11.01.2022 Success! https://www.broadsheet.com.au//photo-booth-will-live-flind The never-ending banal onslaught to make everything beige and eradicate all character and... history from our daily lives continues...FLINDERS STREET PHOTOBOOTH now under threat. Corporate thuggery has given Alan 10 days to vacate the site Metro wants to remove the iconic B&W analog Photo Booth that a man named Alan Adler has been operating for 46 years (and bought the one that was there for 10 years before so the station has had a booth there for over half a century). This Photo Booth has been enjoyed by generations of people and Metro staff gave Alan 10 days notice to remove the booth with no promise of any return as they renovate some of the station. Alan has a truly remarkable story I learned this morning catching up with him operating up to 16 photo booths around Melbourne for 46 years. In a weird way could be one of Australia's most prolific photographers, even though there is no film negative or proof of his work Alan’s booths have shot over a million portraits of Melbournian's over 46 years the city, fashion, culture and everything in between evolved around it. In this entire time he maintained and runs these machines to this day as a man in his 80’s. This machine located at Flinders street is truly a cultural, historical and romantic gem Melbourne needs to preserve as these analog photo booths are among a handful left with not many operating around the world; it truly is something worth protecting. As you can imagine he is pretty upset as this is something he has worked on tirelessly for so long as a passion, hobby, dying art form and his income as an elderly man. I've contacted some media sources but more help always needed if anyone has TV station contacts or this should be something the council should embrace and support a permanent location at the station as a unique piece of heritage and it is in their interest to keep as a part of the stations identity. The best course of action I feel is if people and write to metro’s website & call. I don’t feel petition websites do anything? http://www.metrotrains.com.au/customer-feedback/ 1800 800 007 I've heard since writing this that metro has panicked after broadsheet contacted them but let's keep the pressure on Alan would really appreciate it.
