25.01.2022 The Fijian Community Association FNQ would like to announce the successful approval of our ongoing partnership with the QLD Department of Education under the Skilling Queenslanders for work initiative. The Our Youth Our Future project application for 36 candidates contract was signed and returned this week. Applications for people within our community will be open after the AGM on Friday night. We are so proud to have been identified and offered long term 2 year contract by... the department. This is a huge achievement for a small team made up of volunteers. Our community is blessed to have such dedicated members that share a vision that a strong community starts with investing in our youth. If you would like to find out more about this project please leave a comment on this post and we will reach out to you, alternatively you can attend our AGM this Friday 7th Feb at the ARC centre on Little Street starting at 5.30pm. Born Patrick Joseph Swann on 29/6/29 in Levuka, Fiji to Edward Swann and Luisa Feoko of Yaroi, Matuku, mataqali KETEIJILIVA. He came to Mossman in 1950 , married Isabella Ravina and had four children. His family live in Mossman. 09.01.2022 As a community we understand the challenges and disadvantages faced by school leavers as they try and enter the workforce. We are happy to commence our driver training program this year as part of Our Youth Our future project. This year we have 360 hours of mentoring to deliver in Cairns and here are a couple of very lucky participants appreciating the opportunity to build on their L hours.

This has been directly attributed to the COVID-19 restrictions. We will postpone the event until further restrictions are scheduled to change in November. 09.01.2022 The last group for our Cairns Our Youth Our Future (OYOF) project wraps up. The Fiji Community Association would like to confirm the commencement of the Townsville OYOF project for 18 lucky individuals looking to kick start a career in the drilling industry. Successful participants will achieve RII20915 Certificate 11 in Drilling Operations, HLT AID 003 Provide First Aid, RII SS00034 Coal Surface Mine Skillset (Standard 11), including 10 hours of driver mentoring for those w...ho are on their learners. The first practical hands on drilling training is scheduled for 22nd June. 09.01.2022 Good morning friends and families, We are holding a community barbecue this Saturday 7th of March 2020. The barbecue will be held at the Esplanade from 3pm. Please bring your own barbecue to cook and enjoy the evening. The barbecue will be a gold coin donation towards our community emergency fund and a chance to talk to the committee members about the progress of the association. It'll be a good chance to enjoy some yaqona and watch the sunset and swim in the lagoon. We look forward to seeing you all there.

08.01.2022 Good morning to our Cairns families and community, The committee has met recently and decided that the Fiji Day celebrations this year will go ahead on the 10th of October. We are canvassing a couple of venues for a community and family fun day. We are hoping to lock the Aeroglen community hall and touch football grounds for the day.... Activities Please plan to bring a touch and volleyball team for this fun day. Food The committee will provide food for lovo and refreshments however bring a plate if you like to share. Time We plan to start touch and volleyball activities at midday with dinner and evening entertainment around 7pm on the 10th October. A COVID plan will be developed and shared before the event. This is the first initiative undertaken by our community group in support of the Townsville Fijian community. The project aims to offer 18 fully funded training positions to friends and families of the Townsville Fijian community. Successful participants will achieve their Standard 11 mine generic training,... Please read the below measures to the Coronavirus Pandemic as aligned by the Australian Federal and State Government. Domestic Travel (travel within Australia by road, air, rail or sea). All people who arrive in Queensland from Wednesday 25th March 2020 midnight (AEST) are required by the Queensland Government to self-isolate for a period of 14 days RFNS Savenaca is ...scheduled to arrive in Cairns on the 5th April 2020 and will depart Cairns on the 9th April 2020 Therefore, the crew of RFNS Savenaca will be self-quarantined and remain on-board the vessel for the duration of their visit. Visitors are strictly not allowed on board the vessel while in quarantine. This high degree of caution is for the protection of the crew and their families and also for our own well-being. 06.01.2022 The Cava family would like to thank the Cairns Fijian community for their warm messages for our recent loss. We would also like to inform you of our gratitude for the donations that was kindly received from Vili on behalf of the community. Our family has decided to forward the money to assist our relief efforts for those in Matuku who need help after the devastation of cyclone Harold in the last couple of days. Thank you Mark Halliday who found this in his uncles (Terry) belongings and thought of contacting our community. Terrance O’Loughlin who worked for BNSW (Bank of NSW)which is now Westpac returned to Australia in the 1990s. It’s wonderful to be able to share the excitement as Fiji prepares to celebrates a truly special occasion....
