24.01.2022 **Ben Lomond National Park road closure** As a result of destructive winds and with a severe weather warning in place, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service has c...losed the road at the Ben Lomond park boundary. Significant wind gusts overnight and throughout the day have resulted in trees falling on to the road and roof damage to a building in the Ben Lomond Village. Conditions will continue to be monitored and the road will be reopened once it is safe to do so. Thanks for your patience.

23.01.2022 A little note....... Hi everyone This is the last GET and AMIC newsletter from me as Secretary of Greater Esk Tourism.... Greater Esk Tourism has achieved incredible things considering the group is a small group of volunteers supported by the Break O’Day and Northern Midlands Councils; some of the achievements are on the GET page. It is with mixed feelings that the committee needs to step down and move onto other things. We are sad to let GET go but we have ‘punched above our weight’ as Mayor Tucker said, so we can be very proud to have set several projects in motion. The Fingal Valley Neighbourhood House have acknowledged the benefits of GET’s worth and are evaluating the possibility of starting a new tourism group to continue and expand on the enthusiasm GET generated in the Fingal Valley. So please give your support to the FVNHH and keep the momentum going. The Photographic Competition Presentation Evening will go ahead as planned and then the group will officially fold. The Committee will stay in place until all correct procedures have occurred. Kind regards Mary Knowles OAM Secretary Greater Esk Tourism Inc.

15.01.2022 Australia Day This year’s Australia Day Celebrations will be a little different and we hope you will join us in starting the celebrations early! Because St Hele...ns Wheels, Wine and Dine will be taking place on Australia Day which falls on a Saturday this year, we thought we would have a twilight Australia Day Celebration on the Friday. This year’s Council Australia Day event will be held at the Portland Hall and Memorial Park in St Helens and start at 5pm with a Night market which will run until 9pm. The Night market will feature local artisans that will include hand crafted items like copper jewellery, tye die clothing, pottery, homewares and more. The official ceremony, which features the announcement of the Australian and Young Australian Citizens of the year, will be held at 6pm. Completing the festive atmosphere will be Live music from 6:45pm 9:30pmpm and food and drink including; Wine, Cider and Roti Wraps (Red pork and Asian slaw, Pulled lamb and chimichuri, Tandoori chicken and pickled carrots and cucumber as well as Sausages, Hamburgers, the infamous Wonks Fish Cakes and soft drinks provided by Marine Rescue. Of course the next day, Saturday 26 January will see the St Helens Foreshore come alive with vintage cars, rides, rock-a-billy music and dancing more. We hope that you will all come along and start the Australia Day Long weekend a little early this year.
