19.01.2022 JOBKEEPER PAYMENTS You may be aware, the Australian government just announced that it is intending on providing a wage subsidy to businesses significantly affected by COVID-19 called a JobKeeper payment. This payment is yet to be legislated; however, this is how the government has explained it:... The payment will be paid to employers, for up to six months, for each eligible employee that was on their books on 1 March 2020 and is retained or continues to be engaged by that employer. Where a business has stood down employees since 1 March, the payment will help them maintain connection with their employees. Employers will receive a payment of $1,500 per fortnight per eligible employee. Every eligible employee must receive at least $1,500 per fortnight from this business, before tax. The program will commence today, 30 March 2020, with the first payments to be received by eligible businesses in the first week of May as monthly arrears from the Australian Taxation Office ELIGIBILITY Eligible employers will be those with annual turnover of less than $1 billion who self-assess that have a reduction in revenue of 30 per cent or more, since 1 March 2020 over a minimum one-month period. Eligible employers include businesses structured through companies, partnerships, trusts and sole traders. Not for profit entities, including charities, will also be eligible. Full time and part time employees, including stood down employees, would be eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment. Where a casual employee has been with their employer for at least the previous 12 months they will also be eligible for the Payment. An employee will only be eligible to receive this payment from one employer. Self-employed individuals are also eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment. You are able to register your interest so you can receive updates as they become available:- https://www.ato.gov.au/general/gen/JobKeeper-payment/

19.01.2022 Small Business CFO (Chief Financial Officer) You may have heard the title CFO used in big corporations but did you know that small businesses can benefit from a CFO as well? A CFO can be of incredible value for a business’ long-term strategic planning and daily operational activities. However, for small and micro businesses it can seem like a big expense. ... But here is the thing - you can engage the services of an outsourced or off-site CFO and still get all the benefits of high-level financial expertise without the big price tag or commitment. In essence you are able to share the costs of a full-time CFO amongst several businesses whilst still getting the assistance your business needs. Some would even say that an outsourced CFO gives you even more benefit as they are consistently working with a range of businesses and are therefore always at the forefront of new innovation and knowledge. In addition, they are an impartial party without the constraints of an employee who can take a holistic approach to strategy and problem solving for your business. Grace Mugabe has worked with many businesses ranging in size as well as industry and has garnered a high level of expertise when it comes to strategy advice, financial forecasting, budgeting and accounting acumen. The role of Chief Financial Officer is something she finds more and more in demand and one of her areas of expertise in small business. Want to find out how a small business CFO can assist you in your business? Get in touch today

17.01.2022 Here is a simple 3-step process that you can work through to reassess and strengthen your financial position during these trying times. Review your services and products: ask yourself - what can be changed to suit the current environment (going online, creating evergreen content or changing the processes), what can you continue to provide and what do you have to let go of, what else can you add in to encourage an injection of cash into your business? Review your outgoings... - where can you start to trim expenses that you no longer need or can do without temporarily? Assess your position - Redo your forecast and be realistic. Look over each of the possibilities you can change and assess the bottom-line impact each will have as well as any risk you face in the future. Try and remove emotion from your decision, which is probably the most challenging thing. Remember, you are doing what is in the best interest of the business.

05.01.2022 I thought I'd share just a few questions to ask yourself to help be mindful as you go about your Christmas shopping this month. - Can I afford this? - Is this an impulse purchase? - Is this something I (or the person I'm buying this for) need and will use?... Maybe you look for a more sustainable alternative, perhaps you bake some homemade treats to give as a present, or maybe you have done so well at saving this year that you are doing to take advantage of the sales to buy something you need! Remember to be mindful as you spend shop. Avoid getting into debt. If you don't have the cash, you can't afford it.

03.01.2022 Don't depend on a single income. Invest to create a second income.

03.01.2022 SETTING LONG TERM FINANCIAL GOALS Financial goals are at the crux of all good planning, after all, it is difficult to achieve many things without the budget behind it. I believe everyone should have sustainable financial goals in place and a budget underpinning it.... There is such variety in the types of goals you can set, and time is one of the biggest determinators. The goals that you can set to complete today are very different to the goals you can achieve in a year. However, all the goals we set should have some consistency. For example, if you want to save $5000 by this time next year but your short-term goals include spending money on up leveling your business knowledge, you may find that saving goal challenging. Think about: If my short-term goals are successful what impact does that have on my long-term goals? What do I need to do today, this week, this month in order to achieve my long-term goals? Go beyond the year and look at what you are reaching for in the next 5 10 years Do you consider long term financial goals in your planning?
