On behalf of the SRC and all of Findon High School students, staff and families we would like to acknowledge our dedicated team of support staff for the wonderful work they do. There are a lot of things that wouldnt happen if not for our SSOs and we are all so grateful for you dedication, skill and care. From the SRC and all of Findon High School.
25.01.2022 How do we check our selves when our assumptions come up? How do we see them? What can we do it a different way? These were just some of the important questions our students were challenged to consider this NAIDOC Week, as they participated in ‘Generation of Change’, an Anti-Racism program that was founded by Reconciliation South Australia and ActNow Theatre in 2014. It champions an inclusive society free from racism. The day-long program enables students to come together to learn about racisms and discuss anti-racism strategies for their school. The program is divided into three stages of learning for students to understand and stop racism: Learn, Respond and Prevent.

25.01.2022 Last Friday we welcomed the newest members of the Findon High School community - our 2021 year 8s! The students had the opportunity to connect with their peers and current students who showed them the ropes.... Transition day was also an opportunity to explore our student centres learning approach first hand with students creating their own program of learning for the day. Some opted for hands on subjects like Tech Studies and Home Ec, others wanted to get moving with a taste of PE while some signed up for the chance to get creative in art. Whatever the experience they had a lot of fun and walked away feeling more confident and connected to their new school. We can’t wait to welcome them back in January!

16.01.2022 What happens to seeds when they blast off into space? Students in The Palms Education Centre will be the first to find out! Their successful ‘What’ll happen to the wattle?’ entry means that Palms students will receive wattle seeds that have flown to space, plus seeds that have not. The seeds are from the same seed lot. Students are asked to germinate and grow their seeds, recording data about the germination and seed growth. In collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Explorati...on Agency (JAXA) the seeds will live in space for six months, returning to Australia in time for Science Week 2021. The project will result in the creation of a nationwide map, identifying the location of Australia’s Space Wattle trees’; and Findon High School’s Palms Education Centre will be on it! The count-down is well and truly on and blast off is scheduled for December 2nd USA date. It can be viewed live by visiting the Space X website at https://www.spacex.com/launches/

06.01.2022 What does a standard drink look like? How much alcohol is safe to consume? What factors might influence how much I can have, safely? How long until i’m good to drive after drinking? What is the drug most commonly used in drink spiking? What’s poly-drug use and why is it dangerous? What are the impacts of long term and occasional illicit marijuana use? What dangerous substances do drug manufacturers use to ‘cut’ amphetamines? A presentation by the Sammy D Foundation in the ILC... answered these questions and many more. The presentation was powerful! Students got a hands on experience of what it’s like to be alcohol affected with Gabby and Nate wearing simulation goggles which mimicked being 3 times over the legal alcohol limit of 0.05% Maddie poured what she thought was a standard drink - and it turned out to be a double shot. The experience resulted in a more well informed audience who will take these lessons into their life experiences.
