25.01.2022 I have been told many many times how lucky I am to have a pool. My washing line currently resides there. It’s a mini ghost town in there just like so many small businesses in Victoria. It’s been a lot longer than 5 weeks, especially for those who rely physically and mentally on water as therapy.

24.01.2022 It’s Monday morning and the start of another week. SLOW DOWN When it comes to swimming, as in life, you have to slow down in order to speed up.... A preparation phase make a massive difference and sets you up for success

24.01.2022 Good kicking https://fb.watch/2k2mNkNrIB/

24.01.2022 This feels like an alternate reality..... and that Japan has been preparing for the olympics for such a long time.

21.01.2022 Looking for an adult swimmer to share a fitness and technique based session and available preferably work hours Tuesday/Thursday morning or early Monday/Wednesday afternoon Please contact me. Promise you will love it!

21.01.2022 I was going through some old photos. Prahran pool in the 90’s -the colour palate was so different to today (if people were able to swim in Victoria I mean), before Funky Trunks introduced their bright aesthetic and everyone copied them. It was so conservative. If you rock up to any training pool now it’s so much brighter. Hot pink caps and boards, bathers with the brightest patterns and fluorescent fins.

20.01.2022 Excellent article- not just for competition swimmers. Replace the struggles with your own version until you see that little ray of sunshine

19.01.2022 Definition of commitment- PEATY

17.01.2022 Please be weary around water, weather it’s a pool, the beach or a waterway. It’s not just the kids. It’s parents jumping in to save their kids, it’s teens and predominantly males according to statistics over-estimating their swimming abilities and under-estimating our waterways. Alcohol and swimming also contribute to risk-taking behaviours. Watch the kids while you are barbecuing and socialising. If you do get into trouble, try and stay calm. Decision making is compromised when we are coming from fear. We make life saving choices when we are calmer. Adrenaline will kick in to help you anyway. Stay safe everyone and Happy New Years

17.01.2022 My boys and I had the opportunity to watch the turtles hatching earlier this year so this is so sad to see. I have been a crazy bag lady for many years to avoid plastic bags but I’m going to try add some of these suggestions as well. It’s not so fun swimming in the ocean if they are not there with us (thanks Christine).

16.01.2022 Dreaming of swimming.... https://www.facebook.com/104618551318011/posts/138500044596528/?vh=e&extid=sN19ZbNLid9yWbN8&d=n

16.01.2022 So we are back at it and it’s been an incredible start! My Learn to Swim adults are now squad levels. My teenagers are growing in confidence and I am trying to pack so much into their sessions because they are eager to learn. We have new swimmers learning from scratch and I’m so excited for them. Remember it’s never too late to learn to swim and conquer those fears. Today was girl power all the way which was so much fun. My male heavy program is awesome but great to have female energy as well. I also got to catch up with quite a few of my ex swimmers over the last month which was so special! Keep well everyone

15.01.2022 In Melbourne today....next best thing to swimming (my little cousin Harrison).

15.01.2022 With so many swimmers taking to the beach during this unique time, here is some insight into Melbourne’s Icebergers and the conditions they contend with. Hosted by comedian Brooksy.

12.01.2022 I found this gem of an article explaining putting your face in the water. For the many many many adults with swimming on their wish list or the breath holders (stress holders) this will be very helpful. And to the parents trying to assist their swimmers reinforce the importance of bubbling in the car on the way to lessons. Why as a swim coach is this so important to me? Aside from these days I do a lot of teaching, bad habits in breathing create problems even for a developed swimmer. There is a big difference in being able to swim and swimming well. Relaxation is key. Understanding breathing and relaxing have a direct correlation and therefore affect technique. See you all poolside https://www.littleotterswim.com//blowing-bubbles-ends-you/

12.01.2022 How cool is this! https://www.facebook.com/60271454296/posts/10158653449284297/?vh=e&extid=0

10.01.2022 Getting back in after a break is a slog. The first time feels awesome but after that it’s hard work. Muscle memory is there but we are kinaesthetically unaware. We can’t see ourselves so the feedback loop is based on false information. Some tips for getting back in the water.... 1. Go slow 2. Don’t rush (if number 1 was confusing) 3. Mix up strokes to avoid injury and use aids such as flippers. Never underestimate the importance of rest and control. ... 4. Fs- Layer your skills with drills building up to swim focusing on head position during breathing and not over-rotating. Controlled exhale creates space allowing a good early catch without slipping. 5. Backstroke- kick in streamline and ‘knit’ rib cage down allowing you to activate your abdominals and challenge yourself to maintain this when adding arms. 5. Careful to overdo breaststroke kick at this stage. Build up endurance over time to avoid injury. Scull with FS kick or mix in dolphin kick. 6. What a great opportunity to work on your dolphin kick!! Good luck and see you all poolside

