24.01.2022 Introducing the next artist participating in the Fink Collaborative Jug Project Artist Charles Butcher My works are a direct result of intimate conversations I have with myself. These works are not a window into the outside world, rather unhurried studies that derive from introspection. Interested in the deterioration of matter, I question the idea of silence, purity and existence. Chick Butcher A collaboration between the departed and we present is for me, a fascinating c...oncept. One Im honoured to pursue. Ironically its not a huge digression from the themes of my work of the last decadehowever this exchange has a potency Ive not previously experienced. The bar has been set high, very high. Considerations of time, place and culture are imperative, as was Robbies commitment to enrich each experience of his considered objects. My combining his iconic Fink jug with iron oxide and a burnt recycled hardwood handle may be suggestive of deterioration, a reminder of our fragility, yet the clean lines and resolved proportions truly respect the legacy of this pioneer. He, like all respected artists, makers and designers, honoured a responsibility to leave behind innovative and well-considered objects, as these form the map that guides those who follow. In this case we can be assured that, once again, Robbie Foster both supplied and surpassed. 21.01.2022 The FINK Collaborative Jug Project pays homage to the late Robert Foster, designer and founder of FINK & Co, who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2016 and is deeply missed. FINK & Co has a long history of collaborating, mentoring and supporting fellow artists, designers and craftspeople. Fifteen creatives have been chosen for this project, all of whom have had a direct connection to Robert and/or FINK over the 27 years of the companys history. The 15 designers/arti...sts have been tasked with responding to this iconic Australian design object in the manner of their own choosing, informed by their personal practice. Each designer has been provided with a blank FINK jug with which to begin. The finished bespoke artworks created as a result of this collaboration will be auctioned live online. This is a true collaboration. The designers have worked closely with the Fink team to realise their designs. This diverse group of sculptors, jewellers, glass artists, graphic designers and metalsmiths have thrown their enthusiasm into the project and a wide array of different approaches have emerged. The Fink team has worked through many challenging and complicated technical issues in a variety of mediums to produce the finished works, with individual jugs taking up to six attempts to perfect. This is a true testament to the amazing skills and innovative approaches that the FINK Team has brought to the project and to their enduring embrace of Roberts personal motto Never say it cant be done. The auction will go live at 5pm on Friday 26 June and close on Sunday 28 June at 5pm, with a percentage of the profits to be donated to Headspace, Canberra. There will be a public viewing of the finished jugs on Friday 26th of June. To book a free time slot to view the collaborative jugs on Friday 26 June go to URL: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fink-collaborative-jug-project

15.01.2022 Introducing the next artist participating in the Fink Collaborative Jug Project Knife-smith and Finks production manager Bengt Cannon Bengt Cannon is a seasoned metalsmith with a background in heavy metal fabrication. Recently, his interests have led to a passion for knife-making. His love of developing skills has led to experiments in forge welding and using different material combinations. Bengt joined Robert Foster at Fink & Co in 2009, and a strong bond formed between th...em. Securing the role of production manager his fabrication skills were used in many ways, going onto collaborate with Rob to create products for the Fink lighting range in 2013. Contributing to product development and assisting in tool making has led him to develop a love for process-based design. Putting his own work on hiatus to ensure the longevity of Fink & CO, Bengt continues to grow his artistic craft through experimenting in tool design, and process creation. This piece was inspired by love of exploration through processes of heat, pressure, and refinement, demonstrating techniques both ancient and modern, and the fusion of makers both young and old. I wanted to experiment with different ideas, and include processes learnt in my journey as a knife- maker. Combining the light, elegant anodized aluminium jug form with the strong, yet intricate, patterned Damascus steel handle reflects, to me, the organic beauty of nature, which can be both harsh and delicate. 11.01.2022 ITS ALL IN THE DETAILS This is a true collaboration. Fifteen designers and artists have been asked to respond to Robert Fosters iconic Australian FINK Jug in a manner informed by their personal practice, embedding their individual, distinctive styles in the finished works.... The designers have worked closely with the Fink team to realise their designs and the Fink team has worked through many challenging and complicated technical issues in a variety of mediums to produce the finished works, with individual jugs taking up to six attempts to perfect. This is a true testament to the amazing skills and innovative approaches that the FINK Team has brought to the project and to their enduring embrace of Robert Fosters personal motto Never say it cant be done. This diverse group of sculptors, jewellers, glass artists, graphic designers and metalsmiths have thrown their enthusiasm into the project and a wide array of different approaches has emerged. Jugs have been engraved, vinyl wrapped, sandblasted, hand hammered, powder coated and hand carved. One is even set with a solid white opal from Queensland! The FINK team have used a range of specialised anodising techniques to produce different effects whilst handles have been made from layered fused glass, hand forged Damascus steel and burnt wood. Architectural products supplier Axolotl were instrumental in producing a rusted surface finish for one of the jugs. Each finished jug is unique and will not go into production and the bespoke artworks created as a result of this collaboration will be auctioned live online. The auction will go live at 5pm on Friday 26 June and close on Sunday 28 June at 5pm Photos Alison Jackson, Alex Asch and Brian Tunks

10.01.2022 Metalsmith Xanthe Gay has been making jewellery and small objects for over 30 years. Whilst initially self taught, she later went on to study Jewellery and Object Design at Sydney College of the Arts as well as Gold and Silver Smithing at Canberra School of Art, ANU. Today she works from her Bungendore NSW workshop and gallery, X Gallery, that Robert Foster generously helped her design and fit out in 2004. Having proudly represented Fink Design through my gallery for 16 y...ears, I find the prospect of taking my hammers and tools to this iconic object extremely daunting! For this collaboration I want to celebrate the fabulous functionality of the Fink jug. It is famous for its smooth fluid pour, its ease of handling, the chill factor and the delightful way the moisture beads on the surface, inviting you to quench your thirst. To me the Fink jug will always be synonymous with my memories of dear Robbie, good times, good food, good company, laughter and of course, great music and dancing. 01.01.2022 The Droplet Earrings are the result of a FINK Design Team collaboration inspired by the form of the negative space of the Loop Neckpieces. As with the neckpieces the two organic shapes are Oval and Angle, with each earring combining a large and a small component. The shapes are juxtaposed against each other through the deliberate contrast of the two materials, one-part anodised aluminium and one component polished stainless steel. The reflective mirror finish of the polished... material balances the softness of the aluminium. The range comprises twelve earrings with colour combinations of matt silver with polished stainless, black with polished stainless and bordeaux with polished stainless. The Droplet Earrings jiggle gently when you move creating their own melody and are timeless, elegant pieces suitable for day and evening wear. The minimalist nature of the design will appeal to a wide range of fashion tastes and styles. Keep an eye out for these in stores soon!
