25.01.2022 GRASS SEED SEASON ALERT Spring and Summer means fun outdoor times for many Australian families and their canine companions. Unfortunately with beautiful wea...ther comes rapid growth of vegetation meaning grass seeds are out and about!... YAY These little suckers can cause lots of pain and suffering to our pets and their owners, they have a sharp tip enabling them to pierce the skin easily and can migrate through the body often bringing infection with them. Wherever they end up they cause pain and inflammation. You might see your pet licking at its feet, suddenly starting to cough or sneeze, have a sore, mucky eye or have a painful swelling between the toes or under the skin. Generally the problems do not go away unless the grass seed is removed. If you notice any of these symptoms, PLEASE call your vet clinic for further investigation Common areas grass seeds are found: Paws: Grass seeds can lodge in between the toes and cause inflammation and abscesses. If left untreated the dog may find it difficult to rest weight on the affected foot. Ears: Grass seeds can lodge themselves firmly in the ear canal and cause soreness and chronic inflammation, and may even rupture the eardrum. Eyes:Grass seeds can easily lodge in the eye when your dog rummages through the grass fields. In severe cases they can even cause the cornea to tear and may cause blindness. You can protect your babies from grass seeds from: -avoiding running your dog through long grass -discouraging your dog from chewing grass -checking your dog’s feet after each walk especially between the toes -checking the fur around the opening of the ears -consider clipping around feet, ears and belly on long-haired breeds.

24.01.2022 Here are some pictures of our playful, happy, excited fur babies in socials yesterday Yes, it is very hard to get still pictures of them all

24.01.2022 We have had this in the pipes for a little while, but we are so excited to finally be able to say YES, we have Zip Pay available in the practice! We always look for ways that we can help to make vet care as affordable as possible, and with the current state of the world, we really wanted to be able to offer more. Zip Pay has no minimum contract amount and is interest free for all contracts <$1500. Just download the app on your phone to get yourself signed up :)... VetPay (another finance option we have offered for many years) is still available and is especially helpful for larger contracts. (We are brand new to being on the merchant end of Zip Pay... so your patience while we learn will be greatly appreciated!)

24.01.2022 Meet our Thursday Night March 2020 Puppy Pre School Graduates!!

24.01.2022 Hi, all! To keep everyone safe during these trying times, we have begun to dial back our non-essential services. This unfortunately means that we will NOT be offering our grooming services for a little while. We are also no longer taking any new bookings for routine desexings, and instead prioritizing our surgical slots for urgent/emergency surgeries. If you have already booked your pet in for desexing with us, we will honour your booking.... As most people at the moment, we are not sure how long this will last at this stage We are, of course, more than happy to offer exemptions for your pet's council registration upon request. We understand the inconvenience that this may cause, and for that we do apologise. However, I'm sure everyone will understand the importance of us limiting our exposure where possible! If a staff member is exposed, the entire clinic will be shut down and we won't be able to see ANY consults or surgeries! FOR MORE INFORMATION REGARDING OUR OTHER UPDATED POLICIES, PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE: https://www.findonvet.com.au/covid-19-update/

13.01.2022 Hellooooo slithery friends! These two rage babies were in for a weight check today AND.....they aren’t so little anymore

13.01.2022 Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during the struggles of this year. Being classified as essential workers was both a relief but also very scary knowing that we held our communities’ health in our hands! Due to the current nature of the pandemic in South Australia, we are beginning to ease our policies, though they will not be totally lifted for some time. - You no longer have to phone to alert us of your arrival, please come into the... waiting area, though be mindful to maintain social distancing from others inside. PLEASE NOTE: During peak business hours, you may be asked to step outside or wait in your car until the waiting area has cleared and you will be able to safely maintain your distance from other clients & staff. In addition, if you do not feel comfortable waiting in the waiting room, you are most welcome to remain in your car and phone the practice to alert us of your arrival. - A maximum of two people will be able to enter the consulting room with your pet, however, for the safety of you and your family, we will continue to perform thorough physical exams and administer treatments in our treatment area with the assistance of our highly skilled nursing team. The following basic rules still remain in place. Please stay at home if you’re: - feeling unwell (in any way, regardless of symptoms) - are self-isolating or have had contact with a person that may have COVID-19 - if you have travelled to VIC or NSW within the last 2 weeks Please stay safe and respect those around you. Warm regards, The team at the Findon and Seaton Vets

