25.01.2022 How to deal with uncertainty... There is lots happening in the world right now... which places a lot of us (if not all) in a place of uncertainty... Whether its your health, business, job or financial security or relationship (due to being together 24/7). We are all feeling it one way or another. ... Here are the ways I am learning to flourish in waves of uncertainty: 1. Focus on what I can control. There is no point fussing over something you cant control, its only wasting your precious time and energy. Vent and move on... 2. Dont take things personally... business decisions sometimes need to be made, and they arent always a reflection of the individual... which leads me to point three... 3. Trust the universe... if your salary has been cut, hours reduced or youve lost your job the universe is telling you something! There is a better path out there for you! 4. Practice gratitude every single day! Be so deeply grateful for the small things like the luxury to have a smart phone or laptop to be able to read this post... a roof over your head to keep you dry and warm. 5. Keep doing the things that spark joy within you. For me right now its watching the sunrise with my handsome man and fur baby and helping my Mum and other women her age move into the tech industry, theyre literally having a career change in their 50s I mean talk about inspirational! 6. Being present and practicing mindfulness by taking nature walks, meditating and breathing exercises 7. Serve every single day! Make it your mission to impact peoples lives, whether its helping your colleagues, paying for the coffee for the person behind you, disrupting the tech industry with new innovations to make peoples lives easier or writing an inspirational social post. 25.01.2022 Utterly grateful to be able to reunite with my family after a long time in lockdown.

24.01.2022 Three ways to reduce feeling stressed, busy and overwhelmed. 1. Plan out our week every Sunday, set maximum three goals each day and count everything else as a bonus! (P.S I have made a FREE Daily Planner just for you... the link is in my bio) 2. Meditate DAILY even if its just for 5 min... 3. Learn to delicate or say NO. This is an absolute biggie for me, I always find myself overcommitting... and when in doubt seek guidance from your manager. How do you reduce feeling stressed, busy and overwhelmed? Comment below! 23.01.2022 9 Ways To Stay Positive During The Coronavirus Pandemic When the news is all doom and gloom as it has been since the outbreak of the coronavirus its hard for even the most optimistic among us to stay positive. Every single person has been impacted by COVID-19 one way or another, and my heart goes out to those who have caught the virus or have been financially impacted. ... With that in mind I want to share with you some of the ways in how you can focus on the positive so that you have the energy and resolve needed to weather this storm. 1. Limit your intake of news and social media 2. Look to the past and remind yourself of your resilience - we have made it through 9/11, major bushfires and the financial meltdown in 2008. 3. Follow accounts that brighten up your day and unfollow any that make you feel unworthy or stuck in a world of comparison 4. Support your fav local businesses - buy a gift card that you can use to celebrate when the pandemic is behind us 5. Send surprise goodies in the mail - whether thats to your friends or family e.g baked goods or gift cards 6. Take advantage of found time - use the time where you would typically be commuting on a new hobby 7. Practice random acts of kindness - e.g leave a amazon voucher for your uber eats driver or pay for the coffee for the person behind you. 8. Practice gratitude every morning and night - write three things youre grateful for and WHY 9. Meditate daily - whether its 5 min or 20 min, take the time out to just breathe and be present. 21.01.2022 Do ever feel out of place in your job? Like youre in over your head? Like youre faking it and its just a matter of time before you are found-out?... Well, you arent alone. What you are experiencing is imposter syndrome, and its an A-Grade liar. How do I know this? Because I experience it and because my hero, Madeleine Grummet, experiences it. Madeleine is an award-winning education technology entrepreneur. Shes founded two award winning start-ups @girledworld and @futureamp . Shes a mentor, investor, innovation advisor and sought after public speaker. And, somehow, she manages to do it all while raising four daughters. But heres the thing ...all this incredible success doesnt stop her from feeling like an imposter sometimes. If someone as accomplished as Madeleine has these out of place feelings, it makes sense the rest of us would too! It was such an honour to talk with Madeleine since shes been a massive inspiration to me ever since I volunteered at one of her startups, Girledworld, in 2018. In fact, her success was one of the triggers that inspired me to start FIIT Collective! I cant wait for you to hear her story and be as inspired and empowered as I was. 20.01.2022 Have you ever made a mistake that cost money? Or experienced a close call that almost cost you money? I have, both personally, and professionally. So have many people I know. Its not uncommon.... Imagine launching a new business, in an industry you have zero experience in. The potential for costly mistakes is endless. Unless you have someone with the relevant experience to guide you. Thats what happened to serial entrepreneur, Lisa Teh when she was developing her beauty brand 101 Lifestyle. After an extended period of time developing product packaging, her mentor gave her advice which saved Lisa from having 20,000 tubes of toothpaste that were too expensive to sell. Lisa strongly believes if you want to be the best, why not pay for an expert to help you get there. You dont know what you dont know, so why not get access to that information and get you the result you want, faster. And thats appropriate for both entrepreneurs, and employees. If you need more convincing, you only have to look at Lisas list of achievements. She has founded not one, but two businesses - digital marketing firm, CODI Agency, and mentoring platform, Lisnic. She is the co-creator of the 101 Lifestyle brand, a natural toothpaste and mouthwash that is stocked in Australian beauty retailer, MECCA. Plus Lisa is the Editor-in-Chief for Coutouring, a fashion, beauty and lifestyle website, and co-author of 2 best-selling books, Australian Style, and Australian Beauty. We cover all this, and more in the latest episode of The Females in Tech Show. Listen now: link in bio or head to fiitcollective.com/27 See more

