23.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year’s theme, Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story did not begin with documented European contact a few hundred years ago. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples over 65,000 years ago. NAIDOC 2020 is about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nat...ions’ 65,000+ year history of this country. There’s lots of ways to get involved both online and in the community. Find out what’s on in the Cessnock area on the Cessnock City Council NAIDOC page, look at all events happening across Australia (including many online events), or check out NAIDOC on Facebook or Instagram for information about other initiatives being rolled out as part of NAIDOC Celebrations.

21.01.2022 Charles Bean landed with the Australian troops on Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. He stayed with them at the front through the entire war, refusing evacuation when he was wounded. At Pozieres the following year he was witness to 23,000 Australian casualties in just six weeks. A dying Australian asked him, Will they remember me in Australia?". We are calling on all Australians to remember them by observing one minute's silence at 11 am on the 11th of November for Remembrance Day.... By observing one minute's silence we pay tribute to the men and women who have served and are still serving in our defence forces and remember those who have died or suffered in conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations. This Remembrance Day, share who you are remembering on social media using the hashtag #WeRememberThem Photo via Australian War Memorial
