25.01.2022 Satin is my preferred finish for a bow, but high gloss can be absolutely beautiful at bringing out depth and contrast. Mmm, shiny.
19.01.2022 Whew, what a massive few weeks. The workshop is moved and about 2 days away from being ready to go. Setting up my planer/build bench to make the most of the Baw Baw Ranges - will never tire of the view. To those who have been waiting for us to setup - thank you for your patience. We still don't have internet but will within the week, so we be contacting everyone in order to get things in motion. Keep an eye on this page, we will have a lot of bows, arrows and news to share this month. Thanks all!
18.01.2022 One of the loveliest pieces of figured Zebrano I've found, and so glad this bow is going to such an appreciative new owner. 35# Hun with Ash, Zebrano, Sitka and Buffalo horn.
18.01.2022 So I was asked to make a set of arrows that would stand out. Et viola! Enjoy, Dave. Note: Yes, they are all real feathers. We only use real feathers.
17.01.2022 Tillered, shaped and ready for their finish, the only issue is stopping Krystal from stealing them (seriously though, that's an actual problem).
16.01.2022 I love the contrast of light against dark - Blackheart Sassafras, Ironwood and Maple riser with Maple limbs. This is a bit of a special bow as the Blackheart is from the new owner's Grandfather's workshop, who sadly passed a short time ago. Hope you like it Zac, I feel privileged to have been able to make you something this personal.
14.01.2022 Love the colour scheme - black shafts and nocks with fully bound White and Red Barred fletchings. Enjoy, Simon!
14.01.2022 It's been a cold, cold winter. Not much has been happening, but I'll be damned if I don't give defying nature a try. Here is the result - a 40# Longbow made from Jarrah, Cherry, Maple, Ironwood and Sassafras Blackheart. Hope you like it, David.
13.01.2022 40# Yew, Ash and Horn horse bow. The Yew is a particularly nice cut with blonde and ruby highlights, and some colourful horn siyahs to match.
13.01.2022 Woohoo, 300 likes, thanks everyone! It's been a bit quiet on our page for the past couple of weeks, with good reason - we've grown out of our current workshop and in 2 months will be moving to a larger workshop that will give us plenty of space to make our hand crafted bows and arrows. This is great news, though it also means that we'll be slowing down for the next 8 weeks and will be focusing on finishing all current orders and getting the workshop ready to be moved. We have 6 horse bows (30-40# range) that are nearing completion plus a 75'' English Longbow with horn nocks, but other than that we won't be taking any custom orders until we've finished moving. Thanks everyone for all your help getting us here, it's a privilege and something we don't take for granted!
12.01.2022 Coaching in such beautiful weather is a gift, frankly the sun being out is a lucky thing! So a lot of changes are about to take place at Fine Fletchings, the biggest being a move of workshop. For this reason we won't be taking any more orders until we're setup in our new premises, which we're expecting to be about 8 weeks. We do have 3 horse bows made and ready for sale, but apart from that we'll be finishing off our remaining bow/arrow orders in short order and then the move begins! Thanks everyone for supporting us (in particular those willing to wait whilst we get setup), we'll be back up and running at 100% shortly!
12.01.2022 Here are some black and natural finish arrow shafts about to receive the final of four coats of sealant that every set of Fine Fletchings arrows has applied. Spraying or dipping the finish are far inferior methods that suffer from target burn in short order, so every coat we apply is by hand.
09.01.2022 This lovely Black Poplar Hun is for Russell. Horn Siyahs, Ash, Sitka and Black Poplar with a black laced grip with a satin finish.
08.01.2022 Drying time. Shiny.
08.01.2022 40# Yew horse bow for Dylan, in the Magyar profile. Yew is a beautiful timber but quite hard to get hold of, and this two tone piece is particularly beautiful.
08.01.2022 Finally, some time in the workshop! Close to finishing a couple of custom Ironwood/Blackheart/Maple Longbows, plus 6 horse bows in Zebrano, Mahogany, Poplar, Birch and Yew.
08.01.2022 Yay, Sun! With it comes productivity, here are some matched Maple strips and a shaped Blackheart, Ironwood, Maple and Jarrah riser ready to be made into a bow.
07.01.2022 A morning without frozen hands is a gift, but actual sunshine is the icing on the cake. Here are the final two custom longbows (works in progress) that will be made before we shift the workshop. Blackheart Sassafras and Ironwood are just beautiful raw, but once they're finished they radiate colour.
07.01.2022 A simple set of arrows with Traditional Barred and Autumn Brown fletches, half with a natural finish and the other half with Blood Red cresting. Hope you like them, Sean!
05.01.2022 Pope & Young cut white and traditional barred 4'' fletches on natural finished shafts. Enjoy, Dylan!
03.01.2022 Green Barred and Black fletches with a Shield profile cut on natural finished shafts. Hope you enjoy them Russell!
02.01.2022 31# Magyar with Zebrano/Ash limbs, Horn siyahs and a black leather grip with braided lacing. Hope you enjoy it Vanessa!