18.01.2022 5 new practices I am embedding into my life since attending @tomcronin meditation retreat in Byron. I attended the retreat in the hope to release the mental and physical fatigue I was carrying from burnout. Not only did I release the fatigue, but I also released emotional baggage I had been carrying for years, as well as connected with some of the most inspirational people on this planet. Tom holds multiple retreats throughout the year, across all different parts of th...e world. If you’re looking to reset, boost productivity, have deeper clarity in life, feel greater love of self or simply interested in learning Vedic meditation I highly recommend signing up. My time at the retreat was a rejuvenating experience, I learnt a hell of a lot, and over time will implement more of the practices into my life, but for now, here are the 5 immediate changes: 1. Pranyama breathing for 5 min before meditating 2. Re-introducing my 2 x daily 20 min meditation I fell out of practice when COVID-19 hit. 3. Practising one round every Sunday (combo of yoga, breathing and meditation). 4. Attend Tom Cronin’s Monday night group meditation (as many as I can). 5. Limit coffee intake, and tune in to, and honour the signs my body sends me when I am tired or fatigued. I will substitute with tea (in alignment with my Dosha) or @byroninspired gentle truth green juice. See more

17.01.2022 9 ways I unleash my female superpowers during my bleed. Today was day 1 of my menstural bleed, typically I like to have the day off to honour my bleed and rest my body. However, some months those days fall on a work day, and like today I had a huge customer demo I could not miss. In preparation of my time of the month, and to ensure my productivity and energy levels are as high as can be (whilst honouring this time of the month) I do the following: ... 1) A few days before my bleed I take it slow and rest my body. This means slow movement e.g nature walks, practicing lots of self care, reflective journaling and drinking lots of water. 2) I allow my bleed to flow on the first day of menstruation. After all it wants to come out, so why stop it I also find if I use tampons it only makes my cramps worse. 3) Throughout the days of my menstruation I place my hands on my ovaries and have a deep sense of gratitude for being a woman and having a beautiful gift to bring life into this world. 4) I amp up the intake of magnesium, herbal tea and warm slow-cooked foods. 5) I have a hot water bottle on rotation, changing between my stomach and back. 6) Take moments throughout the day to breathe, be present and journal how I am feeling. 7) I sleep as long and as I can, and ensure work does carry on longer than 9-5pm. 8) I have open discussions with my friends, family and colleagues on how I am feeling so they can best support me. 9) Schedule most of my creative work during this time as I know during this phase I am the most aligned to my purpose. 17.01.2022 What would Wonder Woman do? This is the question Katherine asks herself whenever she sees something that doesnt sit right with her. Its the question she asked herself when she saw an article in the Harvard Business Review titled Four Traits that Keep Women from the C-suite.... She was furious. Puzzled. Unsure why the Harvard Business Review would publish an article blaming womens traits for their inability to make it into executive leadership roles. So, she got to work. She tweeted up a storm, outlining the biases and sexist obstacles that prevent women from being promoted into executive leadership roles. Thanks to her efforts, the article was, eventually, pulled. Katherine can rest easy in the knowledge that when young women google how to make it to the C-Suite, they wont see that article. I have to admit, I got a little emotional when she told me this. Its so inspiring knowing that women like Katherine are out there, looking out for other women in the tech industry. 