25.01.2022 Consistency. What does it really mean? And how come it feels like forever when you stick to something for a solid 7 days!! I don’t really have the answer to the second question/statement because I agree it does feel like forever when I’ve stuck like glue to my program (in any shape or form) for a solid week. I admit to feeling like I deserve something for being so damn good! In food/nutrition/diet terms this is a big problem. Because 7 days does not a ‘consistent’ label e...arn. In fact, without trying to be disrespectful or disheartening, 7 days of anything is not going to make a long-term difference to just about anything. Ouch. It’s a long-term consistent approach that allows you to veer off your given path without drastic changes occurring. It’s sticking to your plan within reason!! month in and month out over the year that determines a big food indulgence over Christmas won’t be but another day in your festive season and nothing you can do in that day will hurt more than your belly for the night!! So I guess the message is two-pronged; 1) If you are a consistent eater and you treasure your healthy nutrition for the most part over a long period of time, festive occasions are nothing to fear and should be welcomed in any way you see fit to welcome them. No warnings necessary because the long and consistent approach already signals the value you put on your diet. 2) If consistent to you is a 7 day starvation diet, or god forbid a month on dehydrated diet muck that gets delivered fresh to your door, or maybe even one solid 12 week challenge it may not come as any surprise that indulgence over Christmas runs you off your track for a while (generally until you feel so shitty and bloated that you vow to all that you are jumping onto yet another quick-fix program) and one indulgence blends into another. Which category do you fit into?
22.01.2022 It doesn't hurt to remember something pretty interesting - your food choices do NOT make you a better, more worthy trainee, competitor, bodybuilder. They don't. You might think they do, but they don't. They are your choice. Be careful of feeling self-righteous due to your own choices. I've done it before and I just looked like a wanker.

18.01.2022 Have to give a plug for Les Mills Sprint class. For someone who avoids group fitness at all costs - it was a gruelling but brilliant hit of interval cardio. Fitness Works instructors did a fab job and I'd fully recommend.

16.01.2022 Nothing Too Interesting - Just Felt Like Writing!!
14.01.2022 Sometimes you (me!!) have to try something twice to really be sure if you like it or not. So tonight was the night. To set the scene, some 3 years ago I ventured down the pre-workout track. It's a path well worn and I was jealous of those gym fanatics who raved about The Pump!!! I wanted in!! I wanted the super-dooper-extra-special head thumping, teeth grinding PUMP that would make me a freakin beast in that gym!!! I needed in on this!! So I took a bloody good scoop of 1MR. G...RRRRR!!!!! Beast Mode!!! Gainz with a 'Z' comin my way!!!!!!!! YEAH BABY!! Unfortunately all it did was make me cry. I prayed to feel "straight" again and it put me off my workout completely. I think I even had a nana-nap to get rid of the thumping headache. But that was then and this is now!!!! Tonight I did it!! I went on that ride again!!! I threw caution to the wind and popped a whole sachet of blue raspberry pump into a glass of nice cold water and I skulled the whole lot down!!! I then thought hard-arse thoughts!! I made a hasty decision not to dry the dishes before I went to the gym and I told the kids they could make their own lunches!!! Oh Yeah!!! This stuff rocks!! I'm kicking goals all over the show!! I arrived at the gym and put on the hardest-arse podcast I could find and I rocked down to a talk about achieving symmetry!!! Time to rock this place and I was all pumped up and ready to roll. Unfortunately I started feeling like I had rolled in a paddock of bindis (that's prickles for my NZ friends!!)and my arms, legs and cheeks had a creeping feeling of a thousand needles being inserted in them. I didn't lift heavier. My mood got worse and a creeping headache wormed it's way into my forehead. I'm home now. I'm over shitty pre-workouts and it's certainly not a ride I'm going on for a third time. As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to have find The Pump elsewhere.

13.01.2022 Observation: there have been a number of celebrities who, over the years, have made a big fuss of being happy with their curves and wishing the world would just accept them as they are. Then, for no apparent reason, they suddenly pop up with a new and "improved" body and proceed to spout off about how much better they feel and how glad they are to have shed their winter coat. Leading their poor followers to realise that they didn't love their curves at all.. or so it seems. This phenomenon is alive and well within the bodybuilding world too. Sadly.

07.01.2022 Some things are just too good not to share. I found this little gem today and it truly just makes me smile..... "I'm doing intermediate fasting to lose my weight. It's been going pretty well. I would eat all my calories in a 2 to 3 hour period. General at night before I go to bed. I'm trying to stay under 2000 calories a day. Most days I would be around 2200. Anyway, a few times a week, I would go on a big binge and eat 3300 to 5000 calorie binge on food. When I wake up in the morning, I would shit it all out and still drop more in weight. Is this normal?"
05.01.2022 Two Trivial Truths It's advisable to wear glasses when reaching into the pantry for just about anything. On Tuesday, I had a nice big splash of Red Paprika on my oats instead of Cinnamon. Truth #1: Cinnamon tastes better on oats than Paprika.... If your plan calls for 1/2 an apple and you blur the halfway-line in favour of Day 1's portion - Day 2 really suffers. Truth #2: Halfway is halfway - or you suffer the next day.