10.01.2022 I am counting down until the swim community can get back into the water. Let’s take a moment to express what it means to you xxxI am counting down until the swim community can get back into the water. Let’s take a moment to express what it means to you xxx

09.01.2022 Couldn’t resist sharing this delightful footage. Hope 2021 is treating everyone kindly. https://fb.watch/2TdtoC4wbV/

09.01.2022 Just finished my planning for the next week. Girl power all the way tomorrow here at FinkSwim and I’m so excited Summer fun- view from our balcony on the gorgeous Heron Island.

08.01.2022 In Merediths wise words...

07.01.2022 My friend Annie is an incredible sculpture. She has been doing a lot of work with water themes and I wanted to share.

07.01.2022 When people say swimmers just follow the line and it’s boring I am confused. We are much more interesting than that.

07.01.2022 Don Talbot. He was passionate, committed and uncompromising. I can’t do justice to his achievements and contributions but grateful I was able to learn and watch.

07.01.2022 So versatile. An incredible balance between strength and flexibility. Such an intelligent athlete and all the traits of being open to learning no matter how good he gets. Well done.

05.01.2022 Hang in there Melbourne xx We are in lockdown but I prefer to ‘lock-in’ to streamline

05.01.2022 I am super excited to say FinkSwim will be open from Monday and what a great opportunity to include the wonderful and inspiring NC .

05.01.2022 I have spoken to many concerned parents about their iso babies and toddlers missing water opportunities. Fill up the bathtub, have a shower and in the garden fill up buckets of water- add toys/ measuring cups/ water-can and just play. It’s all wonderful water stimulation. Create a relaxed and playful attitude around water that can transition back into swimming lessons and the pool. Spray them with the hose on hot days. WARNING- never leave your child unwatched around any water. Drowning happens in a puddle of water, not necessarily a pool. No distractions like the phone. It happens very quickly- stay alert. Thankyou to my friend for this beautiful pic of her mum teaching her to swim. I love it

04.01.2022 Preparing for a swim class. Setting yourself up to succeed. I often talk about this concept on pool deck related to finishing off the back end of any event when swimming. Today I want to relate it to preparing for your swim session especially with returning back to classes. ... 1. Prepare for your session early so you are not rushing. Kids feel your stress and we want the session to be fun. 2. Equipment malfunction is so annoying! Check you have good goggles especially. 3. Set up expectations- explain to your swimmer what to expect..... maybe the name of your teacher or how many other kids will share the class. It can be a bit daunting. 4. Do not swim hungry and if you have a little swimmer know that a hangry swimmer makes it harder to learn and focus. 5. Parents- Use common sense when dealing with your children. They are human beings. What you say affects them. Be positive and encouraging and authentic. Kids are smart. Remember we all learn at our own rate. Have a great swim today

04.01.2022 Great to be back - referral from a health practitioner only until rules change next week and then everyone can get wet

03.01.2022 It’s a tough time for all swimming related businesses..... if you need bathers for when it’s time to get back to the pool Funky Trunks and Funkita are the way to go. Melbourne based business owned by one of my favourite human beings and ex-swimmer and modelled here by another (Go Bella - beautiful inside and out)!

03.01.2022 R.I.P. Gennadi. We learnt so much. It was such an incredible time in swim coaching. He inspired so many with his thinking.

03.01.2022 We can’t swim in Victoria but here’s some inspiration..... https://www.facebook.com/BBCArtsOnline/videos/2706761152880787/?vh=e&extid=HEqJpUOucruNTG9L

03.01.2022 For a moment this appears to be about swimming and in a way I think it is. Collective Ripples is a movement that inspires sharing kindness through post it notes and now it’s own billboard. Congratulations Jodie (David Preiss) I don’t think I have ever discussed swimming with Jodie.....a swimmer is never more present than in that moment their body slides into the water, pushes off the wall and streamlines into their first lap, starts kicking and turning over their arms into their first lap and no matter what else is going on in your life right at that moment there is a sense that everything will be alright. By the end of the swim, the swimmer has reset and is ready to face the day..... I love this pic of Jodie and her message xx

02.01.2022 Fun coming to Melbourne

02.01.2022 Water cravings.... this expresses it so well. https://www.smh.com.au//this-is-the-one-thing-i-m-really-w
