23.01.2022 With the Government planning to "UNFREEZE" the excise tax on fuel, we are all set to pay more for fuel as the price will rise twice a year. But not only will we... pay more for petrol, we will also pay "more" for everything else that requires fuel.... So groceries, restaurants, fresh fruit & vegetables, clothing etc etc...... everything is about to go up! See more

03.01.2022 Media release Privatisation is just a government cash grab: Hans Paas Palmer United Lead Candidate for the Victorian Legislative Council Northern Victoria Regio...n, Hans Paas, has slammed privatisation of state assets as nothing more than a government cash grab at the public’s expense. With privatisation the economic model becomes nothing more than profiteering for the big end of town, instead of the provision of essential public services at an affordable price it, Mr Paas said. The demise of the State Electricity Commission (SEC) during the Kennett years shows exactly what happens when the focus changes from providing a service to making money. The current gaggle of private electricity generators are doing everything they can to remove the Renewable Energy Target (RET), because if more power is generated by wind and solar their profits decline. This is despite the fact that the supply of renewable energy means cheaper power for customers. At the same time as consumer demand is dropping the power companies are claiming back extra costs for improving the network and telling us they have to do this because of increased demand. Similar problems have arisen in many other privatised service sectors such as rail transport, natural gas and water supply. For politicians of the old parties it has the added attraction of taking the ministerial responsibility for the performance of these services as far away from them as possible. That leaves them to launch projects and cut ribbons, then duck for cover when the services teeter on the edge of collapse. Palmer United is absolutely opposed to privatisation and our balance of power team in the Legislative Council will be working hard to restore essential services to public ownership and control wherever possible. I challenge any Labor or Liberal politician to find one privatised service that is cheaper and better for all Victorians.
01.01.2022 Joe Hockey thinks the $7 co payment is not an issue for families as 7 bucks is one third of the cost of a packet of smokes and it is the equivalent of a couple ...of beers WELL I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU JOE HOCKEY! Some people experience financial difficulty for a short while and others endure for a much longer period of time. Whether we endure financial difficulty for a week, a month, a year or a life time, This $7 co payment will be the difference between seeing a doctor and not seeing a doctor for many families across the country. While it may be ok for Mum or Dad to put off seeing the doctor until next payday what about when the kids are sick and payday is still a few days away? Are parents expected to neglect their children.. perhaps surf the internet for home remedies Maybe head off to the hospital and put greater strain on emergency services because a child needs to see a doctor and the family G.P. is $7 out of reach. The hypocrisy of this $7 payment is this $5 goes to medical research (which is a wonderful thing) but the research may result in cures and treatments that some will not be able to access because they might not have the $7 to go see the G.P. I am disgusted with the whole concept of $7 co payments if they wanted to save the health budget a few bucks they could look at cutting medicare off at $180,000 of income. But then again that would not go down terribly well with many of the people that the LNP stand for. For Hockey to compare $7 as being a third of the price of a packet of smokes or the equivalent of a couple of beers is an absolute insult. How about we compare $7 this way. Considering Hockey’s parliamentarian salary is about $365,000 a year, or $1000 per day. or $42 per hour.. Lets cut to the chase, for Joe Hockey $7 is 10 minutes and that 10 minutes might be 10 minutes spent smoking cigars, eating at fancy luncheons, visiting overseas countries, sleeping it could even be earned while he makes a visit to the bathroom. So yes l understand that in HOCKEYS WORLD 7 bucks is not much, but to many Everyday Australians $7 is the difference between nappies or fuel, Milk & bread or a box of cereal. My advice to Joe Hockey, the next time you want to make assumptions about what $7 means to typical Australians....... TRY ASKING ONE
