21.01.2022 Serious people don’t have challenges, they have problems to be solved... ‘Challenge’ is a word used to make people feel better. When in truth, it’s an overly cautions (polite) way to describe an issue. Oh, it’s a challenge for me, I finish at six, then have to go home, shower, and then be there by eight... it’s such a challenge... ... Oh, poor you. I have a problem. I don’t finish work until seven and it starts at six. You need a solution... Problems are for serious people, challenges are for people with mild inconveniences! Stop letting people tell you that problems are too negative! That is their problem! (See what I did there!) Problems require solutions, where challenges don’t. You don’t need help to work on a challenge, you just need to get on with it. Just as there is a difference between ‘I want to have a beer...’ and ‘I NEED to have a beer...’ I hear people complain that Problems are negative, they are insurmountable... The truth is, your employees would work just as hard, if not harder than you IF... You actually had them working on the right things! How do you implement it? 1. Change your thinking Stop running from problems. Problems aren’t insurmountable mountains; and stop confusing your symptoms for problems. Losing a client isn’t the problem to be solved; WHY you lost the client is the problem to solve 2. Define your goals based on your problems NOT your symptoms. Why do you need more revenue? Not making enough profit. Why are you not making enough profit? You are leaking money. Should you focus on more revenue? More profit? OR fix the leaks? 3. STOP working on everything else afraid you’ll lose face? Stop a project that you know is not focused on a real problem and see what happens (hint; you’ll lose more respect if you DON’T) 4. Focus all your attention on the tasks and projects that WILL solve the problems 5. Celebrate YOUR success Success is a measure of how far you have come from your starting point.
