17.01.2022 COSTA RICA FINALLY CONVICTS A SHARK FINNER Since 2002, Costa Rica has been trying to convict me for interfering with the gruesome practice of shark finning. Dur...ing these 16 years they have not once convicted anyone for illegally finning sharks - until this week. Tseng Chang and the crew of the Wang Jia Men 88 were found to have been illegally transporting shark fins. Tseng Chang has been ordered to serve 6 months in prison but she is appealing the conviction. If arrested by Costa Rica I would be facing a life sentence for the charge of "shipwreck" endangerment for stopping the shark finning operations of the Varadero I in the waters of Guatemala, an action that the Guatemalan government actually asked me to do. Costa Rica remains one of the most corrupt nations engaging in shark finning activities.
16.01.2022 The shark is estimated to be up to 512 years old, which would make it the oldest living vertebrate in the world and even older than Shakespeare. And you thought turning 30 made you ancient.
16.01.2022 Earlier this week, Operation Apex Harmony found a 2.5 metre female tiger shark hanging from a drumline at Kellys Beach in Queensland. She suffered, stuck on thi...s hook for more than 30 hours before she was shot by authorities. This is how Queenslands Shark Control Program works and its been done this way since 1962. Today, we have drones, clever buoys, shark spotters and many other options that are all non-lethal methods that the government could use instead of these baited hooks. Sharks are essential for keeping our oceans healthy, eating sick and weak fish. Without a healthy ocean we dont have a healthy planet. #sharks #Seashepherd #Opapexharmony #animalrights #fortheoceans #savethisplanet See more

13.01.2022 Warning Graphic Photos: During todays ship tours of the Sea Shepherd ship MV Farley Mowat, a bicyclist road up to inform the crew that he had taken photos of a... vendor in the Seaport Village fish market who was selling meat from a Great White Shark. The Great White Shark is a protected species in the state of California, although bycatch from gillnet fishing is allowed. Our problem with this is that they were only selling shark. If the Great White was a product of their gillnet fishing where was their catch? The San Diego Harbor Police have taken a report and we have been told the California Department Fish and Game has opened an investigation. The San Diego Port District is also involved. #Seashepherd #sharks #OpApexHarmony

05.01.2022 When every last fish is gone... This magnificent whale shark, although protected under Chinese law, was caught and driven into town to be sold. It was clearly a...live in the back of the truck. The restaurant owner wouldnt buy it over health fears, Mercury contamination. It was then cut to pieces and sold directly to buyers on the streets. As our oceans become overfished, pressure will ratchet up to eat anything and everything. When the last fish is gone, what then? Overfishing, weak environmental laws, international treaties and lack of enforcement is a GLOBAL problem that impacts us all, everywhere. As we speak, Australia is also dodging its responsibilities to protect critically endangered shark species protected under international treaties. We ALL have to do better.
