Moving in time with the breath can be quite meditative and soothing. 10.01.2022 This week we’ve been focusing on Tapas (heat, self-discipline). Tapas is one of the positive duties (Niyamas) described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Often, before we are motivated to change we need to feel so uncomfortable with our current situation that a type of friction happens. This friction/heat gives us the momentum to want to take action. Tapas can be the heat that motivates us to ‘burn’ away bad habits, erroneous thought patterns, or whatever is not serving you to liv...e your best life. By having self discipline you are clear and intent to make those changes and to take action. You are able to resist the short term quick satisfaction of temptation to stay steady for the longer term achievement of your aspirations for becoming the best version of you. 05.01.2022 Welcoming the new day. Do you have a morning ritual? An early morning walk and coffee after or are you the type that enjoys every last minute in bed before rushing out the door? Some days it’s hard to feel motivated to get up and move and that’s why we can’t rely on motivation alone. Setting little goals like planning a walk or yoga practice keeps us focused and when we get clear about WHY moving your body is important to us it’s easier to make it happen. Here are some of my ...whys for moving my body every day: 1. Move it or lose it. The less we do now, the less we are able to do in the future. Mobility, balance, strength all fade fast when we become sedentary. I keep moving so I can continue to do the things I love. 2. Better breathing. The more efficient and effective we are able to breathe the healthier we are. We can train our breath like any other practice for improvement and functionality. 3. Stress relief. Moving my body helps me release stressed stored in its tissues etc. Calming my breath helps relax all of my bodily systems. When I’m calm my thoughts are clear. 4. Mood boosting. Starting my day with rituals like yoga, meditation and a nutritious breakfast sets me up for a positive start. It helps me flow through tough times a little easier than if I didn’t have these rituals. It’s like setting the foundations each day to build on. No foundations = collapse. 01.01.2022 Firefly Pose (Tittibhasana). This one makes me feel like a young child again hence my cheesy grin . I explore the pose carefully playing with balance moving my legs up and bottom back and down to find where it feels best in my body. An arm balance that requires a surprising amount of core strength plus hamstring and hip flexibility. I’m still working on this one especially to get my arms straighter without landing on my butt .