09.01.2022 Despite continuing to face discrimination across the field, women in tech are constantly finding new ways to upend their industry. Many of the biggest innovations in the world of technology today are coming from women and women-owned businesses, yet their efforts are still being largely overlooked. Here are a few of the ways women are rapidly changing the tech industry: ... (1) Increasing inclusivity: Research published in the Harvard Business Review found that, among Western companies, a 10% increase in gender diversity correlated to a 7% increase in market value. Take IBEX, for example one of Inc 5000s fastest-growing companies. As a black woman in tech, IBEX President and CEO Tracy Grace worked for years in a business dominated by men, Grace has finally formed a team composed of over 50% women. (2) Thinking outside the box: When tech stays a boys club for too long, new perspectives become exceptionally difficult to come by. A mere 7% of employees at companies with strict gender hierarchies reported feeling as though they had the space to innovate, compared with 40% at more inclusive organisations. Dr. Lisa Dysons job was to find a way to solve climate change; not only did she make a huge stride in that direction, she also made a crucial gain in the fight against world hunger. Dyson used her experience with carbon-capture technology to develop a way to capture protein directly from the air and process it into an edible form. (3) Opening up consumer cases: women-run companies can often find ways to connect with female consumers that other businesses cant creating new opportunities for innovation and market expansion along the way. Alicia Chong, the CEO of Bloomer Tech recently walked away with $3 million in seed funding to develop an electrocardiogram bra to help women with heart conditions. New, woman-focused tech offers more chances expanding consumer bases than ever before See more

09.01.2022 Its Monday, yet it feels like Thursday because in 24hours Ill be on the road for a magical week away on a coastal beach in NSW. Its been over a year since I last took annual leave Like a lot of people, I had overseas travel plans yet due to the pandemic I had to cancel. ... Originally I thought I would push through the year, and wait until the boarders re-opened. But as time went by the more I realised this was unlikely to happen, and the more stressed and burnt out I started to feel. I am so excited to recharge my body and soul, and take some very needed down time. The extra bonus is I get to support our local NSW businesses during this tough time. If youre reading this post, and feeling overwhelmed, irritable, tired and rundown, then this is your sign to book in annual leave and give your body the rest it needs. Breaks from work are essential for your mental health, especially during a pandemic. Research has shown that the pandemic has made the average workday 48 minutes longer. Experts at the Society for Human Resource Management have also addressed the issue, saying: Now that work is home and home is work, employees may not properly disengage, making it impossible for them to unplug and refresh. And as a result your productivity drops and youre less likely to produce high quality work I dont know about you, but thats a big NO in my books. See more

I've recently moved into a new team and I'm working on some really challenging projects. Even though its tough, it feels great when I'm able to understand a complex piece of code that I wasn't able to understand before! ? I'm about to start a new role in backend software development and because of COVID-19 I’m working from home. 03.01.2022 Today, Debbie is the Chief Information Officer at @nbn_australia. As CIO she is always careful about how she asks questions, ensuring she asks them in a way that gets great responses from her staff. When Debbie started as a consultant in the tech industry she would listen intently to how executives asked questions; paying attention to the way they framed them, even taking note of the specific phrasing they would use. What she found was that the key to getting great ans...wers is to do three things: (1) Recognise what the person talking to you has said. It never hurts to clarify that everyone is on the same page. (2) Give them context. Let them know why you are asking your question. That way, they are clear on the information you want and know that you are not questioning their abilities. Afterall, no one wants to feel undermined. (3) If you want better answers than you need to foster a diverse, and inclusive environment. One where employees feel empowered to go against the grain or share insights from their unique life experience. It was such a delight to chat with Debbie and hear about her practical approach to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
