20.01.2022 Best quote FINN Films has had yet on our search to solve the mystery behind the history of the Golden Baby Buddha! Ive spent 40 years looking at corrosion and I know bullshit when I see it, and this was not bullshit, Dr McLeod said, adding the Buddha was gilded with gold and made with impeccable craftsmanship. ... #Minelab #GoFind #metaldetecting https://thewest.com.au//the-curious-mystery-of-a-600-year-
20.01.2022 To commemorate the first home made #StayAtHome ANZAC Day in the history of our country we are asking for local Shark Bay families to share their precious stories and photos with us. We have a very special project planned to remember our fallen heroes and all those who fought for our freedom. Please PM our page with your families wartime photos and stories or email us direct at [email protected] if you would like your families service to be honoured in 2020.
20.01.2022 Western Australia’s fisheries minister has confirmed he is broadly supportive of a plan that includes shark culling. This plan was proposed to protect recreat...ional fishers catch from shark depredation, and could roll out immediately after the WA election (a few weeks away). Campaign to stop this madness is coming within hours. Stay tuned. UPDATE: Campaign now live! LETTER to Fisheries Minister at www.nosharkcull.com.au/wa and PETITION at https://www.change.org/p/minister-peter-tinley-don-t-approv : @tomcannonphotography

15.01.2022 Shark Bay is a sandy place and it is easy for visitors and locals to lose things like rings and keys. Shayne Thomson and Leon Deschamps, through their experience with metal detecting, offer a free service to people who have lost metal items. They want visitors to have a memorable experience in the Bay however the loss of something sentimental or vital can be a damper on that experience. Ted and Beryl were very happy to be re-united with their car keys this morning at Nicholson Point. #Minelab

An industry worth one BILLION dollars globally employing over ten thousand people! Over SEVEN THOUSAND ANTI SHARK CULL SIGNATURES in one week say the minister has got it WRONG!!!!!! ... Recfishwest only asked 857 of the 630 000 recreational fishers in Western Australia’s in their poll to bring back Shark culling in our states World Heritage Marine Parks... a policy any three year olds who understands the food chain can tell you will only make shark bite offs WORSE!! Did they ask you? After the election Fisheries Minister Peter Tinley has the power to start this cull with a single signature.. his, providing a ministerial exemption that will not require public consultation. 10.01.2022 THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Emergency direct action campaign now live! After the resounding failure of the shark cull perpetrated in the name of swimmer safety ba...ck in 2014, it seems WA is on the brink of another horrific decision for our ocean health. We have been informed that Fisheries WA is seriously considering a proposal from a recreational fishing group, to allow wide-ranging, unrestricted shark fishing in certain areas of WA, with the express purpose of reducing the shark population! Whilst this will not be a cull directly perpetrated by Government like the 2014 cull was, the approval of this proposal would in effect be a government-sanction cull, carried out by the commercial fishing sector. When a particular species is targeted, with an express aim to reduce its population, there is no other word for it, other than culling. This is not ok! 09.01.2022 This Saturday the 16th of May the community of Shark Bay will mourn the passing of one of our most precious Elders. Aunty May Poland. FINN Films is honoured t...o have been requested by the Poland family to provide a LIVE STREAM production of her memorial service to be held at 11.30am at the Denham cemetery. The celebration of Aunty Mays incredible life will be streamed LIVE on the Shark Bay News and Views Facebook page (via a FINN Films live stream post) so that all who knew and loved her may be present to send their love and condolences directly to the family no matter where they are. We would ask all those who held Aunty May dear to their hearts to please share this post amongst Shark Bay family and friends who can not attend the service in person due to Corona Virus restrictions. Please share this post via your personal social media pages so that together we may mourn her passing as she celebrated her wonderful life. Bringing us together as one big family. Edited: due to restrictions on funeral numbers & social distancing, we are asking for your patience & understanding during this time. We have been approved for 40 attendees in the cemetery at one time. Mays immediate family will be priority. Please consider the ages and health of some of the family members so we do not put them at further risk to their health. We have asked for the sound to be louder for those of you who will possibly be outside the boundary of the actual cemetery. To split the attendees once the family start coming out you may be able to go to Mays resting place to pay your respects if you wish to.This is the best we have been able to do so please do not be offended if you are not happy with this arrangement Thank You For those of you who are unable to attend the funeral service for May Poland you may like to stand outside your house or along the foreshore to take a moment to remember her: She will be leaving the church at approximately 11.15 Travelling down Brockman St towards her house Turning into Francis Rd to go past Yadgalah & Mini Golf & then around to travel along the foreshore
09.01.2022 A little bit of information for those who have been asking on this Saturdays live feed of Aunty May Polands memorial service.
08.01.2022 Cast in solid bronze using the ancient lost wax method, the Buddha is 15 centimetres in height and weighs 1.1 kilograms. The gold gilt was brushed on as a mixture of powdered gold and mercury then heated to melt the amalgam and create the gilt with the brush strokes still visible. These are just two of questions we have answered so far in our detective work to find out how this amazing relic came to be left on a remote beach in Western Australia. Stay tuned for more....#AussieMetalDetectives #AustralianHistory #Minelab

04.01.2022 A small part of the population dont love sharks, but who doesnt love dolphins?? The Shark Bay Marine Park heatwave event in 2011 that killed 40% of our sea grass meadows has been linked to increased dolphin mortality and reproduction.. This paper is hot off the presses and THE most up to date science available. READ IT. Every blade, every square metre of the sea grass meadow that was once the size of the PERTH metropolitan area.. is now under threat. So is our dolphin bas...ed economy and the 2.5 BILLION dollar recreational fishing economy that sees the Bay as a Mecca for fishing tourism adventures. In 2018 Sir David Attenborough and our FINN Films team bought you Blue Planet 2, Green Seas.. It showed how our Shark Bay SHARKS are the guardians of the meadows. They prevent herbivores from over grazing it and simultaneously ensure one of the worlds largest carbon sinks stays healthy and helps fight the global warming that is going to continue to cause these heatwaves. We are on the brink. Our dolphins are at risk. Our fishing industry is at risk. Our tourism industry is over if we cant change the conversation around sharks in this country to one based around science and facts. The fact is, without the SHARK BAY SHARK SANCTUARY there will be no more Shark Bay.. The time to stand up and be counted as we fight to save our way of life is NOW.