13.01.2022 I'M FULL!! *UPDATE 3* I have filled an entire MOVING TRUCK full of donations for Kangaroo Island! We can no longer accept anything other than grocery donations!... ---------++ Our practice manager, Mollie, is a Kangaroo Island native and will be taking whatever her car can carry over to the Island (once the Ferry is back to normal and anyone desperately needing to get on/off the island has done so). The Kangaroo Island community are calling out for: - non-perishable foods -sanitary and hygiene products - drinking water However, anything is appreciated, just please no perishable food. Please bring any donated items to our Seaton Clinic at your earliest convenience. In addition to this, we are extending our offer for emergency boarding to any victims of the KI Fires as well. Your kind assistance will be very much appreciated. Thank you from all of us at the Findon and Seaton Vets xx. (and some cute Koalas to gain attention, and because we all need a little "aww" at times like this!)

12.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who donated to us in the past week. I had hoped to fill my little i30 for my trip and instead ended up with a 6.5m, 10 tonne Commercial Truck - donated very generously by Budget. This week I have been inspired by the generosity of the community. It has been overwhelming to say the least and I am truly humbled by the sincere empathy, concern and kindness I have encountered this week. Disasters truly do bring out the best in people!... Today, we went into an active fire zone to deliver medical supplies to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. I was blown away with the INCREDIBLE level of care, thought, foresight and dedication from the staff, despite the fact that they are inundated with a constant flow of wildlife. These people deserve an enormous amount of praise and support. I cannot recommend enough visiting and supporting these guys if you are travelling to KI!!! I would like to make a special thanks to: - Budget Marleston - for the truck hire. - Sealink, who allowed us to travel for free. - Agline, a veterinary wholesaler, who donated 550kg ($8000) worth of pet food - Ian and Ali Hogben, for ongoing support, donating supplies and allowing me to spend so much time organising this (and hijacking our social media page!) And thank you again to everyone who donated items and offered words of support! I am so grateful for the opportunity to feel that I could offer support to my home town and for that I offer my sincere gratitude to each and every person who dug deep and helped out.

12.01.2022 Corona virus update: At this stage there has been no reported human - animal or animal to human transmission of the Corona virus. We are constantly monitoring the situation and will post any further updates that we may receive from our governing authorities as this may change unfortunately. The OIE and Wasava has some guidelines and recommendations including restricting contact with pets if a person is infected https://wsava.org//the-new-coronavirus-and-companion-anim/

10.01.2022 Hello, friends. It has just been bought to our attention that this website has online booking information on it... please note that THIS IS NOT OUR WEBSITE. We have NOT provided them with access (nor permission to access) our server to book online, it is not clear where this information goes, however, this website WILL NOT successfully book you an appointment with us... We are looking into whether this website (topvet.net) is legitimate or not and have been in contact with... them to remove it immediately. However, it unfortunately appears to be a UK based site so response may be slow. If you wish to make online bookings, please do so via our official Facebook page or website (www.findonvet.com.au) and NOT via Top Vet (or ANY other page, just to be safe!) Sincere apologies for any confusion and inconvenience that this may have caused but rest assured that we are working on it!

