Dr David ward's beautiful Dachshund Strudle had an unfortunate accident, and here is his must read story in David's own words.... Accidents do happen (even to a my own animals)! Recently, my 11 month old long-haired Dachshund, Strudle, was unfortunately too excited to hear my wife’s car returning with ice cream to be aware of how dangerous a car can be and slid into the side of the front wheel as the car par...ked. This collision led to a dash to the after hours emergency centre at North Shore vet, where it was discovered on CT scan and X-rays he had a fractured pelvis. Five days later following surgery of his pelvis, Strudle returned home for his post-operative rehabilitation therapy. Following surgery, the bone takes six weeks to heal and Strudle needs to be confined in a cage during this time. However, this confinement causes muscle wastage, ligament and tendon shortening, and weakness of the hindlimbs. My business, Acupuncture for Pets, considers an integrative approach to veterinary medicine using acupuncture and physical therapy in addition to nutrition, complementary Chinese herbs and CBD Oil to alleviate many conditions. In Strudle’s case, an acupuncture therapy session (15 - 20 minutes) was performed daily to alleviate nerve pain and improve blood flow to the injured soft tissue areas of his right pelvis. He was also given CBD Oil, gabapentin, and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for pain relief, and a Chinese herb, You Gui Wan, to enhance the blood flow to the hindquarters. Following each acupuncture session, Strudle was put through his paces doing physiotherapy exercises to aid limb and joint flexibility, maintain muscle mass and encourage muscle strength. This was achieved using a variety of methods such as Passive Range of Motion exercises, bicycling, rhythmic stabilisation, gentle massage, single leg lifts, and sit-to-stand exercises. Within two weeks, Strudle’s wound had healed and he was weight-bearing well on a walk and had very little muscle loss. He was very strong on his right limb when standing and had minimal pain. He is well on his way to a full and fast recovery with return to normal function. Please email Dr David Ward on [email protected] or visit his website: acupunctureforpets.com.au, if your pet could benefit from integrative veterinary acupuncture or physiotherapy services.

18.01.2022 Kitten up for adoption Hello! My name is Olive, I am approximately 10 weeks old, a female tortoiseshell medium hair kitten. At my foster home I have been making friends with the other cats who I love, and am warming to the dogs. My personality is 20% typically torti (little bit sassy and shy) with the rest of the 80% being full of affection, purrs and endless love to give. ... Olive's adoption fee includes desexing, microchipping, vaccinations and a kitten pack. If you feel Olive might be a welcome addition to your life, please contact us for a obligation free meet and greet.

18.01.2022 This juvenile tawny frogmouth was brought to the clinic this week after being found on the ground. Luckily he was healthy and well and just a little too young to be on his own. He’s gone off to a carer to be raised until he’s ready for release. Tawny Frogmouths aren’t known as the best nest-builders, so perhaps this little one was a victim of some poor architectural work from mum or dad?! We’re glad he was brought in so he can be given the care he needs to head back into the wild

16.01.2022 Stay safe this weekend and take extra care with your pets. It’s a good weekend for being indoors, drinking lots of water and icey poles (you can make them for your pets too!). Avoid walks during the heat of the day (or at all for flat-faced dogs like pugs and frenchies). Monitor your pets closely and seek help immediately if you see any signs of heat stroke
