18.01.2022 A request to the Fiji Community here to respect and adhere to the restrictions on COVID-19. City of Casey and Hume, Brimbank, Moreland, Cardinia and Darebin has been identified as a hotspot and people are advised that they should not be travelling interstate or regionally, in order to avoid spreading the virus. Casey, Cardinia, Hume are the areas where most of the members of the Fiji Community reside and most of the new cases are linked to clusters within extended families ...in these areas. The limit on gatherings in homes has been reduced from 20 people including the household to five visitors plus the household. So dont not attempt to go for evening sittings etc where people may have died. Fijians of Indian descent or itaukei groups who had organised religious and social gathering should rethink and make amendments. It has been said that the ethnic communities may have not fully understood the easing of the restrictions clearly and didnt adhere to social distancing, religious gatherings and family visitation as there have been positive covid 19 cases in these communities. There is no information yet if any person or his /her family member of the Fiji Community has been tested positive. Stay home, stay safe and restrict your movements over the coming days. Vimal Sharma FMCC.

04.01.2022 Coronavirus shutdown: What will remain open and what will close in Victoria On Sunday night, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced dramatic new measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, including the closure of pubs and clubs. Following a national cabinet meeting with every state and territory leader, Mr Morrison laid out what he described as stage one of social distancing measures including the closure of places of social gatherings. Earlier in the day, Victorian premie...r Daniel Andrews said schools would close before the Easter holidays and declared that only essential operations would remain open after the next 48 hours. But what exactly will remain open and what will close in Victoria? Schools will close Victoria on Tuesday, yet it appears childcare centres could remain open. Whats open: * Supermarkets * Banks * Pharmacies * Petrol stations * Convenience stores * Freight and delivery services * Childcare - Some childcare centres told parents they would remain open but more information would be provided on Monday * Shopping centres * Bottle shops * Hairdressing salons * Beauty salons * There are no immediate changes to Victorian public transport timetables, Whats closed: * Pubs * Clubs * Cinemas * Casinos * Places of worship * Nightclubs * Entertainment venues * Gyms * Indoor sporting venues * Cafes and restaurants will be restricted to takeaway only * All schools will shut from Tuesday. The decision on whether or not to re-open schools after the holidays will be made in consultation with the states Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton. * The AFL season has been suspended and the AFLW season cancelled. * Licensed premises such as hotels (although accommodation can continue running) * The Twelve Apostles * Accommodation and camping at Tidal River within Wilsons Promontory National Park will be closed from Sunday March 22. * 1000 steps/Kokoda Memorial Walk and Lyrebird Track in the Dandenong Ranges National Park have been closed until further notice. * The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden and William Ricketts Sanctuary have been closed until further notice. * The penguin viewing platform at St Kilda Pier has been closed until further notice - fencing is now in place along the breakwater preventing access to the penguin viewing platform. The pier remains open. * Mackenzie Falls in the Grampians National Park will be closed for the duration of term two school holiday period (28 March 13 April 2020). * The historic mansion at Werribee (excluding the hotel) will be closed to visitors, but the gardens will remain open. 03.01.2022 Please follow the instructions issued by the government on Covid-19. We have had more cases in Victoria overnight. This simply means people are not listening. A message to the Fijian community... please stay home, limit your visit to families and friends, get tested if you feel that you or someone around you have the symptoms. Your life is precious so take care of yourself. Heed the advice and do not travel to the covid hotspots unnecessarily. Stay safe. Try to convey the message to the members of the community in your own language. I request the ethnic media here to be more vigilant and pass the message across.
03.01.2022 Best wishes to all our Muslim friends for Prophet Mohammed’s birthday.

02.01.2022 A piece of advice to people in Victoria who are planning to have a religious gathering at their place. Please heed the Victorian Government advice on the number of people who can attend. 5 visitors including the priest/pundit can be there at one time. (This number excludes the household). This means you can only invite 4 people. If you are having a death ritual or pooja, this will mean only 4 visitors in line with limits on public and private gatherings. ... Please note that directions continue to be enforced through spot checks by Victoria Police so do not try to act smart. Victoria Police can issue on the spot fines of up to $1,652 for individuals for refusing or failing to comply with the emergency directions. You should use common sense and stay home. Please do not invite people unnecessarily to your homes. Also avoid or limit your movements in the hotspots where active Covid-19 cases are. People living in the indicated hot spot areas should also not travel unnecessarily to other places.