07.01.2022 UPDATED PROTOCOLS REGARDING COVID-19 --Please note, this is NOT related to our recent post regarding COVID-19 and pets. There have been no updates regarding that topic.-- To our wonderful clients, Though I'm sure you're all sick of hearing about it, for the safety of our staff, but also for the safety of all of you, we are implementing some minor changes to our consulting protocols. ... 1) Obvious one, but, please do not come to the clinic if you have any symptoms relating to COVID-19, if you are in self-isolation, if you are awaiting a COVID test result or if you have been in contact with any at-risk people. 2) We ask that, where possible, just ONE family member enters the consult room with the vet 3) Please CALL the clinic when you arrive in the car park with your pet and we will call you when we are ready to take you through. This will avoid crowded waiting rooms IF YOU ARE IN ISOLATION, UNWELL OR IMMUNOSUPPRESSED: For many minor issues, such as medication revisits, minor lumps/grazes etc., we may be able to offer a phone consult or Skype consult. Please call the clinic to organise a time for this and our nurses will try and ascertain if it is something that can be done via a remote consult or if you should consider having a friend/family member bring the pet in on your behalf. Thank you! Findon and Seaton Vets :)

03.01.2022 IMPORTANT information for our clients

02.01.2022 Warning from RSPCA on imported pronged dog collars RSPCA South Australia: "The RSPCA has expressed its concern about a rise in the importation of pronged dog ...collars, with the Australian Border Force announcing today a seven-fold increase in the number of these cruel devices detected at the border. The metal collars consist of multiple protruding spikes and are designed to apply intense pressure and pinch a dog’s neck as a form of punishment-based training. The collars are illegal to import into Australia but not illegal to use on dogs (except in Victoria). RSPCA Australia Senior Scientific Officer Dr Di Evans said that pronged collars were harmful to dogs but unfortunately, while they were illegal to import, they were still arriving at the border. It’s worrying to see these inhumane collars are still being imported for use in the Australian community, said Dr Evans. The RSPCA opposes the use of pronged collars because of the direct pain and suffering they cause to dogs and the long-term impact of using punishment as a training method. We urge all members of the community not to buy or use them. Community pressure has been effective in reducing the online sale of these collars, but sadly, these statistics show they are still out there. Many risks are associated with this type of punishment-based training, including aggression, fearfulness, anxiety, reduced learning and eroding the animal-human bond. Pronged collars can also cause physical damage to a dog’s windpipe and nerves, bruising of soft tissues, and in some cases have even punctured the skin. There are much more humane and effective training methods for dogs, which is why we support reward-based training where dogs are set up to succeed and then rewarded for performing the ‘good’ behaviours. "In addition to the import ban, we've been strongly advocating for many years for other states and territories to follow Victoria's lead by prohibiting the use of pronged collars under animal welfare legislation. While we’re extremely concerned that more and more of these collars are being imported, it’s good to see that they are being stopped at the border. We thank the Australian Border Force for their work to stop these imports and for raising awareness of this important animal welfare issue. Over the 12-month period from April 2020 to March 2021 (compared to the previous 12 months), the number of pronged collars seized at the border has increased from 56 to 477." www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

02.01.2022 CHRISTMAS TRADING HOURS We will be here for you and your pets for most of the holiday period, closed only the public holidays during the silly season, with an early close on the eve's. Please remember that we are not the only people with reduced opening hours, our suppliers of food and medications do, too! ... If your pet is on special food or requires medication please let us know well in advance so that we can order it in if we don't have it in stock. Remember that lots of people go away during this time, so more people pick up larger quantities of food/medication, so the chances of us being out of stock are higher than usual.

01.01.2022 OUR HEARTS AND DOORS ARE OPEN! If you have been evacuated from fires and need a place to board your pets, please get in contact with our Seaton Clinic - we will take on as many as we can until our runs and cages are full! Our hearts go out to anyone affected by the horrible weather and fires today!

01.01.2022 Here is the TRUE story of King Arthur ... forget Knights of the Round Table and swords stuck in stone !! 'The King' is a Bully-Buster Tomcat who was brought to RSPCA South Australia with a severely broken leg, bite wounds AND a nasty viral infection ... BUT with a smoochie, loveable nature. The Findon and Seaton Vets have been providing our orthopaedic services to the RSPCA for some time now and so we did our best to put 'The King' back together again... Here's his short story :)
