07.01.2022 Market Update: ASX: Plenty of profit taking going on towards the back end of this week, with once again heightened speculation that the US Fed will begin tapering their generous bond buying/stimulus program. ... Qantas: The iconic Australian airline, best known for the flying kangaroo painted on the tails of their fleet, announced this week an expected 6 month loss of up to $300m. This has sparked intense speculation as to the on-going viability of the airline, with perhaps the only way out now is through Federal Government assistance. Qantas share price dropped 11.2% on the day of the announcement, being Thursday this week. Many calling for Alan Joyce (CEO) to step down from his posting. We will keep you updated on the progress of this matter! Holden: Another iconic Australian brand, are believed to be divesting from all Australian production by 2016 or 2017. This is yet to be officially confirmed but it would certainly result in considerable job losses; represent a major hit on Australian manufacturing; and signal the end of an era for Holden Australia. Industry commentators are predicting that if Holden were to exit their Australian manufacturing plants, this may also affect Toyota as many suppliers will be forced to shut down.
